I've had a couple of people say that they just throw the summons away when they get it in the mail. Move on and forget about it. Yea - not here. Iowa. They will hound you until you respond. I have served twice, and been called a couple times. Have received notification a couple times that I was not called in for. I believe that you should serve. Just think about it - if you had to have a jury trial, who do you want on the jury? Do I ever want to do it again. No. It is almost impossible for me to have a day away now also. I have livestock that require chores AM and PM. The last time I told them this, and they balked. I said fine - if I am selected I will come to the best of my ability, but if I have a cow calving, I won't be there. Send a deputy, I could use the help. Excused. LOL I know everyone here. From the County Attorney to the deputies. So it is uncomfortable to not at least try to be civil and decent about it.

Any tips on how to get through this? It is tough. It is almost a mourning process. You have dedicated yourself to her since she was born, it is not easy to just let go. Snapchat or any other communication like that is amazing. I love Snapchat because it is so quick an easy. My kids and I share a lot of fun quick chat, pics, or vids that way. My kids also shared their location with me on Snapchat, but I did NOT abuse that. I never questioned what they were doing by seeing their location. NEVER. They did hit me up for stuff when they saw me at the grocery store though. LOL Please do not post on social media about how sad you are. Don't make continuous post about how hard it is going to be and how much you will miss them. Don't make a single post about that. But do vent your feelings here! It is so good to release that feeling - but do it somewhere like here. Many of us have gone through the same thing! It really helps to just talk to someone, even if it is here, and not a person right in front of you. As mentioned above - look at it as how well you have prepared her to fly! It won't be easy for her either, but it will be harder if she knows you are feeling so sad too. You can be her support, because the homesickness will hit her hard too. Knowing that Mom wants her home will make it too easy to quit and give up. Don't let that happen!

My mailbox probably would have been empty, anyway. I didn't make much of an impact in school. Nope. Small school, but never heard of it. It sounds kind of neat - but the ones who would not get anything would be tough to see, and it would happen. Grad parties are HUGE here. All the personal notes would be brought or sent to that. Our school has even stopped flower/gift deliveries to students. It was becoming very problematic and distracting especially at Valentine's Day. So they just said no more deliveries to students. We do have a Senior Awards night. All the Seniors and their parents go to the school. Awards an scholarships are handed out. A Baccalaureate service is held right before that, but not everyone attends that.

Moving cows to a new pasture. When will that happen. Today. Sometime. Probably. But maybe not. But probably. So be ready. Life on the ranch. Never put anything in the oven that requires watching on days like today.

I always get my phone from Apple. My local cell service store is beyond frustrating. I am better off doing it myself.
That said - I had to just make sure I bought a phone from Apple that was compatible with my carrier. So do make sure you have that particular phone.
In order to activate the phone, I had to call my cellular carrier and have them activate it. Even though I changed the SIM card - I still had to have them activate my phone. It was a very simple process, but I had to call back a week later because calls were not coming in. That could have just been a fluke. Everything else was working.
The transfer of data from one phone to the other was a snap. As the other said - just sit them next to each other and follow the process. Going iPhone to iPhone is so easy.

I have all my emergency alerts turned off. They just blast me out of bed during the middle of the night.
Not once when an actual emergency has directly affected me has an alert gone off. I have been in the direct path of 3 tornadoes. Nothing.
If Des Moines, which is 2 hours away, might get a cloud going over - everything goes off. I did have my location services on.
We are in an area that is poorly covered by NWS or any of the TV weather services. I do not rely on them.
When we had terrible weather coming in Mid December - I found a guy on TikTok who is a meteorologist who covered what was coming at me 100 times better than anything else that is supposed be be keeping me safe. He isn't from my state.
I don't want Amber alerts or anything going off on my phone.

Any other recommendations of good things you've watched on Apple TV+? The Morning Show was really good. It hooked me in. I am waiting for Season 2, if it ever happens!

My question in this whole dustup ---
Why is being called GI Jane II that awful? Being compared to a totally beautiful, badass strong woman is not the worst thing that could be said about her. She is strong and beautiful - and I think really full of herself. Which would be normal for someone who is as successful and confident as she is.
If I had to go without hair, I would look like Curly from the Stooges. She looks amazing and she knows it.

I just changed all my FB and Insta passwords yesterday.
I have been getting the DM's that are like "guess who died" or something else shocking. I can usually see a preview without opening, but I opened one yesterday morning.
It seems like anyone who has opened those all of a sudden get hacked, and start sending out those damn messages - so I changed everything to get ahead of it.
I also keep my contacts private - that way I can't get Cloned on FB. I hate that ... it's so simple to just keep your friends list private so they can't send out that crap.

