Thanks for your responses. While I like the color palettes, plaids, & stripes, I have similar in my existing inventory. Nothing is added to my wish list.

… The electrostatic mat of the Cameo 5 appears to be intended for more delicate materials, and it is sold separately, so that adds almost an extra $100 to the cost … I don’t really cut “delicate” materials. … As discussed in this thread, the Electrostatic Mat is not required. This optional accessory is an alternative to an adhesive mat only for cutting delicate materials. Therefore, users who don’t (often) cut thin materials won't need to spend the extra $100! … Cameo 4…I’m concerned they are going to discontinue it. It’s my understanding the Cameo 4 was discontinued upon release of the Cameo 5. Only remaining inventory of Cameo 4s at retailers is available.

Thanks for your responses. I'm not the target audience of American Crafts pattern paper collections & especially dislike their cheap acrylic stamp sets, ink cubes, die sets, overabundance of florals, color palettes, etc.

... The In Loving Memory line is pretty. Didn’t colorplay come out with a theme like this before? ... Per the Paper Pack image, Colorplay - Remembrance was released in 2017.

Thanks for your responses. I don't gravitate toward photorealistic &/or glossy papers, so nothing is added to my wish list. However, like many of you, I still appreciate the company's contribution to the industry with its unique themes, color palettes, etc.

Hey scrapbook companies... GIRLS like dinosaurs too. Girls like racing cars. Girls like to get dirty. Ugh. Anyways, no on all of them except the Dinosaur riding a skateboard sticker. Getting that for dd. Likewise, boys' interests & communications are not limited to dinosaurs, cars/trucks, dirt/mud, "cool dude," "awesome," etc. as most manufacturers'/brands' token "boy collection" released each year suggests. It seems obvious that offering non-stereotypically gendered collections would increase their appeal & usability since scrappers could customize the supplies to reflect the specific interests of their story/photo subjects (FTR: in no way, shape, or form should this be interpreted as a request for more florals!)

YES! i now need to order from scrapbook.com. i missed yesterday’s 8% off. it’s not much but would have covered sales tax. SB.com seems to offer 8% off every Monday & certain weekends. Its infrequent free shipping has recently been on $150+ (which IMHO should always be free with no to few exceptions). mrssch - Today’s discount is only 7% at SB.com. HTH

IMHO product names are not indiciative of "supplies clearly NOT designed by women." After all, Mintay Papers is a female-owned company based in Poland! Despite its meanings elsewhere, “Chippies" appears simply to be the company's cutesy (nick)name for its chipboard sheets (see all Mintay Chippies HERE). I agree with both pantsonfire that “Her” featuring heels/cosmetics/etc does not imply women are one-dimensional & joblackford that "Glam" would have been a more accurate & inclusive product name for this sheet of chipboard pieces. I wonder if they’ll come up with a Him collection—hammers, fishing poles, footballs, etc. No. The men get "chippies" for each of their hobbies and they aren't titled "him." They get football and camping. They get their specific interests. They're all on ACOT. I'm actually considering the camping one but they're 2mm thick and that's a lot for an album. I did only read the size of the alpha so I may be wrong. Note football & camping are not hobbies exclusive to men or even for all men (i.e. some children & adults of all genders are also interested in sports, outdoor activities, etc.). Mintay Chippies - Sport includes sporting equipment used by all genders, while Mintay Chippies - Outdoor offers camping/hiking gear & both female & male silhouettes. Per Mintay Chippies product descriptions, the assorted chipboard pieces are 1.55mm thick.

Per the Silhouette website, the Electrostatic Mat (available in black or white; sold separately) is an accessory - not necessary - only for cutting delicate materials with the Cameo 5. It "holds thin materials in place rather than rollers or a sticky cutting mat, so "thin materials will not tear or curl when removed." ETA: I haven't heard about this.. I'll have to google it. I'm happy with my Cameo 4, but to never have to buy a mat again would sway me! Silhouette's fall release is discussed (with links) here. Note the Electrostatic Mat, sold separately, is not a replacement for adhesive mats. It is an alternative to adhesive mats only when cutting delicate materials. An adhesive mat is still necessary for thick &/or textured materials. HTH

After comparing features, would you choose a Cameo 4 (on clearance) or a new Cameo 5 (included in the Silhouette's fall release discussed here), & why? TIA.

