Elannah, please call the distress or crisis line or go to the ER or go see your GP NOW. I haven't been on this board long but your nonchalant and flippant attitude about wanting to die is very disturbing. You are a very sweet and supportive person, so please seek help. You are having suicidal thoughts and even if you don't have a "work-able" suicide plan right now, you do need help ASAP.
Zelda - I am so sorry that you are suffering so much. Please let your doctor know that you are suffering and thinking that you cannot handle it any longer. I think you do need support and counseling, like other peas have mentioned. Send big hugs and positive vibes that you will feel better soon.

I totally support teachers striking. The inconvenience to the parents is needed to "make" people realize the issues at hand: the low pay, lack of supplies, and the increase in class sizes. I am a strong believer that as a society, it is essential that education is well-funded. I have friends that are teachers, who put in lots of extra hours in the evenings and weekends for preparations for their classes. School is not daycare or a babysitting service. Being a teacher is a hard job, and I think teachers need to paid for their hard work. I think I would be extremely upset if I found out that teachers in my district were working extra part-time jobs to just to survive. That is definitely not healthy for them but also not good for the students either.

I agree with above OP...as a society we ALL let them down. I don't know why CPS was notified earlier especially when one of the children went to the neighbors to report abuse and requested to stay with them...why did the neighbors tell the parents and returned the child to them instead of automatically calling the police? I think that if a child showed up at my door and expressed safety concerns at home that I would involve the police immediately.
I have read about multiple cases with children being returned to their biological parents, who ended up abusing them or killing them. I definitely don't think an aunt, who is willing to let the kids see their mother, who was deemed to be an unfit parent, should be adopting them. If the aunt could not follow the CPS "rules" then how do we know that she has "good judgment" to be a good parent to the kids. I understand the importance of keeping families together but I find that in some cases, it is not in the best interest of the children.

That's great that you can do that. I live 5-6 hours away from the border so it is not as easy to go to the US to shop. I agree that ordering from SSS is the best price-wise for Canadians because shipping is cheaper than most other online stores and no customs fees. I have 3 local LSS but the stamp sets are pricey.

I was looking at the Gina K stamp sets that has coordinating foil sets and they were over $30 Canadian for just the stamp set...it is a 5' X 5.5' set. It seems that Altenew stamp sets (4 x 6) cost ~$20-25 CAD while their bigger stamp sets 6 x 8 are over $35 Canadian. Other brands like Concord and 9th, the Ton, Gina K., and Technique Tuesday are pretty pricey too. I know our Canadian dollar is not good compared to the American dollar but it is still ridiculous how much stamps are costing now. I want these small companies to stay in business and I love their stamps and want to support them, but it is hard to do when their prices are so high. Does anybody else feels this way?

I am sorry but I'm a bit "cautious" about genetic testing to aid in determining best medications for any health issue. I have a research background and currently, a registered nurse, who work in mental health. I've always been interested in the biological aspects of mental illness. To the best of my knowledge, there is no strong research findings that support a simple DNA testing would provide you with essential information to chose the "right" medications for your mental illness. Mental illnesses and many diseases are "caused" by multiple interactions between many different genes. Also your metabolism and how your body responds to medications involve multifactorial genes and proteins. Unfortunately, our body is very complex. An example is that someone can develop an allergic response to Tylenol later in life. My sister took Tylenol for pain throughout her teens and twenties, but five years ago she had a severe reaction to it and can no longer take Tylenol. Also, especially, with psychotropic medications, your body can build a tolerance to them or the medication no longer is effective at all. I wish getting the right medication and dosage would be as easy as a simple DNA test.
But, I am still interested in the idea of it. Would you be kind to add a link to the information about the test? Thank-you so much.

I am so sorry for your loss. Google organizations that would like donations of cards in your state. I donate cards to local animal shelters who sells them and a children's organization who collects cards for a few pediatric units in Canada.
Thank-you for your kind gesture.

