I carry a travel journal and write in it each night...one thing I did during a Mediterranean cruise, is each stop I took a pic of my shoe on a different stop each day...hmmmmm that sounded odd...like "this is where I landed"...anyways, when I looked at the pictures later it also helped me remember it was a new day/ a new country. I also scrapbooked these pics as the title page for each stop.

I went to 3 different high schools. My Dad was an IBM programmer...I call myself an "IBM brat"
there was Houston (where I really grew up)
Rockville, MD
and
San Jose, CA (he worked at the 'think tank') where I graduated.
I was actually fine with it...wasnt one who HAD to have the same friends. Enjoyed each area of the country, except MD in the winter. Me and snow and ice did not get along.

This is much more common than I thought, we are also in this situation. We have walked away from my youngest sister, who has gotten into a lifestyle of drugs and victimhood, and was constantly manipulating us. My other sister was the first to say "to h*ll with it, if they were not sisters she would not be friends with her"...and cut all ties. I think the final straw for her was that the youngest sister was driving her kids while high on prescription pain killers.
My mom eventually started to 'hide' from youngest, because of the constant manipulation for money.
I was last, I thought I could be 'Switzerland'. But a nasty email she sent to my family took care of that. Luckily my kids were grown, did not believe a word of the email and simply told me about it. The last time she visited, she spent the first part of the week not sleeping (she did reorganize my pantry and linen closet during the night) and constantly stepping outside (we have a chime alarm for the door). She disabled that alarm. Then the rest of the week was spent sleeping and eating. We figure she ran out of her drugs and was 'crashing'.
There is so much more, from her reporting us to APS for 'abusing' our mother (the investigation totally exonerated us, and came down on her)...to her accusing her teenage son of assault, so she can collect 'victim' pay.
I don't see any chance of reconciliation, and in many ways it breaks my heart. I don't even see any of us attending each other's funerals. Luckily, my other sister and I 'kept' youngest sister's ex-husband...so we do still connect with our nephew.

morning, since entering my 50's I don't sleep in anyways...6:30 is sleeping in...so, getting it done
also find that is true with scrapbooking..I can scrapbook all day, but need to start in the morning. If I try to start in the afternoon...I just have no creative flow.

One word, Envious. Yup.
Last year we rescued 6 kittens who were dumped on our road out here in the country. 2 were taken by a neighbor, I got to raise the other 4...it was the best 2 months of my life, even though I had no sleep, feedings every 2 hours. They destroyed my guest room...a rug had to be tossed...BUT I still miss them every day. IF dh would allow it, I would spend the rest of my life fostering kittens.

Naughty cats are a lot of fun, aren't they?

I also do the toothpaste in nail holes...also put toothpaste on a zit.
This may be a re-use, but used dryer sheets, I will put one in a crusty casserole dish over night, then the next morning it is easy to wipe clean

yup, we do enjoy entertaining...had to stop when my mom lived with us as her bedroom window was next to the back patio. Now that she has moved out, we do find we entertain at least once a month. If Family counts, then, yeah, pretty much weekly.
It is all very casual, and asking people to bring something is not an issue, neither is using paper plates!

Our scrapbook group had a 'craft room crawl', it was styled like a progressive dinner.
there were 6 of us, 5 homes...we started at one home and made our way to the final home, where wine/drinks/cupcakes were served.
Each home provided appetizers/finger foods and we 'toured' each other's crafting space.
We started at 5pm...and went home @10:30...had a great time just getting together and talking and seeing each other's rooms and organization.