... I would buy the heck out of the Pickleball collection (if I played Pickleball) even if I don't like the colors and it will clash with all my photos because I don't have anything in that theme. ... Photoplay - Pickleball was released this summer (see this thread) & is still available at ACOT, SB.com, & probably other retailers. ...Sometimes I wonder if "making it work" and buying paper for the b-side, makes manufacturers think the actual theme is more popular than it actually is... Agreed. From manufacturers' perspective: If it isn't broke, don't fix it! Most manufacturers don't stray from the standard industry themes because they are proven sellers, since they’re often the only product available for customers to purchase. It's a vicious cycle...

Hope your husband, his colleagues, & the students have fun on Tuesday!
Non-scrapbook related, but I'm loving that basketball season has arrived (especially since fall is tardy, & it's still 80+ degrees outside)!

In general, I scrapbook from the perspective of the time the story/event happened (not in hindsight). Therefore, I would document her junior prom, include photos of her & her date, friends, group, invitation/tickets, etc., & factual information, such as the date, photo shoot/dinner/prom locations, high school name, prom theme, & names of everyone pictured. (I'd also create a separate layout about prom details, such as shopping, dress/shoes/jewelry, corsage/bouquet, hairstyle, & other services, if those were important to her.) Even if your daughter & her prom date were still dating or friends, I wouldn't include more information about him or their relationship/friendship (then or now) on a layout(s) about her junior prom; it would be all about her!

Is it possible that instead of creating for the “average” scrapbooker, that the thought process on creating a collection is on numbers? If you have to choose between releasing a Christmas collection or a pickleball collection, how many people would scrapbook Christmas versus how many would scrapbook pickleball. The manufacturer would want to make as much $$ as possible, so would go with the theme that has the biggest potential market. "Numbers" is the bottom line for every company/industry, including non-profit. The goal of for-profit companies/industries, such as papercrafting, is to maximize their "numbers" & defining + listening to their audience/end user should be the first step. Given new collections are released monthly in the papercrafting industry, established companies never have to choose between a Christmas or pickleball collection. For example, Photoplay released three collections - Pickleball (mini), Santa, Please Stop Here (holiday), & Travelogue (travel) - in June (see this thread). Since Photoplay routinely offers standard industry themes (e.g. seasons, holidays, baby, birthday) as well as mini-themes, such as non-mainstream sports (e.g. pickleball, rugby), current events (e.g. Barbie movie-inspired, inflation, pandemic), etc. to meet its customers needs, it seems the "numbers" for Pickleball & other non-standard industry themes must prove either profitable (since it's the only or one of a few manufacturers offering the theme) or a loss leader (i.e. product sold at a loss for the purpose of attracting customers) for the company.

Thanks for your responses. I purchased a Cameo 4 on clearance a couple months ago & am still debating whether to keep or donate it, since I'm uncertain whether I'll use it enough (primarily for backgrounds) to justify its storage space, learning curve, maintenance, etc.

Thanks for your responses. Like grammadee, I believe the industry's target audience & the "average scrapper" are somewhat different. Since the industry became theme-based ~15 years ago, IMHO its perpetual target audience appears to specifically be the 25-35 year old white, married, middle class, Morman mom who documents family vacations, holidays, weddings, & her children's baby, toddler, & elementary school years. These themes have been offered on a loop for over a decade with the same/similar color palettes, icons, & sentiments & few to no updates for aging of the target/her family, newer entrants/diversity, the decline of scrapbooking &/or societal changes due to technology/economy/pandemic/etc., &/or other factors. Big box stores & MLM companies sell these standard themes in their own brands to capture the "average scrapper" who, like caspad & Linda described, has historically scrapped socially at in-person crops & documents events with matching themed collections/supplies purchased at big box stores or via a MLM salesperson. Sadly, most of the non-big box/MLM companies have not attempted to discover the actual demographics or wants/needs of non-average scrappers (who have remained loyal through recession, pandemic, life stages, etc.).
