Duly noted...and ignored. We are two separate people, not some liberal monolith. Kind of like republicans that you seem to lump together. Your posts on this thread are exactly what people have been addressing on this thread. Elaine on the other hand is a class act that tries to educate people in discussions rather than belittle. Carry on denigrating anyone who doesn’t hold the exact same feelings as you. I gave you the benefit of the doubt on your Olan thread earlier this year but Olan had you pegged. Your sole purpose on this thread has been to attack anyone that has different opinions than you. Care to share why you gave her the benefit of the doubt when it was pretty clear how harm filled her Creative Writing half assed apology was?

I think more than the ignore feature I’d love to completely ban someone from participating in my threads. I’m sure there are peas who feel that way about me but goodness I’m tired of the same energy around here. I think maybe that’s what I couldn’t get across in my OP.

Then someone would have surely quoted her no? Even if she deletes something would remain I’d think.
I’ve been accused of everything under the sun with no receipts so I take issue with someone being 99% certain of something but providing no proof. Anything speculative the most liked pea is usually the one everyone believes instead of it being fact driven.

Ugliness? You mean someone saying I made sweeping generalizations and then not coming back and owning their mistake? Why categorize that as ugliness? I didn’t personally attack anyone.
And no one seems to intelligibly defend their stance anymore. That’s why no one see can a different perspective. The perspective isn’t one Republicans are comfortable naming and defending. We can see why no👀also I don’t see liberal peas rallying around misinformation but I do notice what I would describe as fence riding.

Olan , I learned a lot from this thread. Thank you for that. I knew that transracial adoptions and foster care placements can be problematic, but have understood that white families outnumber families of color in the foster care system. I thought that it was better for children to be part of a family of whatever color than to be continually shuffled through the system. And that may be true. But what I've learned from reading here is that the problem begins long before placement. The first problem is that children of color are more likely to be removed from their homes than white children. And also - children are removed from their families due to neglect/poverty, but then money is given to their foster families to house them. That money would be better spent in lifting these children out of poverty in their own homes, with their own families. Typed out it seems pretty basic but I had never put these thoughts together before. Thank you for educating me. Me too. Thanks OlanI recognize the time it takes to give something another thought and track down the information to help frame a new way of seeing something. When I say I appreciate it. I truly truly mean it. All I’ve ever really wanted from the peas was for someone to click a link and read something that might spark a change of heart or activism.

"Were you, or are you a Trump supporter or supporter of current Republican party policies? (I'm using policies loosely because there aren't any anymore, except Sieg Heil to whatever the latest atrocity is that Trump pulls out of his ass) If so, a "cool and unique" person could not be a Trump supporter. Those two statements are mutually exclusive. If you "love to encourage others" and are a Trump supporter, then what you mean is, you love to encourage everyone but people of color, non-heterosexuals, and non-Christians. You are free to speak here until the cows come home, but if you are spouting BS that is anathema and intolerable to people who want a just society, you will be challenged, and rightly so. There's another thread on here about Nazi concentration camps. Nazi concentration camps happened because Germans didn't speak out. Smart people take a page from history. ------------------ "And it's really a wonder that any Republicans/Conservatives no longer post here? I'll give you evidence A as to why. This person has now deemed anybody who supports the Republican Party a racist, homophobe, right wing Christian who cannot possibly be cool and unique and worth knowing." Thank you *KAS* for calling it out. I will leave Olan's post quoted above as an example of the closed-mindedness, unkindness, discrimination, labeling and divisiveness that I have endured. Olan, you are no better than the people you hate. Who do I hate? What post did you quote? Is it missing?