I think so many people go anosmic or “nose blind” to their own fragrance and feel like if they can’t smell it, no one else can either. So you get people wearing waaaaay to much perfume. Apparently if you apply perfume close to your nose, like behind your ears, your neck, etc you’re likely to become anosmic quite quickly. You explain that so well! Nose Blind can go for more than fragrances. I can smell mustiness when I go into one of my friends house, and I have asked her if she has a wet basement or something that causes it (we are good enough we can ask things like that!) and she can't smell it at all. I can smell it on her clothes, even when she isn't in her home. I can't smell the 'cattle' smell in my house - but I know it has to be there somewhat. I can smell it at the door my DH comes in, which is shut off from the rest of the house, but I am sure it has be be apparent to someone who has a heightened sense of smell. I can smell "hog" in my friends houses that have hogs. It is usually most pronounced at the door they use for coming in the house. Most farmhouses have a formal door and a 'mud' door. I can smell cat or dog in my friends houses that have pets. They keep their houses clean - but I can totally smell it when I first enter. I lose trace of it after I have been in there for a little bit though. But anyone who says their pets don't smell - they do! LOL I do like perfume. I try to not drench in it. I like to spray in the air in front of me and walk through the droplets as they fall. I am tempted to use more -but I stop at that.

I don't have great luck with the Command hooks on my outdoor vinyl siding. I have tried to use them for hanging wreaths, and they don't last too long. It might be the weight of the wreath, but they are not super heavy ones, and I have tried using more than one hook, to take the load better. I have tried in both the front of my house - which is open to the elements, and on my porch which is more sheltered. Neither spot worked for wreaths. I have used the small hooks to put mini LED lights around the inside of porch and those did work fine. I found these siding hooks and have used them for years with great luck. You slip the clip into the siding seam - where a section is. *oof -- sorry for image size. You can find them on Amazon: Vinyl Siding Hook

One thing I’d be worried about is how awful I’d feel if I lost it. One of my friends has a necklace with the pendant being a thumbprint of her late sibling. It is so lovely, but it came off the chain and she lost it. She was heartbroken. Her daughter in law contacted the funeral home and they were able to make her another one from the copy of the mold they had kept. That was so wonderful - and how is that for love from a daughter in law! ♥

That had to be the biggest WTF just happened moment ever! Lord that would be scary. The seat belt made a difference there! A fractured back is scary though. Glad they went back and had it checked out. I want to be a storm chaser in the US in my next lifetime Don't come to my neighborhood please. I hate storm chasers with a vengeance. They tear around hell for leather and will certainly kill someone, someday. I have seen them barreling down country roads with tall corn - and that WILL end up killing someone, because every section has a cross roads and when the corn is tall, they are 100% blind intersections with no stops signs. You have to know to slow roll and look at every single mile intersection. If I see them on a gravel road, I'll park so they can't get past me until they slow down. Everyone I have encountered is a pure asshole. I know there are genuine weather guys out there -but the 'storm chasers'. Nope. Family doesn't have medical insurance because Texas. Not just Texas. I know a lot of families that struggle with insurance. I hope the go fund me helps them and that they can get insurance. That sucks.

That bread is fine. That is how it looks when it comes out of the bakery.
Does anyone notice that most bread doesn't hardly mold anymore.
I have bread and buns that get pretty ancient, and I very seldom see mold anymore!
Fresh baked bread gets it fast though.

I am rural, so no cable option. The phone company does not send internet out as far as I live, so my options have always been limited. I used satellite internet for a while - do NOT do this. It is awful.
I now have a semi-local company that covers my area with a radio type signal. It is a 'line of sight' type service. The signal gets sent from their offices quite a ways north of me an bounces through various stations until it gets to the closest town to me. I have line of sight to the grain elevator and the signal is sent from on top of that to a dish in my yard.
Unlimited data and it is fairly fast (for what we can normally get) and the service is 100% impeccable. They are top notch!
$100/month.

what DD tells me is called a side by side (I believe it's like an ATV for 4 people). Yes - something like a Gator, which is what I use. They can seat 2 to 6 people, depending on the size - seated side by side. They can be very dangerous. We purposely have the lower powered Gators, simply because the larger ones are more deadly. The top speed in ours is about 30 MPH. The next level up can go 45 to 50 mph. I fully believe if we had the faster one, my son would be dead. He had a very bad accident with the one he was using when he was 16. I hope we never do. They are very much not our kind of people.

They are loads of fun to get! I was so pleased when someone sent me one for my birthday one. It was super neat! One of my friends has a subscription to Boques - which is fresh flowers. Occasionally I get a box with flowers from her. She just randomly sends the box to a different friend each month. When you get something like that, when you least expect it - WOW!

