For me the start of anti-racism looks a lot like ownership. I don’t think any real progress can happen until we look at racism in a really practical no nonsense way. Facts, figures, solutions kind of plan. More often than not I think white people are more concerned with how they are viewed instead of actually tackling racism. Racism kills black people. Black babies. Black women. Black men. So when I hear someone say “well not all of us” it’s disheartening AF because even a couple racist still means dead Black people right? And again that response makes it more about how people will view AR and it’s white residents instead of the focus being on how tragic it is Black people still deal with this type of shit in neighborhoods they pay property taxes in. How many dead Black people is too many? How much suffering is enough? Anti-racism doesn’t look like this 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/117459/olan

calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/dec/07On December 7, 1874, white mobs attacked and killed dozens of Black citizens of Vicksburg, Mississippi, who had organized a political meeting in support of a duly elected Black sheriff, who had been improperly removed from office. During the Reconstruction era that followed Emancipation and the Civil War, Black Mississippians made progress toward political equality. Despite the passage of Black codes designed to oppress and disenfranchise Black people in the South, under the protection of federal troops in place to enforce the newly established civil rights of Black people, many Black men voted and served in political office on federal, state, and local levels. In the 1870s, Peter Crosby, a formerly enslaved Black man, was elected sheriff in Vicksburg, Mississippi – but shortly after taking office, Sheriff Crosby was indicted on false criminal charges and a violent white mob removed him from his position. On December 7, 1874, Black citizens in Vicksburg organized an effort to try to help Mr. Crosby regain his office. In response, white mobs attacked and killed dozens of Black citizens in an act of racial terrorism, which would later become known as the “Vicksburg Massacre.” Following this brutal attack, federal troops were sent to Vicksburg and Mr. Crosby was appointed as sheriff again. However, in early 1875, a white man named J.P. Gilmer was hired to serve as Sheriff Crosby's deputy. After Sheriff Crosby tried to have Mr. Gilmer removed from office, Mr. Gilmer shot Sheriff Crosby in the head on June 7, 1875. Mr. Gilmer was arrested for the attempted assassination but never brought to trial. Mr. Crosby survived the shooting but never made a full recovery, and had to serve the remainder of his term through a representative white citizen. The violence and intimidation tactics utilized by white Mississippians intent on restoring white supremacy soon enabled forces antagonistic to the aims of Reconstruction and racial equality to regain power in Mississippi.

If you are a knitter/crocheter this is the most amazing yarn company: Neighborhood Fiber Company. They are based in Baltimore in a converted fire station. Awesome place with a mission to give back to the community. And the yarn is super-lovely! I love them. My favorite Carpenter created their signage. He is amazing. Another great way to support Black people is using Black owned service providers I.e . Lawn company, contractors, HVAC repair, carpenters etc. I’d be more than happy to help a pea make the switch to black service providers. Just lmk! Thank you to everyone who shopped with black owned businesses on Black Friday. I can’t wait to hear what you think of your purchases.

A question:
What does anti-racist progress look like to you? What did it look like 10 years ago?
This isn’t a question so we can debate racial issues. In fact I won’t quote or respond to anyone who answers. I’m genuinely curious what anti-racist progress looks like to you.
What year did you first hear the term anti-racist?

Sadly, this is just north of where I live. Like cecilia said, we are not all like that is AR. I love that the neighbors rallied around this family. May I respectfully ask: How much of Arkansas’ racial history are you familiar with? Do you think that level of racial violence just dissipated over time? The perpetrators of that violence what happened to them and their families? If you had to guess what percentage of Arkansas residents would self identify as racist? Rough numbers/guesses are expected. What percentage of residents won’t self identify but engage in harmful racist thoughts or behavior? Number of Black residents whose lives have been touched by racial violence? The percentage of black residents who have had: A loved one lynched or killed by police. Been called nigger. Made to feel unwelcome (burned crosses or HOA harassment). Denied employment opportunities. Treated poorly in a classroom. Received inadequate medical care. etc. What percentage of residents would have to identify as anti-racist in order for Black residents to report zero instances of racial violence or discrimination? What would that look like?