I’m not trying to direct the conversation or anything and know threads take whatever turn they want 😏but I’m not talking about political threads or discussion and the adult choices to participate in them....I’m talking about the complete disappearance of most conservative and Republican pea voices. Do you think after a decade of board participation they’ve just decided to not log in somewhere? Seems odd no? I'm sorry, Olan, I think I may have misunderstood you. I think they are logging in, but they are choosing conservative sites to do so. Like the exodus from facebook to parler. I assume there's conservative counterparts to this type of message board. ETA: do you think we've lost a conservative voice on non-political threads, as well? Ah duh They’ve found an alternative to 2peas. And yes I do mean we’ve lost their voices on non political topics. In a recent thread someone shared what I would describe as a Trumper sentiment and was immediately “helped” into a different perspective by another pea. I’d link but I don’t want someone’s changed idea to be linked to them. She didn’t resist she just said hmm okay sorry. No one personally attacked her either. It was cool to see

This. 1000x this. I don’t go looking for negativity and toxicity to bring in my life. There is enough of it in the real world so I don’t want it at the place I go for an escape. I’m wasn’t suggesting the Conservative peas come back and ONLY participate in political threads or feel inclined to constantly defend their political beliefs.

I think the dynamic of the board has changed for a lot of reasons, and not because liberals are big bullies that pushed away conservatives. When I joined 2Peas in 1999, I was a newlywed in my early twenties. Mormon. Conservative. And conservatives FAR outnumbered the liberals, and those threads got NASTY. As I’ve gotten older, and my worldview has expanded, I’ve moved further and further to the left. jeremysgirl posted her story above, and how many others are there like us? But, hey, when the conservatives are posting bombs and leaving the thread, it’s hard to have a conversation. And, dammit, if you have a stance, you should be able to defend it. I remember the board being very conservative too. At the time I didn’t have any views and I mean any so the debates mostly went over my head. I didn’t consider the idea that some of the liberal peas are former Conservatives. How I slice the crowd*** Conservatives: Religious people who vote Republican. Republican: Doesn’t support social services. Trumpers: Fans of 45 and his ideologies. ***I am not professing to be right. Just how I break it down in my own head.

I’ll bite. I’m a registered Republican but I am not a Trumper. I don’t post on political threads because it seems like a waste of time. That isn’t specific to this board necessarily but the world in general. Back during the old 2 Peas I felt there was more productive discussion. A few of the peas that are Democrats even changed my views on some issues. Again, that was during a time in this country that people had civil discussions and didn’t judge a persons with by whether they had a d or a r behind their name. Now it seems like everyone is this is my opinion and if you feel differently you are a pos. I am willing to give my takes on issues but not if it just so someone can turn around and say what a shitty person I am for not having their same beliefs. Ahh so you are here just silent about political views for fear someone will label you a shitty person. I can see the why in this. I can also be introspective enough to say it could likely be me either thinking you are a shitty person or thinking and verbalizing depending on the day. I can see that in the same way I hate defending what I feel/share/say a Conservative pea probably feels the same way.

While I am not a Republican I would certainly be considered conservative by most peas. I have noticed and commented on, to the cowboy, about this very issue here. Conservatives have most definitely stopped posting here. I rarely read and almost never post on political threads but it has been very obvious to me that conservatives now SEEM unwelcome. I feel completely different about the Covid vaccine from the posts I've read here as well. There's no point in me posting my feelings/opinions on it because I know what will happen. 2peas has always been a happy place for me but it has become much less so of late. I have been spending more time on the scrapbooking forum. It seems a kinder, gentler place. It kind of makes me sad the cancel culture I see here. I'm not going anywhere though. I still love 2peas. I think it’s because we have less and less fluff topics to distract from important shit. Before I think everyone found each other more tolerable because well I still need to know how you handle your MIL issue or what the butt paste recipe is. Just less and less to bond over now I suppose. Also maybe time? I could not like something a pea said and then quickly forget the how and why. Now the peas I don’t like I really really don’t like...and now no interaction or apology will change how I feel. We’ve been interacting this way for so long now I am less likely to share helpful information or personal issues. Just doesn’t feel safe doing so. So I guess I can see why many conservative peas have pulled back.