I'm in Canada so it takes about 7-10 days after I pay the invoice before I will get it...so mostly by the end of the month. Also with their monthly kits, there is no shipping notice so you have no idea when they are shipped.

I'm concerned now because I subscribe and I don't get the invoice until after the 17th because you have until then to let them know if you want it or not. You already got your invoice for it? Also when they send my PayPal invoice, I am pretty sure you have 24 hours to pay it. Are you a monthly subscriber? Or just buying this month's kit? Thanks.

The therapists would have to re-do the assessments because he may be different now compared to November. They will need his current status to be able come up with appropriate goals and care plans. I think if you have any concerns that you wanted to discuss in the meeting, you could discuss it with his primary doctor or talk to the nurse. The reason for the 20 mins meeting is because it is really hard to get the whole team to be able to get together and they may be going all the patients on the unit. The meeting could be a weekly one. We have weekly "conferences" with everybody on the team for every patient. Honestly, it is literally very short and it is basically, immediate concerns and care goals. I am so sorry that you are having difficulties with the staff on Unit 58. I would give them time and yourself to adjust to the unit. Also remember each unit is different. If you don't feel as though Spencer is getting the best care, definitely let the staff know your concerns immediately.
The reason why the doctor asked Spencer instead of you about his goals are because it is to assess his cognitive functioning, and his ability to express himself. I don't think it was to ignore you. I have asked patients a lot of times why they are in the hospital, even if I know what brought them there, because I want to know how alert, and oriented they are and whether they have insight.
I am going to PM you. I still owe you a very late birthday dinner and I brought something back from Hawaii for you. Sorry for not getting in touch earlier...life is crazy at the moment. Big hugs to you and Spencer!!!

PLEASE call the suicide hotline or distress line or 911. Please tell your psychiatrist because you need help and maybe you need to have a medication change. But please tell someone that you are having these suicidal thoughts. If you have no one please please PM me. I would be happy to talk to you and have no problem paying for the phone call.
What you are going through is extremely tough. I have depression and there are days that are really tough, but you are dealing with depression and anxiety with other major stressors. It is okay that you don't feel "good" and that's why it is so important to let someone know how bad it is for you. Please take care and once again, feel free to PM me. Also please feel free to vent us...we are here for you.

I need to start making Christmas cards because I always leave it to the last minute and this year, I didn't get to participate in the Caring Heart Drive. So thanks for Christmas thread. Great idea. Would love to see pictures of cards people made.
Also, this past season, I bought tons of Christmas stamps, dies, and papers...some I haven't even open, then I bought more when all the Christmas stuff goes on sale. I seem to enjoy buying the stuff to make the cardsmore than getting around to making them. Need to change this.

That's great! I have a couple orders from. Them that I got shipping notice on Feb.15th, and as of yesterday, they are still waiting to be picked up by USPS at their warehouse. I wish their shipping was getting better because they have cheapest shipping to Canada. It does not help that Canada Post is taking forever to deliver packages once it gets here.

Thanks to everybody so much for the support, wonderful advice, and kind words. I recently started acupuncture, and it does relax me. I definitely need to find a psychologist because I need therapy. The psychologist at my fertility clinic and I don't "click" . There is only one fertility Clinic in my city. I need to find a psychologist who has experience with counseling people with infertility issues. Infertility is hard to explain unless you are going through it, and even then, it is still hard to understand. I want to find some peace of any kind right now. It does not help that my birthday was less than a week ago. Just reminds me that this dream may not come true. What is more frustrating is that I never thought I would be so tortured by not having biological children. When I was younger, I thought that I would adopt because there are so many unwanted wonderful kids who need a home. Now, I am obsessed and upset with using donor eggs. When did I become so obsess with genetics??? I need to figure out to deal with all of it or come to some kind of peace with it. At our first IVF information session, the psychologist told us to not let IVF control our lives and to make other life goals and plans. But it is so hard to do this. I have to figure out other goals. But for now, life sucks. Thanks for everything. The Peas are wonderful.
