I live in the country, so sometimes I am going by 6 or 6:30 am, but the grass needs to be dry. Humidity usually keeps me off it until later.
My new mower doesn't have headlights, so I have to quit when it gets dark, but I mow late sometimes too. Just depends on the conditions.
Activity starts in my neighborhood when the sun comes up. Feed tractors are usually rolling by 5:30 am. Trucks that go to hog farms run all hours of the day.

Your property taxes are $59,000 a year?! Where do you live? Not quite that much, but getting into that range. Farm in Western Iowa where farm ground sells from $10K to 20K an acre and property tax rates are skyrocketing. So it's always fun to get the 'farmers get welfare from the government' thrown in our faces all the time. Property and income taxes are significant.

Property taxes are only $59k per year. My property taxes are around that. I don't have a fancy house though, with plunge pools and casita's. I don't even have a garbage disposal.

My daughter picked cream cheese frosting and red velvet for her wedding cake. In mid June. In the South. At an outdoor wedding. 90 degrees+. I read her the riot act about feeding each other and keeping the red dye off of her dress. I saw a TikTok where someone used Glad Press N Seal down the front of their dress to keep it clean while eating! It was kind of a joke, but it make me go "ohh yes.. " I am a messy eater!

I never liked red velvet cake mostly because I’m not a big fan of cream cheese frosting. That's because cream cheese frosting should never be on a Red Velvet cake... I don't know when that abomination got started, but it is wrong, wrong, wrong! * The traditional frosting for Red Velvet is an Ermine frosting, which is a cooked flour and milk mixture, that is then whipped in with butter and granulated (not powdered) sugar, to make a fluffy frosting. It is not cloyingly sweet and pairs perfectly with the Red Velvet cake that has just a small amount of tang from the vinegar/baking soda reaction with the buttermilk. *I say this somewhat tongue in cheek. If you love cream cheese frosting on Red Velvet - go for it. Just remember, it's wrong though. I do love a good cream cheese frosting, especially on carrot cake or pumpkin roll. It's really not. There is a scant amount of cocoa powder. It is not a chocolate cake though. It is not supposed to resemble a chocolate cake. The cocoa powder is only there for chemistry. My recipe has 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. The chocolate is a minor player in this cake. As far as the red color, it doesn't bother me. I don't eat this every day, I might make it once or twice a year and eat only a small amount of it. My recipe, and many others call for 2 ounces of red color - which is two bottles. My frugal mother always used one bottle, and filled that empty with water and added that. It was sufficiently red! She didn't do it for health reasons, she was just not one to spend a lot of $$.

I just discovered a new one - Little America. I think it is a series on Apple TV too, I just haven't watched any TV for a while, but the podcast is excellent. Each episode is about an immigrant to the US. So entertaining and interesting. It's well done!
I appreciate all the recommendations I get here!

Neat!
I have a big crop of Baltimore Orioles this year. I sit and watch them at the feeder. The hummingbirds are here in full force too, along with goldfinches. I have seen scarlet tanagers, indigo bunting, lots of various woodpeckers. Killdeer are always interesting. They feign injury to keep/draw you away from the ground nest.
I miss the Meadowlarks. I haven't had any for a couple years now. Their song was always my favorite and reminded me of my childhood.
The pooping invasive doves could go. And the swallows have to find a different place than my porch to nest! There are plenty of places here on my farm - so I put rocks or other barriers up in the corners and ledges on my porch to keep them away. Too messy!

Lord. That would be the end of it for me. My son took a very large bull snake from my brothers house. DS was maybe 13, and my brother knew he had no fear of snakes. We did use a hog catcher to get the snake, because they do bite! It was as long as my son was tall at that age, and phew ... it gave off a stink when they caught it! Catch and release, because my DH loves those bull snakes! Rodent catchers. Just not at my house please.

I've had mine for more than 30 years. It's a Target Mastercard. It used to be Visa. It has been compromised once. They notified me almost immediately after it had happened. A few years ago, when Target was compromised (my card was never) they sent me a new card, then switched it to Mastercard shortly after that.
My husband has his through a bank, and he has had his for probably 40 years - nothing.

I only do pick up. No frustration about self checkout. Someone shops for me and loads my car for me. I don’t even have to get out of my pajamas. That’s more service than ever before and it doesn’t cost extra. I do love pickup! It makes getting a lot of groceries/supplies a breeze, plus it eliminates the impulse buys! The only thing I don't like is for things that need to be fresh. Milk, breads, fruit. I just don't feel they are giving me the freshest or farthest from expiration date on those, so I go in for that stuff. I did get all my potting soil and heavy planting supplies by pickup. I about cried it was SO easy! LOL I just dropped my tailgate and they loaded all that in my rig! I need a few bags of mulch now, and I am definitely doing that via pickup! I can hardly wrestle those big bags into my cart anymore.

