Mom's chemo treatments threw a kink in my plans for stocking up on freezer meals. Instead of cooking ahead for my house, I'm doing it for her and Dad so it's one less thing for them to worry about.
On the other hand, DH and I have been systematically trying to declutter one room at a time. When we take all our prepped materials back to our offices next week, that will take care of the last piles of books/papers sitting around. I'm also working on doing one load of laundry per day, and we've begun consciously scheduling meals and chores. Since DH and I share the cooking, it's not a huge problem IF we plan meals earlier. DS is doing his part by keeping up with his chore chart. At 16, he's old enough to take over things DH and I have always done: cleaning his own bathroom, bedroom, and man cave; mowing the lawn; cooking one meal a week. Fingers crossed that he has enough time when his homework and play practices kick in.

Although he was testing below a kindergarten level when we adopted him halfway througH 1st grade, DS is now a straight A student, member of National Honor Society and taking all AP, honors, or dual enrollment classes. More importantly, he is a caring, wonderful kid with a good head on his shoulders who thinks for himself. He is also a Third degree black belt In Tae Kwan Do and a talented actor. We are so proud.

I apvant stand the sfeanpming (jaysus, what the hell happens when i post under the influence)
Let's try one more time, slowly. I can't stand the screaming beyotches. As soon as it comes on, I switch the channel. I have hard time giving any credibility to Jenny McCarthy and Barbara WaWa is long past her expiration date. She was a pioneer once, but she is no longer keeping up with the times.
And I like Whoopi as a comedian, but i couldn't care less about her political opinions.

Lotion first, ALWAYS. then underwear, pants or skirt, bra, deodorant, top. Socks only if I'm working out and then only just before I put on my sneakers on the way out the door.

No, but one of our younger union members has suggested that our faculty union should get an account and use it to tweet out alerts during bargaining sessions for the faculty who can't be there. Seems like a good idea, so I think I'm soon going to be tweeting.
Just what I need. Something else keeping me tied to an electronic device.

A 15-year-old interested in porn? Say it ain't so!
Seriously, that mother has a teenager with raging hormones that she can't figure out how to deal with, so she's just abdicating responsibility. It's not the polices job to control your son's TV watching, lady. It's yours. As for the whole, her two-year-old daughter saw it . . . First, I'm wondering what you're trying to cover up by putting that on record. Second, I'm even more concerned about your complete lack of common sense. The girl isn't going to be permanently traumatized by watching a couple of minutes of porn which she probably didn't understand.

My grandparents bought me bonds for birthdays and Christmas until I went off to college. I cashed them in and paid for my trip to Europe before I graduated. It was a painless way to save!
If there is nothing you or the kids need them for right now, I'd just out them away and wait.

While I'm fascinated by a couple of earlier eras (War of the Roses and Tudor England), I don't think I actually lived then. But previous lives might explain why I'm phobic about having my blood drawn. Maybe a vampire sucked me dry.

I only like one of the three top looks (blue-haired woman's). And how do things that look like gilded dryer hoses make an attractive dress? That outfit looks like a costume for low budget science fiction flick, not a real dress.

We got one two weeks ago and have used it several times already, for fish, chicken breasts, sausage, pancakes. We like how easy it is to use and clean up.

I hope I'm wrong, but both my personal experience and those of all the divorced women I know agree. "I love you, but I'm not in love with you" is cheating man speak for "I'm out the door, but still feeling a little bit guilty for what I'm doing." If he refuses couples counseling, that would be your confirmation that he's completely finished with the marriage.
You are getting great advice from the others. Protect yourself and take care of yourself.
And I am so sorry that you are having to suffer this.

If the definition of a career is that I take it home with me, then I have a career. If the definition of career is wanting to move up the corporate ladder, then I have a job because I have NO desire to move out of teaching into management, especially under my current administration.
I love what I do and consider it a calling. On the other hand, if I won the lottery, I would never set foot in a classroom again--at least at the front of the classroom, that is. I could be a permanent student, just for fun.

I've always said, heard, and read it as "buck naked" although some of my students have written it as "butt naked." Of course, those are the same students who take things for "granite" and "defiantly" believe they should have an A in the class.
Sometimes, I have to just laugh.

At home, DH is a huge list-maker. Every weekend, he sits down and plans out dinners for the week, chores to be done each day, and any errands to take care of---so, he's my organizer there.
At work, since I teach, I have a natural schedule: from X to Y, I'm physically in this class; from Y to Z, I'm online in that class; from Z to A, I have OPA (other professional activities), so that is the only time that I worry about physically scheduling. I keep a planner with all meetings, due dates for essays to be graded, projects to complete for the union, calls to make each day. It's the only way I can keep track of what has to be done.

