I do not think there is a snowballs chance that Biden/Harris could get re-elected.
He would stand a chance with a different VP.
Without a different VP, Robert Kennedy will take away too many votes.

I listen to more Audiobooks now. I still like Podcasts and just started Dear Alana. But the books have me hooked! I do a lot through my local library (FREE!) and I have an Audible account. I buy some and I also check out the ones that are free on Audible.
I do like Music sometimes when I am in the mood for it.

My HS was relatively small--110 in my graduating class. I had 23 kids in my class..most of them the same from Kindergarten all the way through. My kids had class sizes around 30-ish (not the same school system as mine). 110 would have been SO big! lol I pretty much know where all my classmates are and what they are doing. Small town, the information still flows today. Plus Facebook keeps me pretty updated. A couple deaths and suicides since we graduated over 40 years ago. Those hit pretty hard. I still get teary-eyed thinking about them.

He wants to take it down except for the main trunk (but that would be cut down to 30 feet or so) which I want to keep as a habitat for animals and birds. So you would keep 30 foot of trunk? Would it be dead, or would you let it regrow? Either way - I would encourage you to not do this. A dead 30' tree trunk isn't going to attract what you want in your yard. Plus it will rot and fall. Regrowth on a topped out tree of that size isn't pretty either. Maples tend to look good on the outside, but old ones have all sorts of issues on the inside. Take it down and grind out the stump. Or at least take it down to short as possible. We are in the process of taking one big old maple down right now. It has dead branches, it's splitting at the base, has bark issues, & ants. The arborist told us maples to to showcase issues on the outside only after there is significant damage inside, so it's likely worse than it even looks. Yep. Maples sometimes don't look too bad (big old ones) but once you start cutting, you see what a hot mess is going inside. My husband hates cutting maples, as they tend to snap back and that can be very dangerous.

We decided to pack pretty light to start with — essentials pretty much — and after she’s settled in I’ll go up in mid-September and go shopping for other conveniences and comforts. This is a great plan! If you are close enough that you can go visit after the initial whoop-de-doo has settled down, and then get the fun stuff, that is the best! I have found that about half the stuff that is a 'must have' for dorms, ends up just being in the way. It's hard when they are freshmen and excited about things though. The one essential that my kids loved was an USB extension cord. This made it easy to plug in phones and whatever else needed charging and not be tied right close to the wall. I got 6' extensions and 6' long multi end cords (so they could charge more than one device at a time). I give those as gifts now too - hopefully it isn't an outdated thing now!

The Iowa State Fair is the grandaddy of the Butter Cows! I have seen many! It was fun to watch Duffy Lyon work on the sculptures. Also, free hard boiled eggs on a stick right next to the butter cow, from the Iowa Egg Council. LOL

I like the Walmart ones. Cheap (and yes cheaper quality too). Time & Tru or Terra & Sky for the fluffy girls. They have Hanes women's long sleeve too.
I like them because they are thin. They wash nice, and they are cheap. I wear them during harvest, and usually catch them on a fence or get grease/oil on them if I am helping wrench. So I don't want something that costs a lot. I toss a hoodie over them when it gets colder. I also bleach the ever living daylights out of my sinks when I clean, so I like to wear cheap shirts, because they usually have a bleach spot from cleaning.
My bleach cleaning must have rubbed off on my girls. I was cleaning out my sink and countertop after fixing supper one night, and my son-in-law laughed and said "Smells like home"...

I understand the want, but don't do it! Just order something pre-made and have some cold bottled water for them!

Oh WOW! I have had a hawk drop a snake by me, but I was inside a grain truck. I was watching it fly over and plop down came the snake. I was moving down the road, so I didn't see what happened after that. But I was totally freaked out by it. I can't image it actually falling ON me!
I've watched eagles haul some big fish out of the river. That's pretty cool to see. But I've also seen them grab a farm kittens and bunnies, and that is not pleasant at all.

