I decided to check my area since I had never looked into it after I moved to my new house a few years ago. There are only a handful within a 3-mile radius, BUT - one is a woman, who as a former teacher at 29 had sex with her 15 year old student! This happened in 2010, about 200 miles away. She spent 1 year in prison, and now lives in a *very* nice neighborhood here in my town. I was definitely not expecting to find that in my search!

Well, the Affordable Care Act prohibits insurers from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, so that's a load of horseshit. It did say a person who is 60 with 100,000 income would be at about 1076 monthly but with sliding scale would drop to 776 a month but have high co pays and deductible. So that may have priced her out. But really who knows. Does previous health history impact the cost a person pays?

I did not charge my daughter. She lived at home until she was 26, and she moved out when she bought her own house. She did pay her car payment, car insurance, and her half of the cell phone bill. I didn't need her help to pay for any household bills and I didn't want her to pay to live at home. She saved up on her own for her down payment for her house. If she ever needs to move back home, barring any change in my circumstances, I won't charge her rent then either.

We've driven from MS to Tampa, to Orlando, to Miami (each separately) several times. It's not my favorite, I'd rather fly, but I've done it. Is your vehicle comfortable? Would there be drivers switching out or one person driving the entire trip? I'd make sure to have plenty of battery chargers for phones, etc. so everyone could have entertainment.

I need to sign up for rakuttun or whatever it is. Then of course I would have to remember to use it. Here's my referral code if you'd like to use it to sign up. Then you can install the extension on your browser and it'll automatically pop up when you're shopping to let you know you can earn cash back. (Once you spend $30 in the first 90 days you'll get $30 back.) www.rakuten.com/r/RHONDA2731?eeid=45830

Watch the ads, and buy on sale. I use higher priced cosmetics and skin care. I wait for the coupons and sales, then I stock up. I try to never pay full price. Use store coupons. Use free resources.....like the Library. I read ebooks on the Library website for free. I agree with these. I rarely buy any makeup or skincare at full price, only when I absolutely have to. I subscribe to the email lists of the brands I use so I know when they're having good sales and then buy my staples. Every year for Black Friday my skincare brand always does 50% off so I stock up for the year. Another thing is to use Rakuten, Honey, or other coupon searcher - I have their extensions installed on my browser so it's easy to see if any retailer has an available discount code. I listen to audiobooks and I love using libraries as one of my sources. I have my local library plus got free cards from a couple of other ones so I can use their catalogs too. There's also Hoopla which some libraries offer - it has instant access to books without having to wait in line to borrow and is also free. Again, I have my library and a couple of others I use. And although it's a subscription, probably my most favorite app is Everand (formally Scribd). I pay $8.99/mo and it works basically like a Netflix for books. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

We pretty much stopped ordering delivery for food.. although I only used pizza delivery.. never used Uber Eats or the other services.. but just getting pizza delivered is insane. Even my son who likes his deliveries have stopped. The last time I attempted to order some pizza for 3 of us was over $30!! For CHEAP pizza. I stopped in my tracks and said nope. Another thing is when we would get fast food, Taco Bell used to be our place to get a bunch of tacos cheap.. not anymore.. another $25 for basically nothing for 3 people. If we get fast food.. I get a kids meal.. or just a burger or nuggets.. no fries, maybe a drink depending if we have something at home or if running around. I admit I HATE cooking.. despise it... so I'm trying to be better.. but usually I just opt for easy peasy meals or I know I will burn out quick if I start trying to do the all out cooking and try to make $2 meals. I will fail. I am working on cutting out my Starbucks starting next week. Going to switch to just plain iced tea. (not a coffee drinker.. I love Starbucks Chi) I never get pizza delivered, although I would love to sometimes. I just can't justify the expense. I live under 5 minutes away from the store. I can pick up a pizza for $12ish, but having the same pizza delivered is pushing $25 when I add in a tip - and it's just for me.

mom2rjcr . I know you’re in a hurry to sell because your DH Has been recently diagnosed with cancer and you are worried about how to pay for his treatments because he doesn’t have insurance correct? Before you put your house on the market and I agree with everybody else taking a loan out is not the smart thing to do at all right now, Talk to a social worker at the hospital. There are lots of programs and lots of foundations that help pay for cancer treatment. Take a deep breath and talk to someone at the hospital. I would never rent a section 8 renters never never never never. you also need to find a different realtor because that guy is full of crap THIS! I didn't realize your husband had cancer. Yes, talk to the social worker! A friend just had her chemo meds covered 100% through one of the available programs.