So I know I said I was moving on to celebratory group texting but for anyone’s co-worker doubting Kamala Harris blackness... AN AUNTIE MARY TRACK!!!!!!!!!! And not just any ole Mary J Blige song either! This was the theme song for my 33rd year so I know it front to back though these are my fav parts: Let em get mad they gone hate anyway don’t you get that doesn’t matter if you go along with their plan they’ll never be happy cause they’re not happy with themselves👀👀👀👀👀 Celebrating the things everyone told me would never happen but God put his hands on me And ain’t a man alive could ever take it from me.... Whew that made my month!!!! youtu.be/ZDti4tBEeYcFYI the only thing that could make that moment blacker would be if she did the iconic Auntie Mary dance to the podium. 😂🤣😂🤣

Ok, I'm out because this link and Hopemax link looks like the same article to me, so obviously, I've had way tooo much wine to be of any value here. It is the same article. I just provided the link without all the text that somehow becomes me “attacking” another pea. I haven’t had any wine but am going to switch over to group texting to discuss the election. Again everyone have a great rest of the weekend

Certainly true? What poll suggests white suburban moms were responsible for a flip in Milwaukee? Georgia wasn’t the only state that had yuge numbers of Black voters! Milwaukee has the largest number of Black voters in Wisconsin and they came out vote otherwise a Biden victory wouldn’t have happened. Black women voted as a monolith so it’s okay to treat us like it because the numbers don’t suggest anything else 🤷🏾♀️As far as “railing” on white women and alienating allies....umm are they allies or QAnon members you seem to be labeling them both how? At any rate I’ll leave it to {other} white women to gather their friends and family especially if they have dangerous views. “Let’s start with Milwaukee and surrounding Milwaukee County, home to the biggest share of Black voters in Wisconsin. In 2012, Barack Obama won roughly 328,000 votes in Milwaukee County. Four years later, Clinton won fewer than 289,000 votes in Milwaukee County. The challenge for Biden wasn’t necessarily to get all the way back to that Obama 2012 number; rather, at the bare minimum, it was to split the difference between these figures. He did that and then some: With all the votes counted, more than 317,000 people in Milwaukee County voted for the Democratic ticket, and Biden needed every single one of them. It was a similar story in Detroit, a city that’s more than 80 percent Black, and surrounding Wayne County. In 2012, Obama won nearly 596,000 votes in Wayne County. Four years later, Clinton won fewer than 520,000. Once again, the question in Michigan—as in Wisconsin—was whether Biden could push that figure somewhere close to that Obama 2012 number, even if it was unrealistic to get all the way there. In fact, Biden got pretty close. With 100 percent of Wayne County’s ballots tabulated, Biden won 587,000 votes there, far surpassing Clinton’s performance from 2016.” www.politico.com/amp/news/magazine/2020/11/04/three-reasons-biden-flipped-the-midwest-434114I don’t think it’s at all factual to say Black people didn’t come out and vote in Wisconsin. Not sure where you got that information from but even if there is an iota of truth in that blame COVID (hitting Black people much harder than any other group) and voter suppression. This is what I mean by attacking allies. I didn't say that Black people didn't come out and vote in Wisconsin. I didn't say that Georgia was the only place that Black people made a difference. www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/11/07/election-results-milwaukee-turnout-flat-despite-wisconsin-surge/6188097002/"But Milwaukee turnout was virtually the same — and slightly worse in majority-Black wards — as in 2016, when turnout was considered poor and hurt then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton." Later in the article, it also said that the Latino vote within the city of Milwaukee was also weaker for Biden over Clinton in 2016. My DH just arrived with our takeout, so I'll have to come back to see what I can find out about the demographics of the Milwaukee suburbs. I did find this little bit here: www.milwaukeemag.com/comparing-how-the-city-and-every-milwaukee-county-suburb-voted-in-2016-and-2020/But two Milwaukee County suburbs flipped from red to blue; Greenfield and Greendale both voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016 but favored Biden over Trump this election. They joined the majority of Democrat-leaning Milwaukee suburbs; only Franklin, Hales Corners and Oak Creek voted for Trump in 2020. You did say black people didn’t come out and vote. It’s the the quoted text. I’m sorry you felt like my response was an attack. I provided a news article and shared my thoughts. Do you think attack is a little bit of an exaggeration? Actually no worries. Today’s a good day. No need for the back and forth. You have a good rest of the weekend