On a normal day -nothing.
I don't know if this counts as self-protection, as I am not worried about boogey men, but I do carry a small spade or a very heavy livestock cane when I am going to be in with cattle. The cane is used to sort cattle and also to prop me up once in a while. I did have to use it once to beat a very angry cow back. I also sometimes use the small spade for the same reason. I carry the spade in my Gator to dig weeds in pastures and help me check hot fence in the pastures.
As a rule, I never carry a fire arm for protection. Sometimes I have one along for a varmint that needs taken care off. I did carry my rifle when we knew a cougar was in our area, but honestly I was so freaked out, that I doubt I could have taken a shot. I would just skedaddle the heck out of there if I saw it. I'd rather take a picture of it. I would only shoot it, if I saw it actively hunting our calves.
If there is a stranger out on our road, I will usually take a photo of their license plate as I go by. There were a couple guys out walking one day, and that slightly freaked me out, so I texted my husband a photo of them. He came out and talked to them. They had spent the night in a county park down the road from us and were "walking back to town" - so DH offered them a ride in the back of his pickup to get them out of the neighborhood.

I said to DH that we should be planning to contribute to a possible future wedding for DS. DH seems to think that parents of the groom don't need to pay anything. I disagree. We paid for our daughters wedding, and the grooms parents paid for the open bar. My daughter bought her own dress and paid for the photographer - I wanted to do that, but she had it paid for before I had a chance. The wedding was not terribly expensive - A full catered meal for 225 plus tips was under 2K .. I love the area we live in! LOL

I have never had to gate check my carry-on. Do you get your bag back when you deplane or do you have to go to baggage claim? If you have a connecting flight, do you get your carry-on back when you deplane or does the airline transfer the gate checked bags to the next airplane? It depends. When gate checking, it seems about half the time you get the bags back when you deplane and about half the time at baggage claim. However, I am pretty sure that in all cases, if you have a connecting flight, it will automatically go through to the next flight and not be returned to you until the end of the final flight. That obviously wouldn't work for skip lagging. haven’t come across hate checking before - I’m guessing that’s for smaller airlines/planes? It was a large plane, United. Flights were sold out and the planes were FULL. If you were not in an early boarding group, your carry on was gate checked, and I think it was all the way through, and was not waiting at the first stop. There was a TON of gate checked carry-on's on the flights I took (to California and back to Omaha this spring). I had never seen it before, but I haven't flown in about 5 years. I was surprised at how many had to check their bags. They kept calling for people to Gate Check, quite a while before boarding, then during boarding - it was mandatory, so it slowed things down. I had checked my baggage through, so I only had a small purse with me going on board. Gate check was free.

My main concern would be luggage. You, of course, could not check a bag. And carryon's seem to get gate checked so much now. I don't fly much, but I did fly some this spring, and every flight was gate checking carry-on's. The chances of having to gate check your bag would really mess up the plan on this one.
But I guess if you only have your personal bag (purse), and not a carry on or checked bag, I would do it. I fly so seldom and usually never on the same airline, that miles, etc. really have no significance to me, if they pulled that.