I don't know if I remember it happening, but I definitely remember the movie and then learning more about it as I got older.
Also, I often think of those Heaven's Gate people who died thinking they were going to hitch a ride to Heaven with a UFO trailing the Hale-Bopp comet. That was so weird.

I would be concerned about the realtor telling you that your large home in a desirable neighborhood near a good school would be on the market "a while" This part was so confusing to me. I would replace the water heater; painting the inside would go a long way to making everything look fresh; and you could always take down the broken blinds?

My understanding is that yes, it was her military issue weapon. She is military police. Her ex, my daughter's current, should know to call her commanding officer. He was in the military too. That's where they met, I believe. He now works for the post office. Works 60-70 hours a week, thus rarely home. I won't call CPS for one reason only. I had it done to me. Twice. And it almost destroyed me. My daughter is so fragile... we know there is an age when a child can decide where to live for themselves. Other daughter and I are looking into this. It might be as young as 10. Granddaughter is miserable at both mother's and father's houses... hoping to get her here for spring break... get some more insight. She is incredibly mature. I need to talk to her. She is safer at her father's, but it mentally kills her there. Daughter is really capable of only parenting one child at a time effectively. I am in an awful position. If I call CPS, daughter will know it was me. Even if it wasn't, she'd always think it was. Damn it. That's why I was pushing hard for B to be inpatient... get an assessment. Please don't judge me harshly... I had doctors try to take my younger daughter away from me... I will never recover from that... it changed me forever... Fuck that. You're putting yourself and your daughter - both adults - over the well-being of children. You know a child is being abused and if you don't report it, you're just as complicit as your daughter.

I finished four the last couple of weeks of the year with mixed results.
The Last List of Mabel Beaumont by Laura Parson The list he left had just one item on it. Or, at least, it did at first… Mabel Beaumont’s husband Arthur loved lists. He’d leave them for her everywhere. ‘Remember: eggs, butter, sugar’. ‘I love you: today, tomorrow, always’. But now Arthur is gone. He died: softly, gently, not making a fuss. But he’s still left her a list. This one has just one item on it though: ‘Find D’. Mabel feels sure she knows what it means. She must track down her best friend Dot, who she hasn’t seen since the fateful day she left more than sixty years ago. It seems impossible. She doesn’t even know if Dot’s still alive. Also, every person Mabel talks to seems to need help first, with missing husbands, daughters, parents. Mabel finds her list is just getting longer, and she’s still no closer to finding Dot. What she doesn’t know is that her list isn’t just about finding her old friend. And that if she can admit the secrets of the past, maybe she could even find happiness again… A completely heartbreaking, beautiful, uplifting story, guaranteed to make you smile but also make you cry. Perfect for fans of My Name is Ove, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and The Keeper of Stories. *Meh... I didn't love it. 3 stars
Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson Darley, the eldest daughter in the well-connected, old money Stockton family, followed her heart, trading her job and her inheritance for motherhood but giving up far too much in the process; Sasha, a middle-class New England girl, has married into the Brooklyn Heights family, and finds herself cast as the arriviste outsider; and Georgiana, the baby of the family, has fallen in love with someone she can’t have and must decide what kind of person she wants to be. Shot through with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is an addictive, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, lovable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a deliciously funny, sharply observed debut of family, love, and class. *I'm mad at myself for not reading this sooner. I really liked it and didn't want the book to end. 5 stars
The Maid by Nita Prose *So many have read this and loved it and while I liked the character Molly Gray, I found the story to be very Hallmark Movie-ish. I gave it 3 weak stars.
Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paige Toon When Wren realizes her fiancé is in love with someone else, she thinks her heart will never recover. On the other side of the world, Anders lost his wife four years ago and is still struggling to move on.Wren hopes that spending the summer with her dad and step-family on their farm in Indiana will help her to heal. There, amid the cornfields and fireflies, she and Anders cross paths and their worlds are turned upside-down again. But Wren doesn't know that Anders is harboring a secret, and if he acts on any feelings he has for Wren it will have serious fall-out for everyone. Walking away would hurt Wren more than she can imagine. But, knowing the truth, how can she possibly stay? *From Hallmark to Lifetime Movie Network! I did like this one more than The Maid and found the story to be a little more unique. It's not a must-read but it was enjoyable enough. 3.5 stars

