This is my 25th year of teaching. I think the changes in kids have many causes. I blame a lot of it on social media. Kids see bad behavior online going viral and it normalizes it. I also blame parents for not having boundaries and not teaching their kids no. I also place some blame on schools for not holding kids accountable for their actions. All of these things plus Covid, inappropriate educational standards, etc are causing the issues with currently see.

Here's what I did no matter how or what the parent reacts...... I will say to them that testing of any sort for anything will give everyone involved answers and education. It's what is done after the test results are shared where decisions are made. People want to be educated. Testing gives them an education. Each person does their own thing with their knowledge/education. Leave it open......once professionals administer any evaluations/testing the parents may see what is going on. This is also my advice. Another thing I would say is we can use testing to rule things out too and make sure we have the best plan of action for your child. It will give us the information we need.

She’s pure trash that loves the spotlight. Hopefully the voters of Colorado wake up and find someone else for her seat.

My district is all about inclusion, except as per usual, it is an unfunded mandate. In addition, they can't find people who want to be SPED 1:1 paras, even if they deign to fund them. Our SPED team is overloaded dealing with these behavioral challenges, and then no one else gets their services. On average, takes us at least 1.5 years to be able to move a child into a self-contained program. I've been teaching in Texas since 2008 and have never seen an actual 1:1 para for any child. They're simply not funded. And there are definitely kids who would benefit. Same I’ve been teaching in Texas since 1999 and have only one time seen a 1:1 aide and that was for a medically fragile kid in kindergarten. I had a para last year from Idaho and she was shocked we didn’t have more paras. She said her mom in Idaho always has a para in her kindergarten class. We don’t have paras like that. Most of the paras either work with me in pull out intervention or they are in one of our autism classrooms. Kindergarten is so hard because we literally know nothing about the kids when we place them into classes. My admin team is willing to move kids around if one teacher ends up with several heavy hitters. I hope your class starts to settle down!

Dh and I have had that conversation and I simply told him that’s not how I vote. I don’t vote simply on what best benefits me, but what I feel is most beneficial and needed in our country.

No radio in the house, but yesterday we wanted to listen to the college football game where DS goes to school and it wasn’t on TV here, so I went to the radio stations website and streamed the play by play through my phone and Bluetoothed to my Alexa. I guess that doesn’t really count since it was an OKC station and we wouldn’t have been able to pick it up on a normal radio.
In my car I mostly listen to my current audiobook.

Ugh do you have no air? It’s been well over 100 every day here, but we have air. The worst part is car duty after school! It took us 2 hours on day 1 because we are a brand new school. We had several teacher including myself that had to go inside and take breaks. At one point I thought I was going to pass out. Thankfully we got staff and parents trained and have it down to about 30 minutes now All this. Ugh. We start with kids next week and I will have afternoon carpool duty this year. It's going to be five billion degrees, no shade, and of course the first few days take forever. I'm so sorry for those of you who don't have AC in your buildings. As our climate warms up, that is going to become more and more of an issue. Parents - want to know what you can do to help your teachers? Learn and follow the carpool requirements from day 1. Teach your kinders to unbuckle, open the door, and get out of the car on their own before school starts. Finish your goodbyes before you pull up and make sure they already have their shoes on, lunch and backpack in hand. Also teach them to recognize their own car from the outside and to quickly hop in the seat when the door is opened. The carpool line is not the place to chat with the teacher or send a message to someone inside. I’ll add to that. Also parents of little ones, be aware. Your child most likely will not recognize your car. If you see your child roll down your window, wave your hand, call out to them. Just do something to help us find you. Lastly, no one should be on their phone during car pickup. I cannot tell you the number of times Ive almost been hit.

It reminds me of when I was a little girl. I used to grab one of the Christmas catalogs we got and I would go through it page by page. I let myself pick one thing per page to “buy.”

Hey everyone! Anyone else getting close to sending your child off to college?
My oldest is moving in to Oklahoma State on Wednesday. He worked his last day today and will be home tomorrow working on getting everything ready to go. He’s so excited, but I can’t believe it’s here. I’m very excited to see what fun things he has in store for him. College was the best 4 years of mine and DH’s life. I am definitely going to be sad to lose my side kick. Out of my 2 boys my oldest is the one always up to go places and shop with me.
Anyone else about to send kids off?

Unless it’s one of my own children, I don’t see myself attending a destination wedding. It’s just too much. I will send my gift and love and then go on vacation where I want. We don’t have enough money for multiple vacations a year and I really don’t want someone’s wedding to be the focus of my only family vacation of the year anyway.

I had my youngest the first day of school. I did attend inservice though and got my room set up. Even if I had my baby during the summer, I would have at least made sure and communicated classroom routines and procedures with you.
Lean on the other team teachers and ask around for extra bulletin board supplies. We have a new teacher that asked for classroom books for his library and tons of teachers donated their extras to him. Teachers don’t get paid enough to supply their classroom with what it needs, so subs sure don’t!

Do not spend your own money!! Ask around at the school. Teachers are hoarders and are bound to have extra posters or bulletin board stuff.
Are there any other teachers that teach the same subjects?

How about a gift card? I like to do places where they can get a full meal including veggies or other sides.

Glad to see your update. My principal is amazing in every way, except responding to emails. She’s a little better with texts, but often I get the best results when I can find her and ask her my questions directly.

I would use them if I had a need for them, but I only mail about 2-3 things per year so I usually just toss them.

I also have a ninja that works well. I add just a little liquid and blend and then continue to add a little more liquid and blend until the smoothie is the consistency I want.

We just reheat and eat. DH also loves the roast as a sandwich. I try not to make too many potatoes and carrots, so we don’t have leftovers of those. I’m not a big fan of either of them reheated.

We don’t have to. We put in the absence and then it gets picked up (hopefully) by a sub. Many of us contact our favorite subs to see if they can sub for us and then that sub will grab the job. My school has a very hard time getting subs. I sure wish they would raise sub pay to increase our sub pool.