Pigs can be mean assholes. LOL
My husband raised hogs from when he was a youngster until he went off to college. He made a sizeable amount of money that gave him a good start in life - but he said he would never raise hogs again!
Pig farming is vastly different now, than when he was young. But we have only cattle. Which is also not a cake walk. But still better than dealing with SOWS!

I have an Echo Show 8. It is not the simplest thing to operate. If she is not tech savvy, I would not use a Show as a communication device.
It's great for watching Netflix, Prime, etc. I love putting pictures on it to play as a side show. You can use it as your Alexa. I never use it for communication though.
Does she have any kind of cell phone?
I would go with something on the cell phone or an iPad for the easiest ways to video chat.
SnapChat video calls are SUPER easy.

Absolutely! The meme posted earlier sounds spot on and is very amusing. Maybe not so for those dealing with the meth taking, knife carrying side of the badger family. I will never look at a Badger (American) the same! This is so apt! As I said, I keep a big space between me and them. I have really only encountered them at a distance - usually across a creek. They like to dig their dens into the creek or river banks around here. The speed at which they can dig is ferocious! When they are running it looks like a high speed road kill moving. They are very squat and wide. I am out in the great wild outdoors every day.. I have seen 2 live badgers and the one dead one - so encounters are rare, but amazing. I keep a spotting scope in my Gator to look for fun critters. It's amazing how they blend in!

Badger orgy for the win! I always laugh at this meme, but now I am thinking differently about British badgers. This explains a lot. I am thinking why would anyone WANT a badger near them. I have only seen the American badger, and they are tough ombres that I want NOTHING to do with! We had one bend open the bars of a live trap and release itself! One got ran over by our house (wasn't smushed up) , and my DH said let's go look at it "You will never get to see one this close up"... he picked it up with his shovel to get a closer look and the TICKS that started releasing off that thing were horrifying! He tossed it in the ditch as fast as he could. Lordy! Even he was skeeved out by that one. There had to be hundreds of ticks releasing off.

When DS was in K and the usual bus route to our house was blocked by a fire truck, he was gave the driver alternate directions. It was a substitute driver who didn't know the neighborhood and he was blown away. Any sub drivers would ask my kids for directions. I am not totally sure why they picked my kids - but they knew the route. It was a country route and they rode it from kindergarten until the oldest turned 14 and could drive! My kids all can get around pretty good, and were just at the beginning of GPS navigation. I rely heavily on my phone telling me where to go when I go to the 'big city'. I'm lost. LOL I never use it when I am out in the country though - it is often VERY wrong in the directions.

I do like the app where you can just scan the barcode of an item as you finish it and it will automatically add it to your cart. It also tells you which items you have bought before and how many times. This is why I want it. But for the cost of it - it just isn't worth it. I can not get delivery, as I live 30 miles from my closest Walmart. I don't really do the online shopping thing, to pick up (and why would I pay for that!). I do order a few things from Walmart. com - but it is free if you go over $35 - so I just wait for that total to hit before I order. I just think scanning stuff would make checkout so much faster. We have the self checkouts now, but they are the tiny ones with no belt or space to unload your cart and a very small space to put full bags. They are all crammed together in a square space so people are jammed up together trying to do the self checkout. It's a super pain to do if you are by yourself. Easier if you have someone scanning and someone bagging to keep space open.

We did get some solar panels to make a portable power source for several wells that we need to use to water cows in pastures. It, so far, has been successful, but not without issues. The solar panels charge a battery to use during dark, but when we have several days of low/no sunshine, we had to end up running a gas generator to power everything. But overall it has been a successful venture.
I know this is different than what you are looking into - but I wanted to mention the tax benefits. We were able to use the purchase of the solar panels for a great tax benefit, and that paid for a large chunk of the cost of the setup.

They all use the same data and the same radar (in the US, anyway).
I use the RadarPro app, and I have paid for it. IMO, it is the best live radar view.
I also use the app of a retired area meteorologist. I can easily find the wind and the predicted wind and wind direction, which is very important for us. We need to know wind speed and direction in the winter - to know how to close up barns. And in the spring wind speed/direction is important when we are spraying herbicide.
I am after more of the data, less of the 'prediction' -as no one really gets that right.
When we had the big weather outbreak in December with high winds and tornados ripping across the Plains - I followed a guy on TikTok, who also is on Twitter, and probably all socials... Ryan Hall. He was GREAT and I am keeping him as my go-to to watch during live weather events. I live 2 hours from any metro... so the TV weather/meteorologist really don't care about my area. Oh they care AFTER we have been hit by tornadoes, etc... they can't wait to get here and sensationalize it... but before hand... nope.
But check out Ryan Hall (RyanHallYall) for any live coverage. He is great. During the storms, he was pinpointing things in my area that were very helpful!
