When my kids were young they would ask what's for dinner and then they would groan when I told them. I started doing the same thing and tell them "food" which frustrated them instead of me. haha

Tonite it's a recipe for Taco Salad that my son found online. It involves bottled French dressing, of all things, but is quite tasty. Happy anniversary, littlemama! My mom used to make taco salad with Catalina dressing. It sounds weird but it's really good! As for me, we are eating out among doing errands tonight, so it's easy tonight. Dd will have a sandwich and chips and fruit, so... really, lunch for dinner.

We are in the process of building our condo and we will be putting quartz in. I haven't lived with it yet, but I really like the look of it. A contractor told me that quartz is just man-made granite, but I don't think they look the same.

I really like the look of the black stainless too, unfortunately they are not one of the choices. I'm still on the teeter totter lol.

My suggestions: Consider genetic testing for MTHFR gene I know this is a serious discussion and I deal with depression too, but this made me laugh. The first thing that came to mind was the "motherf*cker" gene!

I'm considering white now, but do you think it would be too jarring with the dark cabinets? I think white would look nice with dark cabinets. But just be sure not to get a white stove top. I have one and it is the biggest PITA to keep clean. All of my other white appliances look brand new. Not the stove top. It's horrible. The only thing that helps keep it decent is the Norwex cleaner I have. But I'm cleaning/scrubbing those suckers every other night to maintain it. At this point, I am considering inventing self-cleaning appliances!

We will be having hamburger patties on toast, since I don't have any buns. Well, I have *buns*, but they are attached and the most vigorous dieting doesn't seem to budge them. I have no chips/potatoes/tots/fries in the house to go with, so I will look for something else in the freezer. Maybe I'll make them into mock salisbury steaks with gravy... I do have a really good instant mashed potato that would work to go with it. Trixie Bender will you please allow me to hire you as my personal chef? Your attention to rounded out meals is inspiring, but alas, in my laziness I would have stopped at the sheet pan meal. lol ETA: Thanks for allowing this lazy cook to be a part of the group! I strive for improvement...

Sounds like there is more hate than love towards ss. I have 3 options, white, black and ss. I would never have known that water on ss leaves a stain. That right there, would make me crazy. My youngest at home is almost 18, but she leaves a mess wherever she goes. I do also have the option of white. I just wasn't sure white would go with the cabinets. They are a deep brown walnut, just beautiful. The black with ss is very pretty with them. Here is a picture of a similar color. We haven't decided on flooring yet, but the model home does have a lighter color tile which looks a bit like travertine. We can choose what we want on the floor, but I really like the tile, and I think maybe white appliances would look good with the floor, just not sure about the cabinets. I LOVE the cabinets though, so they won't change. Maybe I should consider white as well?

Liver! My mom was on weight watchers when I was a kid and she was supposed to eat liver once a week for the iron. What she ate we all ate. It smells great when cooked with bacon and onions, but to eat? GAG

We are having our condo built at the moment and the model has stainless steel appliances in it except for the fridge. How do you think they hold up cosmetically? Are they hard to keep shiny, do they show a lot of fingerprints? I have the option of all black or stainless with some black. Any info would be helpful. I just don't want to get stainless and then hate them later if they are buggers to keep shiny. Thanks!
ETA: Our cabinets will be a dark brown walnut. I'm now considering white appliances, but do you think the white will be too jarring with the cabinet color? I was considering black as well, but it sounds like they are just as hate inspiring.

My grandma was a first grade teacher. She wasn't very "homey" but I loved to sit on the floor with our backs against the couch and watch her oil paint. We would walk in and find her there and we could just snuggle up and watch whatever she was painting come to life. She and grandpa always had fun size candy bars "in the corner cabinet" and we always had permission to go get some. Miss them both so much!
Thanks OP, I LOVE threads like these!