Quite frankly, white women continue to disappoint me (said as a white woman). There is a NY Times article about a study that is investigating the correlation between QAnon and polling errors. I saw it, because Mike Duncan who has made a name for himself via his extremely popular Revolutions podcast series, said that he would not be surprised if this was the story of this election, especially with white woman. I saw that particular tweet because someone else had made association between what is happening now and the Russian Revolution and the Marxist revolutionaries which represented the rural worker and Lenin and the Bolsheviks who represented the urban worker and recommended the Revolutions podcast. While I have not listened to them, DH has been listening to them since his original Roman Empire series. We think our circumstances are unique, but the world has done all of this before, and when people say, those that fail to heed history... we are still neck deep in this. Biden winning is only the first battle, and with those 70 million other voters out there, what happens next may be more predictive of this country's future than what happened on Tuesday. Someone else doing some early research into the demographics and while the story has been the black voter, and while that is certainly true in Georgia. In other places, like Milwaukee the Biden vote came from the white, suburban moms who did repudiate Trump, while black voter turnout was actually less. If it is inappropriate to paint black voters as a monolith, and Latino voters as a monolith, it is also inappropriate to treat white woman as a monolith. This election, there was a definite divergence, and if it is not acknowledged the solution of railing on white women will potentially alienate allies and do nothing to disrupt this extremely dangerous movement. www.nytimes.com/2020/11/06/technology/study-considers-a-link-between-qanon-and-polling-errors.htmlCertainly true? It would be cool if we could listen to Kamala Harris on whether or not she identifies as Black instead of our black friends and coworkers: "“I am black and I am proud of it," she said bluntly. "I was born black and I’ll die black and I am proud of it. And I am not gonna make any excuses for it, for anybody, because they don't understand.” www.politico.com/story/2019/02/12/kamala-harris-2020-black-race-1167030And as Olan said, she certainly has been (and will continue to be) treated like a Black woman in this country. The same thing happened with Obama. My guess is we will continue to see people try and separate Kamala from her blackness. And we know why

There is no doubt that the black community and black women in particular are the reason Biden is president. I hope we ( as white women) continue to remember this and support them in taking positions of power. I hope we remember to listen to them and learn from them. I hope we can follow their lead and support them instead of expecting their support. Quite frankly, white women continue to disappoint me (said as a white woman). Predictable behavior won’t ever disappoint me.. The peas have been instrumental in helping me settle into that realization. Nothing I say or do can change the way white women operate 🤷🏾♀️

The article you posted does a good job of explaining why Black men vote Republican. Outside of that I don’t have any thoughts except to speculate that these men don’t have Black wives or partners. 91% of Black women voted for Biden according to early exit polls.

When someone tells you what their lovely kind hardworking (the descriptors crack me up and make me scratch my head all at the same time btw) black co-worker said but the co-worker isn’t here to provide context or defend their statement the conversation isn’t really all that hmmm searching for the right words...the conversation becomes speculative
Black people aren’t monolithic as everyone will have you believe.
My thoughts:
Kamala Harris is treated like a Black women isn’t she? That’s for damn sure 🤷🏾♀️

Stacey Abrams lost the governorship but won the presidency. Oh, no! I missed that with all that was going on. What a loss. It was a loss. The photo appears to be taken in a Black church where Abrams is being prayed over. She is holding the hand of her daughter and touching the shoulder of her son. I’m assuming the photo was taken during her run for governor.
