... I would buy the heck out of the Pickleball collection (if I played Pickleball) even if I don't like the colors and it will clash with all my photos because I don't have anything in that theme. ... Photoplay - Pickleball was released this summer (see this thread) & is still available at ACOT, SB.com, & probably other retailers. ...Sometimes I wonder if "making it work" and buying paper for the b-side, makes manufacturers think the actual theme is more popular than it actually is... Agreed. From manufacturers' perspective: If it isn't broke, don't fix it! Most manufacturers don't stray from the standard industry themes because they are proven sellers, since they’re often the only product available for customers to purchase. It's a vicious cycle...

Hope your husband, his colleagues, & the students have fun on Tuesday!
Non-scrapbook related, but I'm loving that basketball season has arrived (especially since fall is tardy, & it's still 80+ degrees outside)!

In general, I scrapbook from the perspective of the time the story/event happened (not in hindsight). Therefore, I would document her junior prom, include photos of her & her date, friends, group, invitation/tickets, etc., & factual information, such as the date, photo shoot/dinner/prom locations, high school name, prom theme, & names of everyone pictured. (I'd also create a separate layout about prom details, such as shopping, dress/shoes/jewelry, corsage/bouquet, hairstyle, & other services, if those were important to her.) Even if your daughter & her prom date were still dating or friends, I wouldn't include more information about him or their relationship/friendship (then or now) on a layout(s) about her junior prom; it would be all about her!

Is it possible that instead of creating for the “average” scrapbooker, that the thought process on creating a collection is on numbers? If you have to choose between releasing a Christmas collection or a pickleball collection, how many people would scrapbook Christmas versus how many would scrapbook pickleball. The manufacturer would want to make as much $$ as possible, so would go with the theme that has the biggest potential market. "Numbers" is the bottom line for every company/industry, including non-profit. The goal of for-profit companies/industries, such as papercrafting, is to maximize their "numbers" & defining + listening to their audience/end user should be the first step. Given new collections are released monthly in the papercrafting industry, established companies never have to choose between a Christmas or pickleball collection. For example, Photoplay released three collections - Pickleball (mini), Santa, Please Stop Here (holiday), & Travelogue (travel) - in June (see this thread). Since Photoplay routinely offers standard industry themes (e.g. seasons, holidays, baby, birthday) as well as mini-themes, such as non-mainstream sports (e.g. pickleball, rugby), current events (e.g. Barbie movie-inspired, inflation, pandemic), etc. to meet its customers needs, it seems the "numbers" for Pickleball & other non-standard industry themes must prove either profitable (since it's the only or one of a few manufacturers offering the theme) or a loss leader (i.e. product sold at a loss for the purpose of attracting customers) for the company.

Thanks for your responses. I purchased a Cameo 4 on clearance a couple months ago & am still debating whether to keep or donate it, since I'm uncertain whether I'll use it enough (primarily for backgrounds) to justify its storage space, learning curve, maintenance, etc.

Thanks for your responses. Like grammadee, I believe the industry's target audience & the "average scrapper" are somewhat different. Since the industry became theme-based ~15 years ago, IMHO its perpetual target audience appears to specifically be the 25-35 year old white, married, middle class, Morman mom who documents family vacations, holidays, weddings, & her children's baby, toddler, & elementary school years. These themes have been offered on a loop for over a decade with the same/similar color palettes, icons, & sentiments & few to no updates for aging of the target/her family, newer entrants/diversity, the decline of scrapbooking &/or societal changes due to technology/economy/pandemic/etc., &/or other factors. Big box stores & MLM companies sell these standard themes in their own brands to capture the "average scrapper" who, like caspad & Linda described, has historically scrapped socially at in-person crops & documents events with matching themed collections/supplies purchased at big box stores or via a MLM salesperson. Sadly, most of the non-big box/MLM companies have not attempted to discover the actual demographics or wants/needs of non-average scrappers (who have remained loyal through recession, pandemic, life stages, etc.).

PaperAngel , are you asking for who WE think is the average scrapper? Or who the INDUSTRY is targeting? ... Theoretically, it should be the same. However, if you think the industry & its customers define the target audience, aka "average scrapper," differently, then please share both perspectives. TIA.

The position I am interviewing for is with my boss's old company. I had to disclose that he was my supervisor. I need a good response on why I'm looking to make a lateral move. I'm sure that question will be coming. If “my boss” now refers to the former assistant director who was demoted to your supervisor a couple weeks ago, perhaps mention his brief tenure as your supervisor & cite recent turnover/reassignments as the reason for considering a lateral move.