At a K-5 school it’s quite possible a kid brought it from home not understanding the ramifications of such an action. I agree with the soft lockdown and search to try and determine how it got there. I would follow that with an education component for the students and communication home to parents. This sounds reasonable. Something needs to be done, for sure. We keep our firearms locked up, we don't carry or carry in our vehicles, as a rule, but it is not unusual to find some .22 rounds laying around. I am even bad about putting a few in my pocket and then transfer to the 'junk' jar in my laundry. No little ones around here now though. But my kids were taught gun safety from a very early age. Not OK to have any ammo in anything that went to school, ever.

Ugh! I hate that "One, two.... I'm not going to tell you again..... One, two.... this is your final warning..... one, two..... don't make me come over there..... one, two...." The kids know there's never going to be a three coming there way! Ugh - this! I had to take my kids with me, if I went anywhere during the day. You have to know your kids' limits, but you can make them behave! I had the "I'll warn you once, and only once, and then we leave". If they were well behaved, I did often let them have a treat. The treat was discussed before we left home. Sometimes it was a Matchbox car or a small candy. Often it was a Happy Meal on the way home (This was once a month, maybe). Only one time did we leave. I didn't yell, or count down, I just said that I had warned them once and that we were leaving immediately. Oh that was a quiet ride home. No further punishments, just an unhappy mother and no treat. I never had to do it again. At the grocery store, if they were old enough, I would have them get the can or box off the shelf and put it in the cart. Or we could discuss what meals they wanted, and what ingredients we would need. Or we did an 'eye spy" game to keep them focused. I didn't ignore them. I talked to them and engaged them. Not every trip was sunshine and roses, but you can teach your kids to behave.

I am so miffed that every grocery store in my area (there are six) has changed to all self checkout lines, and one customer service counter. I do like doing my own self checkout, but when faced with a large cart full, and some of that produce that has to be weighed, UGH! But HyVee still has 3 or 4 full service lanes, and it is pretty easy to get in line for them. I used that the other day, and gave a big sigh and told the checker and bagger how nice this was! I said "I appreciate this, you just made my day easier!". I think all they hear is b!tiching - because they were just delighted I told them that! I love Meijer's shop and scan. Is that like Walmart's Scan & Go? Gosh I love that. I put my grocery totes in the cart and scan the items as I shop. Then I just hold my phone up to the self checkout screen and BOOM - DONE. Everything is scanned/bagged and I do not have to do it at the tiny self check. It is worth the cost of the app. The reason I hate the self checkout is when I buy groceries and 4 cartons of Diet Coke, there is no way humanly possible to put my sacked groceries and the cartons of pop on the itty bitty bagging area My Walmart is this way. A big 'den' of the self checkouts, but they are tiny little bagging spots. At my Walmart, I can put stuff back in my cart after scanning though. But I have started exclusivly using Scan & Go on the app, so my items are scanned and bagged before I get to self checkout. I somewhat live in fear that I will miss an item, using Scan & Go. So I watch carefully. I put the item in the kid seat part of the cart to scan, then put in my tote. I have trained myself to do this, so I don't randomly toss something in without scanning. The only issue I have is double scanning stuff. My phone can pickup a bar code of something in my cart I already scanned. So I scroll through the screen before I head to self checkout to double check things. Then I make eye contact with the Self checkout workers and ask if I am good to go? ... they usually don't even hardly reply. LOL

There was a house a few miles north of me. It seemed like a doomed house. I don't think it was all that old, in farmhouse terms. Maybe built in the 70's or early 80's. Original owners died, and it was rented out. There was always snakes in it. At one point it was gutted and re-drywalled because of mold.
Someone new (and young) bought the farm and farmstead. They battled the snakes. They finally just burnt the house down. They planned a new home so dug up the old basement and tiling. The tile lines were FULL of snakes. Like nothing anyone had seen. They completely removed the drainage tile for that whole farmstead area and put new in, and did it differently so they would not have snakes. That is how the snakes were coming into the house. Good lord!
Anyway, they have a beautiful new home and no creepie crawlers.