I fluctuate on this one. I'm not a Jason Aldean fan, or a huge fan of this type of music in general. I don't like Toby Keith 'boot up your ss" songs either. I also thing CardiB's WAP and some other rap songs that are incredibly racist and hate filled are terrible too. I would probably be considered far left, by most of my friends and neighbors, lol - but I feel like I am a down the center line moderate. But I am from a small town, all my life. There are things that resonate. Cheryl Crow is from a town of 10,000. That's 5 times as large as the town I live near, which is 4 times larger than the town I grew up in. We are not going to put up with some of what we see happening in cities. If someone comes to my house/farm with the intent to harm or thieve, there are consequences. There was a couple gals that had a pill problem, and they were teaming up to enter houses and rifle through everyone's medicine cabinet. One gal would call the other when she could see that a whole family was at a ball game or out too eat, so the other gal could go in and look for pills. They know who had knee surgery or cancer and would have pills. They would bypass jewelry and cash and only wanted the pills. They were good, and this went on for a long time. Finally someone got a pretty good look at the van one of them drove on security video (this was a couple years ago, so the cameras were not as good as now, and not everyone had a ring doorbell). Once the basic description of the van was out there - the farmers and ranchers kept an eye out. The local law said they had it under control, but nothing was ever done. One guy saw her pull into a farm she shouldn't have been at. Busted. But it took people who had been ripped off and had some security videos they could post online before the Law would step in. Seriously. They said there was nothing they could do, since they hadn't witnessed her doing it. But once that 'small town' posse kicked in they had to deal with her. So many people posted their images while they were breaking into their houses, onto Facebook, the Law had to do something. Same for a local guy getting a bunch of copper wire stolen from his business during the middle of the DAY! He saw the video, knew where the tweaker lived and went and had a chat. He was definitely armed, but he didn't draw down. But he had the deputies hot footing it out there, when before they wouldn't respond. My neighbor died and her house was ransacked. So many things stolen. Does the Sheriff know who did it. Yes. Can her family get anything back? No. They don't have solid proof it was the person that did it. Ha. This guy is a part of the same crowd that steals everything around here. Nothing NOTHNG happens with law enforcement. They simply say "we can't do anything at this time". Someone else got broke into and a 4 wheeler was stolen. You know what they did. They didn't call the sheriff. They went to this @ssholes house and stole their own property back. Not alone, but with some backup. Told the dude he better not ever step foot on their property again, or he would never be found. That is what happens in a small town now. There isn't one single racial implication behind any of it.

Yellowstone in three days is tough. We did Yellowstone in a day. LOL I told my husband I didn't think it was possible, but none the less, we did it. We don't dilly-dally around! We came in from Cody, Wyoming. We spend a day in Cody and really enjoyed that. Then a day through Yellowstone and went out the West Yellowstone entrance and spend the night in West Yellowstone and putzed around there the next morning through lunch. Then we worked our way down to Jackson/Jackson Hole and spent a couple days there. Our favorite thing was finding the free gondola up to the top of Jackson Hole where there was a fabulous restaurant where we had appetizers and live music outdoors. After a couple days in Jackson, we had enough fun and drove 17 hours straight home. LOL What a trip!

There were a couple big camps in Iowa. They housed both German and Japanese soldiers. The prisoners were used for farm labor, which was in very short supply at the time.

Has anyone ordered from them? What is the quality like? Any issues with returning things that don’t fit? I have ordered this summer and was not unhappy. MEASURE yourself. Look at the size chart for each item. If you normally wear a certain size, I can guarantee it will not be that size in Bloomchic - but I do feel like it is pretty true to size if you measure yourself. I normally wear a 2x-3x on tops, and 4x to 5x was a better fit for me. 5x was bit too big, and I only ordered one shirt in that size, just to check out how it fit. I returned one shirt, and it was easy peasy. Printed return label, stuck it on the bag and took to Post Office. If your hung up on only wearing a certain size, you have to let that go. Don't go by what they size it as - go by your measurements. Quality is decent for the price. I have worn and washed the shirts several times, and they are holding up nicely. They are 'fast fashion' , so the quality isn't high end. But for what the price is, I would say it's better than I expected. My order came fairly fast. I will order again. Clothes were fun and something that I don't see around here.

