I would think that a business/finance degree would be a good background for a real estate agent. If she becomes successful at selling, she may want to become a broker at some point in the future.
For the older dd, I agree with you. Why have the stress/expense of a degree just to have it. If she is making a good living, can support herself, and is happy with what she is doing, she shouldn't have to have a college degree. If, in the future, she wants to do something else, she can go to school then.

I agree with the others. I really like the idea of helping her choose a photographer and pay for it as their wedding gift if they were hoping to get free pictures.

Glad that nothing terrible happened and it was an easy fix. BTW, what is a "flyover"?

So what would you have the officer do? He clearly states that the boy was swinging at him. I suspect it was done as a matter of keeping everyone safe. If he didn't restrain the boy and the boy hurt anyone, he would have been in trouble for not taking action. (I'm not trying to start an argument here, I'm just wondering what you think is a viable alternative).

Hoping you are just badly banged up (how weird is that to wish for???). I, too, think that if the components were damaged you wouldn't be able to walk.

I would stay with unlimited data for a cheaper price. It is no big deal to me if I am roaming or not.

Thanks! I really need a binder system but maybe should go look at planners in person at some stores. That's what I have. I bought larger discs ($4) and a couple of pocket pages ($4) and tabbed dividers. I am returning the tabbed dividers and making my own with cardstock that I will have laminated (trying to use up all this crazy paper in my scrapbook room).

Pinterest has a lot of planner ideas. I created my own this year with a disc bound planner as a starter. I created my own pages that suited my needs and printed them on cheap cardstock from Michaels. So far it is working very well, and the most expensive thing I purchased was the hole punch. Thanks! Do you use your home printer? I was hoping to avoid printing/cutting/punching my own, especially since I really don't need customized lists or boxes. I really just want plain paper (with light patterning like ruled lines, grids, and some blank) so I can write. I may have to try printing. I do print them at home. I did a year long calendar first (2 months/page) and every time I sat down at the computer to visit this site, I printed another 10 days worth. It wasn't as time consuming as I thought. I have heard, though, that you can have it printed at an office supply store rather inexpensively if you don't want to print them at home.

I paint and change bedding/curtains every couple of years. We have been in our house for 11 years this month and are on our 4th or 5th paint color in the master bedroom. We did a major renovation in there this year (went from a flat ceiling to a tray, replaced the carpet with hardwood flooring, built a huge headboard for our bed, painted our 20 year old dressers, and got new night stands).
My oldest DS is going away for 10 days and I am doing a surprise makeover in his room while he is gone. I'll be painting, rearranging furniture, new bedding and window treatments, and adding some new furniture pieces (a desk and maybe a futon). (He is leaving tonight and while I don't want him to go, I need him to hurry up and go because I have a lot of work to do!) I will probably do his brother's room next.

I walked my first 5k a couple of years ago. It was depressing. I was passed by an old man in a wheelchair (and it wasn't even a motorized one)! I did it in under an hour - I think it was 56 minutes or so. My goal is to do at least one 5k a year and lose a minute off my time in each one. My last one I was at 54 minutes. That one, my then 12 year old son who had bronchitis at the time, ran it in 26 minutes. But, it was still a success for me because I did manage to shave off another minute from the year before!

If you don't have an emergency fund how on earth do you think you can retire? Because we have money invested in 401(k) and IRA, as well as in mutual funds. We are planning on using that when we retire. I don't consider those accounts to be part of our emergency fund because the cash is not easily accessible.

I'm confused. If he didn't pay, how did the art get wrapped and what about the receipt he showed him? (I'm not expecting you to have the answers, just "thinking out loud.") I highly doubt the lady doesn't know the art guy very well. She is probably hoping that her crying will make them let her go. Did you stay until the police showed up?

How big of an emergency fund is comfortable for you? Not in an "it's easy to save this much" way, but more in a "Whew! Thankfully I have enough money to cover that" way.
I know Dave Ramsey says to have $1,000 in an emergency fund, but it just doesn't feel like it would be enough. A couple of years ago I had to replace my washer and it was over $1000. And as we have seen, when it rains, it pours with emergencies. I want to have enough in there so that replacing a washing machine doesn't empty out the account. Does anyone have a bigger fund while still carrying debt?

I was with my sister in Sam's Club yesterday. She was buying wine and they asked ME for id. The cashier said she wanted to make sure my sister wasn't buying it for a minor. My sister was livid that I was carded and she wasn't. I will be 45 next month.

This is local to me. I read the court transcripts transcripts. This judge, IMO, was way out of line. She compared the kids to Charles Manson and his cult, told them they didn't use their brains, and threatened to leave them in Children's Village -- which, BTW, is for criminals Children's Village -- until their 18th birthday. Mom is brainwashing them? Then send them to court-mandated therapy or give dad custody with supervised visitation to mom. Don't threaten them and throw them in jail. ETA: I don't think Dad moved, I read he was there on business for a couple of weeks.

Where I live, our taxable value is capped at a certain amount each year, but our SEV (state equalized value) can change as necessary. We pay property taxes based on our taxable value. So for instance, looking at our current tax bill, our taxable value is $40k less than what they say our SEV is, so we are paying taxes based on the lower taxable value. If there is a transfer of ownership, the taxable value will increase to the SEV or market value, whichever is higher and that new owner will have a higher taxable value, therefore higher property taxes than what we currently pay. The longer we stay in this house, the less property tax we will pay compared to someone who purchased a similar house at market value after us. (I hope I explained that well.)

Get a booster for inside your home. I have one and it works great! It will boost your signal throughout your whole house. You'll wonder how you lived without it. How do you know which booster to get? I am looking at them online and they range from $25 to $200. They all have similar ratings.