Although I live 'in the country' - my house is along a busy blacktop. My ditches always have trash. Nasty stuff sometimes. For a while I was getting empty aerosol air cans, right by my mailbox. So someone was obviously huffing, and along the same route, since I got their empties. I also find water/pop/gatorade bottles with piss in them. Lots of cans and bottles. I mow several farm sites, so I just drive my mower from site to site. The country road ditches have so much trash in them. Cans and bottles are worth a nickel, but water bottles are not. I think they should be. But less people are willing to stop and pick up cans for the .05. As the older generation dies off, the youngers are not bothered to collect them. I use one of those grabber devices to pick up. I am not touching that stuff. I saw someone toss a big bag of fast food trash. I picked it up and followed them to their house. I gave it to them and told them I think they accidentally dropped it. They live in this neighborhood! Geesh! There used to be a bunch of old retired farmers that would drive around and pick up cans, cash them in, and go have coffee with the earnings. These guys were each millionaires, when you figured out their farm ground owner-ship. Probably at least once or twice over if not more. Drove an old van and picked up cans. LOL That does NOT happen any more. They picked up trash too.

Our pta president said “what a great idea, you can be in charge of that!” The suggester was stunned and appalled, all “I’m too busy for that.” Yup, us, too. I used that approach a lot, when someone complained. It was always a person who never volunteered because they were "too busy". People do have valid suggestions, but if they are not willing to at least help a little - go away. LOL

Oh how I remember those days! People who step up and actually do things are very under appreciated! So many are just "too busy" to serve on anything. Guess what, everyone is equally as busy. But they are the first to complain about things.
I tried to serve and help when my kids were young. The frustration is real!
I think having a 2 year limit is a wonderful thing. Sometimes you get locked into something, with no way out unless you flat out quit entirely!

I really hope this is changing. My daughter and her husband are both high earners, and have about equal work hours. Her husband is just amazing. They split the household chores pretty much down the middle. And they do it without one asking the other to do it. It just gets done. He is amazing with their kids and is a very hands on parent. He tends to do more of the outside lawn and pool maintenance, but she does some too. She enjoys cooking more, but they both prepare and clean up. But laundry, shopping, doctor visits - all of it is handled by both of them equally. I love it! I have a more traditional role. I do all the house work, cooking, laundry. I also do all the outside lawn and house maintenance. I dearly LOVE yard work. I also do all the bookwork/banking. I do not work outside of our home/farm/ranch. If I asked DH to do something, he would not have any issues doing it. He works 7 days a week, long late days most of them, on our farm/ranch. I don't ask him to do some task after he has been out working a 14 hour day. But he appreciates what I do. Very much so. He appreciated my role as a mother, and when someone compliments our kids, he never hesitates to give credit to me. That makes me feel very proud. During busy seasons, I work more on the farm now, than when our kids were at home. During harvest I am out there all day too. I prepare and pack all our meals for the day, and he makes sure my truck is field ready for me. If he is slammed with the livestock and hasn't had time to prepare my truck, I check the fluids and air and also do the same for his combine so we can get rolling faster. But the one thing that has made this work is the fact that he KNOWS what value I am. I do not feel like I am set to drudgery without any compensation for it. I am an equal partner in our operation. He gets my input on management and purchases. It really bothered me when we were first married, that on our taxes my occupation was 'homemaker'. That doesn't bother me now, but I am listed now as "Farmer"

Wow - that is a neat home! I have a 4 car garage, but I have crammed 6 cars in it once, when a hail storm was approaching! No turntable! Had my cars, my kids' cars and a girlfiend's car shoe-horned in there! Then it didn't hail! LOL Our shop has my grain truck, 2 BIG tractors (one with a planter hooked on) 2 combines, a grain cart, a silage chopper, a trac-hoe, and a couple vintage tractors in it currently, and it's still has a lot of room! Neither of these buildings looks anything like the one in the link though LOL

It wouldn't work here. Too rural. The buses make one run on each route, so it would be impossible to run multiple times on each route. 8:20 start time for all grades. It has always worked.
I know there is something to the fact of kids learning better if they start later, but I still think they have to figure out how to manage their time and get their butts out of bed and going in the morning. I had one that was an absolute bear to blast out of bed in the morning. It was awful. A lot of it was not going to bed/sleep at a decent time. I know that is a hormonal thing. And I allowed some slack for it, but in the end - when it was time to get up - get the heck up. Turn off the devices and go to sleep at night.
My kids all participated in sports or academic activities that had them at the high school early, often by 6 am for some seasons. They had afterschool sports/activities that kept them at the school til 5:00 and on event days, it was sometimes 10 pm (or later) before they were home. I tried to keep them fed well, and didn't expect a lot of home chores from them during those times. All I asked was for them to have their dirty laundry in baskets. I returned clean baskets - they could leave it in the clean basket or put it away, I didn't care.