Kids in Iowa can get their license at age 14.5 - which is a school permit only - directly to and from school on the most direct routes, with no stops. They can get their 'learner's permit' on their 14th birthday, and trust me, we were up at the crack of dawn and at the DMV for that coveted card! They did take Driver's Ed though our school district the summer between 8th grade and freshman year. It wasn't required, but it heavily discounted our insurance. And it was good to have a different instructor than good old Ma But my kids drove long before that. That is the advantage of growing up on the farm. The were driving something from a very early age. Moving pickups and machinery as soon as they could reach the pedals. Most of this is off road or gravel road only. I didn't let them drive on the highway alone before they had their legal school permit. But my kids could back up trailers to put them away before they were in middle school. That's the difference of living on a farm vs. more populated areas though. There just isn't the opportunities to drive in urban areas. They helped pickup bales by driving the pickup and 5th wheel trailer. They'd pull up to a bale (we bale big bales only) and their Dad would load it on the trailer with a tractor. Then to the next bale, until the trailer was full. Then Dad hopped in the passenger seat and they drove to where we store hay, and he would unload them. Low gear and know how to use the brake. They started this at 10 or 11, depending how long their legs were. When we got the learners permits at 14, I never drove anywhere for a long time. They took me everywhere and had to drive in every condition. Day, night, rain, snow, ice. I waited until they were about 15 before I mustered up the courage to drive in a bigger city (Des Moines, lol) - and we went on a slow Sunday afternoon to start with there. I just can't imagine being 18 and never driven. My kid were on their second car by then! The stories I hear now that they are grown! LOL - getting a car stuck in the creek and getting it out before Mom & Dad caught wind of it...

People grasping this movie and "saving our children" but refuse to help the people targeted ie: immigrants and LGBTQIA+ are part of the problem. It's just another pass for the Keyboard_Warriors to get angry at something they don't actually intend to fix when it makes them uncomfortable. Amen! This is SO well said! I am glad that Carlee has been found and with her family, regardless of what the situation is, or is not. To be in fear for a family member has to be one of the worst things imaginable. In the end, if she is safe - that is all that matters.

I hope all is above board, but from the very moment I heard about this I though it sounded very suspicious.
Everyone around me is going NUTS about 'trafficking' since the move "Sound of Freedom" is playing in the theater hear. I haven't seen the movie, but they say it is very powerful. And all the conspiracy theory that "they" whoever "they" might be - didn't want the movie released. Oh boy....
I know that trafficking is real, and the though of young people and children involved is so heartbreaking. My (limited) research shows that a lot, if not almost all, cases are linked to a family member or trusted person being involved it this happening. Which is tragic! But the amount of people I know that are convinced a trafficking ring is waiting outside of Walmart for them is astonishing. Their cars are being marked with a zip tie, or a dollar bill in their windshield wiper. Or a "creepy guy" is following them. Every time it has been proven to be absolutely false. The person is either attention seeking, or just plain coo-coo.
I have to say, I believe it could happen to anyone, anywhere. But use that fear to increase your situational awareness.

I wash sheets in HOT water. I know the last couple sets I have are supposed to be cold/gentle. But I think sheets need hot water. The ones have now are Tencel sheets and we love them, but they do say cold water. I still use hot. I have two sets that I rotate. What's weird is one color has outlasted the other. The fitted sheet in one color bit the dust and got some holes in it. I replaced with just a fitted sheet in the same type of fabric, but from a different seller. Even though they were same brand/same seller off Amazon - there really seemed to be a difference in how they felt and how they held up, between the colors. The dark grey are going strong. The light green crapped out fairly fast. Go figure.

I have a Ford Expedition with the third row. I have had it forever, and was my main car to lug kids/family around when everyone was at home. The 3rd row worked, but it was not super comfy. We did a couple longish vacations with it, and swapped out the person who had to ride in the back. Two in the very back was plenty, but it would hold 3 (uncomfortably) And this is a big vehicle.
I still have the old girl, but all the backseats are folded down and she is my beater. LOL Once in a while, she gets pressed into hauling people, but she mostly hauls farm stuff. My kids are grown and there is never a need for us to have that many seats. The ones who have kids, want to drive their own vehicles with car seats in them. We just meet up at the final destination.
I drive a 4 door pickup now, which has a nice big backseat. I can haul 5 people comfortably. That's enough.