Sometimes, yes, but lately it seems that I have so many topics that I'm interested in that I'm getting scattered. I read part of a book, pick up another and read part . . . . and never finish anything.
FLDS is one of the topics that I'm interested in, too! Any recommendations for good books on their . . . um . . . . "religion"?

I just don't get how Amanda's dress won last week. That wasn't a dress! And it certainly wasn't anything that I believe anyone would ever wear. In fact, if someone walked by me wearing all those stringy things draped over duct tape, I'd assume "crazy homeless woman," not "Wow--how awesome."
I liked the two guys with Angela; their creations worked together and looked like clothes. Angela's . . meh. And she annoys the crap out of me. For that matter, so does Sandhja (whatever). Her winning dress the first week appeared to be falling apart, and the one this week just looked slapped together and sloppy; however, it didn't bother me that Carrie went home as she was just obnoxious.
Honestly, I've never cared much for Nina Garcia or her opinions. She could go away! Bring back Michael Kors.

I also see it as shilling religion, and bringing a kid along is a very calculated ploy to get unsuspecting victims to open the door. Whether it's a new trend or not, though, I don't know. Luckily, we haven't had any show up in quite a while.
Anyone else also have the fundamentalist shouters who show up at busy intersections with their placards and scream Bible verses at the stopped cars? We get whole families, all the men in long sleeves and ties, the women in Sunday dresses, the kids miserable in Sunday best as well, taking over all four corners and just shouting. They never actually try to TALK to anyone. In Florida in the summer, they're doing this in 90+ heat with 90+ humidity, courting heat stroke. While I don't think dragging the kids door to door is abuse, the corner shouting nonsense certainly comes much closer.

Needles In general, but absolutely, someone has to come with me because I might pass out, hyperventilating and cold sweat, ringing in my ears, squeamish is too mild a word phobic about having blood drawn. I just had the best stick of my life last week, and even so, I had sweated through my shirt, numb fingers, and ringing ears all in the space of the two minutes it took the tech to set up and do the draw.
Snakes still give me nightmares. Just ask DH; he's been awakened several times by me thrashing around muttering about them.

My goal for the week is four days of cardio, keep my sodium under 1800 mg, and work on adding more veggies to my diet. My ultimate goal is to lose 30 pounds: so far, I've lost 4 (I'm shooting for 1/2 pound per week), but it's really difficult when I have so much grading to do. I'm stuck at a computer for hours! I'm almost looking forward to fall classes starting, since I have more face-to-face ones coming up which keep me on my feet and moving.

On the teacher thread several made mention of the incident from Two Peas where someone contacted an employer about someone posting on the board when they should have been working. I am just letting everyone know that if you ever see me posting during work hours on a work day, then I am either home sick or it is a holiday. I do not do anything non-work related on my work computer. Me too...I think many teachers forget that their employer OWNS the computer and the server. 2peas was actually blocked at my work as are all message boards. I think as far as the Mrs. Tyler issue----that was just f-ed up. I'm constantly having to remind faculty of that and that administration can read any of our email, especially when they email complaining of something work related. Like y'all, I don't post from work. Even if I wanted to, I don't have the time!

The only odd combos are A-1 sauce in baked potatoes and that I have to mix tartar sauce with cocktail sauce to dip all my fried seafood in--as well as French fries. Things that I like that others find odd: fried bologna, fried spam, fried chicken livers and gizzards, sardines with hot sauce. My mother used to make me gag by eating scrambled egg sandwiches on white bread slathered with mayo and topped with sliced tomato. If she was really feeling "kuntry" she would crumble up cornbread in buttermilk.

As Florida residents, we find it cheaper to buy annual passes for both Disney and Universal. As others have mentioned, if you can wait until off season or until the new HP area has been opened for a while, the crowds will taper off, making it easier to get more rides in per day.

Community college level Composition, literature, mythology, and humanities in Florida. This will be my 20th year teaching full time, but I spent several years as an adjunct as well-- and I part of my teaching was at my college's alternative high school.
I'm really not sure why my college president would care if I'm posting on a message board, especially on my own time during the summer. It certainly doesn't violate anything in our contract.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand, the school should have been very explicit in its precamp info about the dress code no-no's if it wasn't going to allow such clothing. Since it wasn't, it should never have changed after the camp started.
On the other hand, neither the shorts or the top would meet dress code requirements at any area school, so I would never have let my daughter build an entire casual wardrobe around those types of items. Yes, they are cute, but this is a school-type setting. While the dancers' bodies are toned enough to pull them off, that isn't the point, is it? What is appropriate when representing an organization is.
Now, the counselor's condescension is a WHOLE different issue!