In addition to the above, consider: Bella Blvd - Merry Little Christmas: Ephemera Words (white sentiment in script font on narrow red plaid strip) Carta Bella - Season's Greetings: Christmas Cab Stamp Set ("It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas time") Mintay - Mintay Basics: Christmas Sentiments Paper (cut-apart sheet) Photoplay - Holiday Charm: Holiday Charm Stamp Set ("It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go" label) with coordinating dies
Another option is to computer-generate the sentiment using your desired font(s) & color, then print onto cardstock, trim, & adhere to your layout. HTH. ETA: For clarity, both Carta Bella collections were released this summer: A Wonderful Christmas in July & Season's Greetings in August (see here).

Yeah, that’s what worries me. I just need to know how fast it is likely to break down and/or affect what it touches. Uncertain, depends on several factors (e.g. humidity, light). An alternative is to create film strips (or other embellishments) with acid-/lignin-free paper using a film strip (or whatever desired embellishment) die or cut file & fill openings with vellum, paper, or photos (as a substitute for acetate). HTH

… And I really love some of the acetate items, like the film strips, but I’m concerned about using them in my scrapbooks. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? I mean, I scrap for me since we don’t have children to pass things down to, so if the acetate won’t be an issue for 30 or 40 years then I’ll be dead and it won’t matter ... Per the product description on the 49 & Market website, “Acetate is non-archival.” HTH

Sadly, (10) UNC loses its first game of the season (27-31) to a UVA team entering the contest with a 1-5 record. This marks UVA's first win against a top 10 team on the road in its school history, leaves (4) FSU - with its 38-20 victory over (16) Duke - as the only undefeated team in the ACC, & eliminates UNC from playoff contention. On a positive note, we are one week closer to basketball season...

... PaperAngel , I agree with the Azure glaze - so beautiful. Is this stuff similar to TCW Stencil Butter? ... It seems so, although I've only used VB CreativFX glazes (in iridescent & silver) & never TCW Stencil Butters to compare them. See the Azure glaze shown in Vicki Boutin's collection overview video here (the same video as linked upthread) at 1:03:08 - 1:06:50 as well as Vicki Boutin's 5 Easy Ways to Use Creative FX Glaze! video ( there) for additional product information. ... And thanks for the tip on the Kallax. I will go with those if I can. I also found some metal locker-like cabinets on Amazon I want to get because they have doors. Note doors (or drawers, shelves, dividers - see insert options HERE) can be added to the Ikea Kallax. HTH, & best wishes with your new craft room!

Note Rainbow Avenue is not branded as American Crafts, rather it appears to be the debut collection of a new brand, Celes Gonzalo. Welcome to the new designer! I'm not the target audience of American Crafts (or its brands) pattern paper collections. I especially dislike the cheap acrylic stamp sets, ink cubes, & shades of yellow in their color palettes. TFS.

(12) UNC defeated (25) Miami (41-31). With a 6-0 record (for only the sixth time in school history), my alma mater hosts UVA next week. Go Heels!
Hope you are enjoying the crop & the (22) LSU victory over Auburn (48-18)!

I wasn't introduced to the hobby via Creative Memories (or other MLM scrapbook/stamping companies) & never attended a party or bought/used any of its products. I don't search for older products, since I'm grateful to still have supplies from defunct manufacturers (e.g. Chatterbox, KI Memories) in my inventory. I find them more creative/diverse/versatile/usable & less themed/repetitive than recent releases. Hope you (& your students) enjoy the found treasures!

For almost two decades (& several moves) our family has chosen CPI Security (including door, window, & motion sensors). Monthly monitoring costs $30-50, depending which plan you chose. I suggest asking around to find the best & most trusted security provider in your specific area. HTH.

Thanks for your responses. This release is predictable/repetitive. I'm especially disappointed with the EP Little Ladybug collection. The reverse sides of 3/4 of the 12 papers are simple gingham (red/white, green/white, mint/white, black/white), stripes (red/white, green/white), & dots (red/black polka, red/black random, black/white random) in the same colors as the numerous holiday releases (including a half dozen from EP/CB) this summer. It seems a missed opportunity to offer classic patterns (besides 2 florals), such as diagonal plaid &/or basic stripe, in the popular red/black/white color palette that could be used to document anything (Christmas, Valentine's, school, sports teams, etc.).