I am in this boat also. in 2009 I made 'lifestyle changes' and lost @40 lbs took a little over a year. Then I learned I needed a hysterectomy, so I went on Jenny Craig....I was so afraid of regaining the weight. When I followed Jenny, I did lose...made it to the 50 lb mark, even after my hysterectomy. Then the yo-yo started. Today, I have regained 30 lbs...only about 20 lbs from my highest weight! (and that is scary)
So many years of Jenny, I cannot even look at the food much less eat it. The frozen, processed food is just so unappealing right now. But the portions are so right.
So I've dropped it. The thing is I KNOW it works, when I followed it, it worked.
So I am back to Sparkpeople's tracking, motivation...and hopefully I can get back on track.
To start, DH and I are on a 2 week vegetarian dinner 'kick-off ', I know when I did it in 2009, my body felt wonderful...everything just worked better.
sigh, I've got such a 'thing' for ice cream....luckily I do like skinny cow, so I can keep it around 120 calories instead of 300
My new mantra....more veggies, more movement.
now, a question, I have been walking 3 to 5 days a week for over a year now...a good 2 miles or so, but am gaining. Is my body just 'used' to this and I need to do something different...??

just this weekend, my old guy, Percy (he's 14) was playing with a soft red ball toy. I did make me happy, as I almost lost him last Sept when he had a bladder infection that went bad real fast.

We have a small fake leather ottoman, had a big wooden one, but saw my grandbaby fall backward and almost hit her head, decided at that moment to go for something soft... just in case.
I keep a tray to hold remotes and a couple of books on it...the cats LOVE it and have already decorated it with scratch marks. siiiiigh (good thing it was a Craigslist find)

I think I was about that age when I read Anne of a Thousand Days..of course this was in the early 70's when books were not written with graphic detail.
For me, it would depend on when the book was written and the author. And if the book was written with children in mind.
has he looked at The War Horse? I understand it started out a children's book. A look at World War 1 thru the eyes of the horse.
also..
The Eagle by Rosemary Sutcliff, if he has any interest in Roman armies

I made 3 for my dd's wedding..one for her new mil was a mini album, so completely matching. The one for dd, color coordinated, believe it was a Stampin Up paper pack was my predominant, one of the french inspired lines with shades of blue and yellow...and used the lyrics from the song she walked to, a line per page.
The one for me to keep is page by page, whatever I feel inspired by. And it is the most 'fun'.
Her wedding was @7 years ago, and I am almost finished with mine. ha!

and
there is one for an aspirin, where the dad pressure washes the patio and everything goes flying and gets destroyed.

Earlier this week I got to babysit my granddaughters, ages 5 and 1. I was feeding them dinner, chili, when one year old would take her chili stained hands and put them across her head and cheeks. I did laugh. Started calling her 'chili-hair'.
5 year old told me, "Grammy, you should not laugh, she will do it again. You should do this", and she acted out looking down at her lap and putting her hand across her mouth.

funny you should mention favorite souvenirs, I was just wishing I had bought more of the street art during my trip to Italy. I had the 2 I bought (Florence and Venice) framed at Michaels and they are my absolute favorite. Though sometimes I think that they are massed produced art, and the guy just sits in front of one with a brush to make me think he is painting it. Did I see that in a movie?
When dd went for a semester, a few kids did have problems with theft and such. One thing they learned, the hard way, was to not use freestanding ATM's, guess those are easy to get numbers from and the kids who used one in Germany had their accounts cleaned out. So, I always look for ATM's that are built into banks.
Another friend of dd's had her purse swiped from under her chair in a restaurant. They found the purse in a trash can, but emptied of all valuables.
On a train, dd's purse was almost taken. She and a group of girls were sleeping in a sleep compartment, when someone walked in and took dd's purse, it was right next to her head. She was in the back of the compartment and luckily one of the other girls woke up and caught him.
A friend had his backpack taken while he was asked to look at a map....so, be careful. Maybe have your dd practice 'situational awareness'.
I did both the security belt and a cross body bag during my trip. And bags were never draped over chairs or put under them. I was on a cruise and able to leave the bulk of my valuables in the safe in the cabin. Just took out the cash needed for the day.
It's been a few years, but make sure there is a 'buddy system' in place. When dd was in Harrods, there was a bomb threat, and kids were scattered ... luckily her dance teacher had a very strict buddy/adult system and all the girls were fine. Scared but fine.
reading this, I know it sounds a bit pessemistic, but I'm not saying that at all...even with these things, the trips were still 'trips of a lifetime' and we all can't wait to be able to go again.