This sounds like a difficult situation to deal with. It also sounds like your DH and his sister get along? That is so helpful!
I started a small notebook with all my passwords and other info that might be needed if something happens to me or DH. I have even assigned someone to deal with my Facebook page!
One of our kids is a partner with us in our farm/ranch operation now, so we have them added to the bank accounts that are used in the operation. This way, if something happens to one or both of us, or if we are incapacitated, they can seamlessly continue on. Our other kids are aware of that, so there will be no issues with it, if it is needed.
I have also clearly stated how I want things handled with me, if I passed away. I can not get DH to commit to anything. I want to be cremated, with no service. Maybe a small wake, if the kids want it, but nothing else. DH just won't even answer when I ask what he wants.

I frequently took the train to Philly and NYC when I lived in DC. if you can afford it and it's offered, take the train with limited stops like the Acela on the east coast. It makes for a much more enjoyable ride if you're not stopping at every little stop. I love that ride! We almost took the Acela once, but the time difference was minimal and the cost difference wasn't. LOL Still wish we had done that though. We haven't been back east in a long time! The east coast train travel is SO different that going west! HA!

When I think of train travel in the US now I kind of worry like the Sex and the City scene where they have an image of luxury train travel in their head and the reality is…less. I think sometimes people have an image of the Orient Express with white tablecloths and crystal, plush seats, etc. The AMTRAK reality is a bit different! LOL I have mostly ridden the Superliners Southwest Chief and California Zephyr. The coach seats are very roomy, compared to a plane or bus. If the train is not full, it can be really awesome if the seat next to you is unoccupied. But even if it is, it's not crowded together like a plane. The food is .... sometimes great, sometimes not. Before Covid, a coach passenger could make a reservation in the dining car for a meal. During Covid, and until very recently, no coach pax could enter the dining car. There is a 'cafe car' that has snacks and microwave food like hot dogs. But recently they again started allowing coach pax to make reservations in the dining car. The Dining Car food has somewhat declined in quality. But it is still not too bad, and sometimes quite good. If you are Sleeper class - your meals are included in the ticket price, and you can get an alcoholic beverage with your meal. I aways say Hope for the best, expect the worst, and you won't be disappointed. LOL

I've done AMTRAK trips many times! East coast trains are WAY different than the ones that go west. On the east coast, AMTRAK is generally very 'on time' and efficient. On the rest of the system, you are are the mercy of freight train traffic. They own the track, and AMTRAK goes when they say it can go, so you can run in to a lot of lateness. Crews can only work so many hours, so if a crew 'times out', then the train waits again for a new crew to be delivered to it. Do you know which train your riding? I think you have 2 or 3 options on that route. Lincoln Service, Texas Eagle, and maybe Missouri Runner? I hope it is a fun experience!! We leave at 8 am and we’re bringing snacks and drinks. Make sure your group knows they can only bring/consume their own alcohol in private rooms (sleepers). You can't bring your own alcohol on and consume it in any coach seats or in the cafe car. Only in your own private sleeper room (I don't think the Heartland Flyer has sleepers on the consist). Snacks and non-alcohol drinks are fine though! Sounds like such a fun time!!

We’ve used Tencel sheets for years, but I prefer the ones from West Elm. I love Tencel sheets! I get mine from Amazon, because...$$$ lol DH even commented on them, about how much he liked them. I don't know if they are cooling, but I feel like they are very breathable and don't bunch up. They have a nice soft silky feel. I have two sets, and they are from the same brand/Amazon seller, but one color seems nicer than the other. Go figure.

I actually had to have mine cut off in 2017 - after never taking them off for 25 years! I could NOT get them off.
I had them resized. I never had them soldered together. I seldom wear my engagement ring, which is a single emerald cut diamond, held on by 4 prongs. I do so much rough work now, that I am afraid I will knock it out. So it stays in a special ring holder. I put it on for special occasions.
I seldom take off my wedding band though.
DH never wears his. Too dangerous. He tried to put it on for our daughters wedding, and couldn't even get it on his pinky! He is basically the same size he was in college, but years of hard work have make his hand/fingers so much bigger!

I had fox in my yard last summer. If I sat really quietly on my deck, they would come up in the yard and play - about 20 yards from me. So fun!! Also, I have no more bunnies eating my plants. LOL