Like everyone, he was neither all good nor all bad. He was a valued and loved member of a family and I can imagine losing my partner of over 70 years. I hope the Queen and the rest of the family have peace. It’s not 2Peas NSBR without a snowsilver hand slap. 🙄 I needed to edit and the quote was erased. The board won’t let me put it back. But I’m sure you all get the gist. 🤣and the avatar always takes me out. It’s so the face of consistent judgement

"I think even if treated poorly when you have something valuable to add to a discussion you almost have the responsibility to ride out whatever negative feeling you have and continue participating." You know what? After a while you get really tired of getting beaten on. Not just here. Lots of other places too. I'm a cool and unique person. I love to encourage others. I'm worth knowing. But I don't feel free to speak here. I don't feel "a person like me" is wanted here. This is why I don't "continue participating". Now you have your own bubble where you can all agree with one another and can pat one another on the back. You should be happy you have succeeded in canceling "people like me" or should I say "voters like me" from this board. Aren't you happy?? You did it! Great job. I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m working on separating people from what they said and did and who they are as whole human beings. Therapy man. Admittedly I’m still at the fuck them people juncture of healing BUT I will say the thing we uncovered (by we I mean me because she wasn’t exactly on board) was that withdrawing energy takes away the “magic” people have. Do you really care what liberals think of you? Are they wrong? I will say the only peas I’d like canceled are liberal so 🤷🏾♀️Every conservative pea that left could re-join and it would be no skin off my nose.

Does that concern anyone? It was helpful to me to have a pulse on what conservative peas felt like was the latest concern. I live in a red state. I definitely have a pulse on conservative's concerns. I agree that it is useful to see all sides. In all honesty, I do not miss the vicious posts back in the 2Peas days. I do wish we could all converse in a civil manner on here, like I do with my conservative friends. But it doesn't seem possible these days. It does seem impossible. I think because we are reckoning with so much. I wonder what this admin will do for bi-partisanship or what that even looks like moving forward.

Were they treated poorly? Or were they challenged in their beliefs and had to stand up for them and when your beliefs include defending someone like Trump, it was impossible. So they left. But let’s go with the argument that they were indeed treated poorly and that they didn’t dish it during the Obama admin or gloat when 45 was elected.

I think even if treated poorly when you have something valuable to add to a discussion you almost have the responsibility to ride out whatever negative feeling you have and continue participating. Why would you expect them to? If I'm being treated poorly I'll go somewhere else - in person or online. If anyone wants to watch conservative trends there's always foxnews! I’d expect them to because they have a duty to push the Republican agenda and rep their political party or something like that 🤪 Not even going to into the comparison of the board during Bush and Obama administrations. Just simply the duty to continue the conversation however uncomfortable. Because progress/bipartisanship or whatever. It truly is a divided nation. Pretty sad but also interesting to see unfold. And umm Fox News? I could never. I guess I could find a conservative news source to read but then I’d have to wade through the commentary. I don’t think I would have been pushed to own a gun from a broadcast.

I mentioned something similar to DH within the past week. Scrapbooking seemed to be more of a conservative trend (think LDS/Mormon influencers). 2 peas seemed to have both sides but now this board definitely leans left. Also, to fully remind me of how old I am ... I graduated high school in 2001 (20!!!! years). I remember my college boyfriend buying me a red long sleeved twopeasinabucket t shirt. Class of ‘03! I was a pea in my teens and avoided black out drunk nights and poor choices because I was here on 2peas. Everyone had babies then so much of the chatter was motherhood more than scrapbooking. The board moved super fast back then too!

That’s my opinion just in case something about the text lacked clarity.
I’m not going to go as far as saying I miss the conservative peas but like the late and great T. Shakur said “Watch for phonies, keep your enemies close... watch your homies” 🤷🏾♀️

I was looking at old threads (IKR) and saw so many of the conservative peas have completely left the board not just stopped participating.
Does that concern anyone? It was helpful to me to have a pulse on what conservative peas felt like was the latest concern.
Can’t recall the thread but there was one where I saw how many Conservative peas carried weapons daily. Not just owned guns but carried them in purses. Mind was blown.
A family member just joked I am the prepper of our family because I insisted everyone get armed. We are an anti-guns family and apparently always have been. No one owned them even the people I grew up thinking were hardcore O.G.s. Now at the very least there is one gun per household. Had I not seen how many pea households were armed I think we would still be unarmed.
Ask me which members had what amounted to very expensive bats because they didn’t take my advice of buying ammunition monthly though😑. They live in a “good ole boy” state where gun stores are as cliqueish as HS so I actually had to beg a white friend to purchase some on their behalf😳

When I was speaking of someone insisting I follow protocol someone actually corrected me online because I didn’t write husband of Queen Elizabeth II after Philip’s name. Of course I didn’t know that I needed to and the more thought I gave it the more I realized the issue I took with the correction. Like who cares? Honestly, I am a citizen of a Commonwealth country, and I wouldn't write 'husband of Queen Elizabeth II' after his name. It isn't part of his official title, and I think everyone knows who he's been married to for the past 74 years. Tempted to research his official title so I could rub it in their face that they were wrong but I’m trying for the high road on April 9, 2021. FTW Prince Philip is my favorite styling of racist. If you are going to be offensive I’d like to also be entertained a little. Someone wrote he once told a South African dignitary he looked like he was dressed for slumber! 🤣 Opppp!