This happened in dh's family. There are 6 biological children and one unofficial child who they took in around age 17. They called each other brother/sister. She called dh's parents "mom" and "dad". Her husband and children were involved in all family activities/holidays. Dh was executor of the MIL's will. It was to be split 6 ways. The bonus adult child was left out after being around for 25+ years. Dh gathered the brothers/sisters minus T and decided to take a vote. All the siblings voted "no" to letting T have money. Dh was floored since many of them were quite close to T. Once the home was sold and the estate was settled, T clued into what had happened. No one told her anything. Dh isn't really close to T because he'd already moved out of town when she moved into his parent's home but the rest of them were there. She unfollowed everyone on FB (including the kids) because she was so angry. She never spoke to us again. SIL sent her a Christmas card once and T sent it back stating she didn't want to receive anything again. Dh's one brother went over to T's home and gave her a $10,000 cheque. She cashed the cheque and never spoke to him again. Funny thing....T friended one brother on FB who is actually an as* and voted to give her nothing. He probably lied to her to smooth things over. Do what you are comfortable doing but realize there may be consequences. This hurts my heart. People really show you who they are when it comes to money.

Yesterday was nice and semi-warm; I went shopping and mountain biking. I spent more time shopping than I intended so the temperature had dropped by the time I got on my bike and it was a quite chilly ride. I was hoping today would be cloudy so I could have cozy day at home, but nope - sun is out shining! Maybe I'll close the blinds and pretend

I finished the audio of Tom Lake by Ann Patchett and loved it. It was narrated by Meryl Streep. This was my first book by this author and I really liked her writing style. I loved the slow reveal of information through the book. I was torn between 4 and 5 stars but ultimately gave it one of my rare 5 stars as I'm still thinking about it several days later. You should listen to The Dutch House! It was narrated by Tom Hanks and was my first Ann Patchett novel. I loved it.

Funny how different news sources frame the story. The NY Times makes it seem like she bought it because she thought it was valuable:
"After doing a lap around the store, she returned to the bottle-shaped vase with red and green swirls. She noticed a small “M” on the bottom that she believed stood for Murano, an island off Venice and the historical home of Italian glassware.
She had a feeling it might be worth something.
“I had a sense that it might be a $1,000 or $2,000 piece,” she said, adding, “but I had no clue how good it actually was until I did a little bit more research.”

Was Sassafrass and Altoona the same story? I seem to remember them being two different situations...but don't ask for any facts because... aging memory! Sass did fake her death, though. I do remember that. I thought it was two different situations as well. I think someone else was threatening to off themselves and the Altoona police were called. I thought Sassafrass was outed by internet sluething and finding her phone number.

Lysol boy and Sidney were two different stories. Lysol boy sprayed Lysol all over a leather couch and slid down it. Sidney was catfishing from a bored LSS owner. Sassafrass, IIRC, said she was going to hurt herself and Peas did a welfare check with the Altoona Police and she was fine. Lord, I've been around here forever! Sassafrass actually got her husband to say she was dead when someone called to check on her, right? Yes!

I love being handsfree and having something to carry just the essentials. I need to carry my insulin pump, phone, and snacks at all times and this is the perfect bag for it - especially when walking the dog or workout out at the gym. That makes sense. I usually just shove stuff in my pockets but I don't have to carry a pump or snacks.
I don't want things stuffed in my pockets, or I don't have pockets.
I love mine - it's perfect for my little wallet, key fob, air pods, lipstick/balm, pen, & migraine meds. I can also fit my phone in if I want. Even better (for me), it keeps me from gathering junk and stuffing it in a purse.

I don't eat at Olive Garden, but I just looked up their menu online - at the location near me, the "Create Your Own Pasta" is $12.99; Fettuccine Alfredo is $16.29. I don't think those prices are out of line for that type of restaurant?

Silk pillowcase and silk scrunchies - they're best for her hair.
Pay for a housecleaning service to come a few times to do the bathrooms, change the beds. I would've loved for someone to do that for me.

The dogs and I dropped it off to the correct house when we took our walk. I do the same thing. There are people in my neighborhood though who will post in our FB group that they have a package for someone who is literally next door or across the street to them, and say "It's on my front porch!"