I cooked a pork sirloin roast for Easter. Apparently sirloin means the same as tenderloin. Even though I cooked it low and slow, it came out quite dry. The little parts that were dark meat were good. I have never successfully cooked pork loin anything, I need a foolproof way that works every time. I am taking the leftovers of said pork and throwing it in the food processor with green onions, pickles and mayo and making a sandwich spread. We'll have that on some bread with lettuce and call it good. "But Mom, where are the green vegetables we should be eating every night?" They're in there. Onions and pickles. Both green. Both vegetable. Tadaaaa! I always cook my pork tenderloin high and fast. It goes into a 425 oven for 20 minutes (longer if internal temp isn't high enough yet). If you sear it before going in the oven, then drop the bake time to 15 minutes. Thank you! I had it TOTALLY WRONG!

I have a saatva mattress which I am starting to dislike. If I am confined to bed for any length of time (fibro) a valley starts to form which makes my back worse. We twist the mattress periodically, but you can't flip it. I'm not happy with this mattress.
ETA: I thought, you know this mattress is under warranty, I'm gonna call them. I did, and they are sending a new mattress, they think there was a manufacturing issue! Wow, awesome customer service. They are also letting me get the 11" instead of the 14", that extra 3 inches made making the bed with new sheets hard for me.

Something from the freezer, undetermined as of yet. We are trying to use up everything in the freezer to get ready to move. Hopefully I can find something edible without freezer burn.

My dh found a product at Lowe's that dissolves hair. It worked lickety split. I'll see if I can find the name of it when I get home. My dd has nearly waist length hair, and her shower drain....oh my.

We're having sesame beef and vegetables, rice, asian brussels sprout slaw, egg rolls (I have learned that they go with asian meals just like canned corn goes with ham and canned cranberry sauce goes with turkey. ), and because this meal doesn't have enough vegetables, I'll roast green beans and cauliflower. Could you please be my personal chef? Your meals always sound so good, and I bet you put a lot of effort into them. If I was making eggrolls, I'd say, we're having eggrolls, and that's your vegetable too. And your meat. Bon Apetit! I'm making a risotto of sorts, with dreaded cream soup and instant rice, because that's all the energy my fibromyalgia will give me today. Maybe I can pull some fish or chicken out of the freezer. Don't die of shock now.

I think leg of lamb on the wood pellet grill this year. And I made an awesome lemon risotto in the Instant Pot recently, so I'll probably make that again. Maybe asparagus? And an Instant Pot cheesecake, made the night before. Oh, I always forget about lamb. I never had it growing up, and have still never tried it. Is it similar to any other meat? Is it gamey? Could you share your lemon risotto recipe? I love the idea of pierogies! Again, never made them, but they are delicious. Do you make them with just potatoes? I'm thinking I may pick up a lemon supreme pie from Village Inn. It's like a cross between cheesecake and lemon pie, with two layers. I suck at making pie crust.

I searched and didn't find anything, has anyone made plans for Easter yet? I always serve a ham, but I found out this year that my adult children don't really like ham! Why did someone never say anything?!?! All my kids prefer turkey unbeknownst to me (how does that even happen?), but my DH prefers ham. I usually have something spring-like, such as asparagus and maybe scalloped potatoes. I'm really interested in hearing what sides and desserts you serve, please share any recipes that may be relevant! I would also love to hear your Easter traditions!

I have lots of nieces and nephews that I send birthday cards to, the little ones would get such a kick out of this. I keep telling myself that I need to use stamps I already have to make the scene, but those lawn fawn stamp sets are so cute. Control...control...

I haven't been here in so long! I haven't been cooking, we've just been fending for ourselves and that has to stop! Why do we just eat crap when we don't cook for anyone else? Aren't we worth cooking a real meal for? Anyway, I've got to get motivated. I don't understand why this is such a struggle. Open freezer, remove meat. Thaw meat. Cook meat and some sides. Easy. Why is it so hard? I must be lazy...ugh! Tonight will not be takeout. That's as far as I've gotten so far.