Matriculating in the ‘90’s Eli Wiesel’s book was pretty much required reading so I know a good deal about the Holocaust. I can name two.
I’ll admit a big part of me gets saddened at the attention the Holocaust receives because my ancestors don’t get the same respect or remembrance

I mean I wouldn’t be invited to tea and purposefully be disrespectful but I don’t think the Royal family deserves the reverence they get so insisting I observe it is akin to me making everyone stan Beyoncé.

www.foxnews.com/media/ap-obit-prince-philip-hits-racist-remarks.ampI think it’s poor taste but then again I’m also a big believer that if you want to be remembered well don’t behave like an asshole throughout your life. Prince Philip said a lot of racist things. I got into a big row with my personal trainer when Kobe Bryant died about this very topic. I talk bad about the dead so sew me 🤷🏾♀️ Another poor taste thing I’ve been seeing in the comments is the insistence “outsiders” care about and or observe “protocol”....that’s y’all thing. Why would one need to type out husband of Queen Elizabeth after his name when I don’t buy into the whole Royal family. It would be like me insisting a British pea refer to Beyoncé and Queen Bee.

“In addition, we need a concerted effort to call upon a variety of cultural communities to foster children.“ I think a great first step though would be to stop removing Black children from their homes in the first place. It’s counterproductive. Removing a child because of “neglect” is just a wealth gap issue (caused by enslaving Africans, segregation and redlining, unequal pay for the same work, systematic racism etc) www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2020/12/08/the-black-white-wealth-gap-left-black-households-more-vulnerable/amp/Only to send the kid to a home where they might actually be not only neglected but physically abused all with a federal stipend attached to his garbage bag of things. MerryMom returned but didn’t add anything to the discussion outside of a definition but trust me Child Protective Services is the boogeyman of Black children. I have a sister who credits the fear of being removed from our home and placed with white people for her advanced education. Even middle class Black parents have a fear that Child Protective Services will enter their home. And I always talk about the trickle down effect of injustice so think about all the actual abuse that isn’t thwarted by Child Protective Services because they are harassing Black families. So much incest and actual abuse. We have a very broken system.

calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/State officials quickly learned how to use the convict leasing system to disproportionately exploit Black people. In an average year, 97% of Alabama’s county convicts were Black. When coal companies' labor needs increased, local police swept small-town streets, targeting Black Alabamians for quick arrest on charges of vagrancy, gambling, drunkenness, or theft. These citizens were then tried and convicted, sentenced to 60- or 90-days hard labor plus court costs, and handed over to the mines. Employers frequently held and worked convicts well beyond their scheduled release dates since local officials had no incentive to intervene and prisoners lacked the resources and power to demand enforcement. Conditions in the mines were deplorable. Imprisoned men were often chained together in ankle-deep water, working 12- to 16-hour shifts with no breaks, and surviving on fistfuls of spoiled meat and cornbread stuffed into the rags they wore for uniforms. Describing the experience, a Black former convict laborer recalled that the prisoners had slept in their chains, covered with “filth and vermin,” and the powder cans used as slop jars frequently overflowed and ran over into their beds. Prisoner safety was not a priority for the mines’ owners and operators. After the deadly explosion, local newspapers reported on the deaths as a humorous event rather than a tragedy of lost life. Coverage listed the victims' names alongside their conviction offenses: vagrancy, weapons violations, bootlegging, and gambling. One rural newspaper reported, “Several negroes from this section... were caught in the Banner mine explosion. That is a pretty tight penalty to pay for selling booze.” Recent NPR article www.npr.org/transcripts/884989263
