Our family tradition is odd to many but is an old PA Dutch method of making stuffing, it's fried in butter on top of the stove. My grandmother always added potatoes after it was fried but we like it without. We literally make two huge crock pots of it every Thanksgiving. I am still trying to master baking it in the oven for DH but I can't seem to get the amount of moisture right. So does anyone else fry theirs? Do you stuff the bird or only bake it? What is your favorite add in?

I checked the ingredients and the bullion I use for the gravy is not gluten free so I will have to make her a separate gravy using cornstarch. I forgot to check the turkey. I forgot she can have the potatoes and the margarine is lactose free/gluten free already. My sister is making a ton of stuffing which is the center of our meal and since she is making a huge amount I won't dare ask her to buy special bread. We have candied sweet potatoes which she can have. i guess other than the stuffing she is ok with our regulars with minor tweaks. I already planned to make her things first, keep them separate and let her be served first. I love the brownie mix idea I know I just saw it at the market. Unfortunately we don't have a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's anywhere nearby. Thanks for the input, I just needed to know I didn't overlook anything! Good grief I hope she likes what I'm making or I will feel just awful. She is so far from home so I want her to enjoy herself.

DD just asked if she could invite a friend for holiday dinner but then tells me she has celiac! I am already cooking for lactose-free diets. I know to be extra careful in my preparation to prevent cross contamination (I'm making the turkey a day ahead to make sure). What I need now are do's and don'ts and some recipes for a few sides she can eat that won't mean buying a lot of special ingredients just for one person. Anyone have a good recipe?

DD asked for a camera that takes great video, she needs one for video audition submissions and has been borrowing cameras to do so. Her iphone isn't good enough quality. I'm thinking an SLR camera? She already has a good mic. We are hoping to keep it under $400. Anyone have a suggestion?

The college students model for free and in return they get all shots to use on their professional websites They are theater students so free pics are great.

Forgive me but I'm bragging again, DD photo was selected for a second book cover! I bought 2 copies of the first book but I doubt I can do that for the second since it's a french romance/mystery book. It's so cool to think people are browsing the book store shelves and looking at her photos. This was from her 2nd photo shoot with this photographer. Too bad it's not paid work. Attachments:

The larger cutting area was the big draw. At the time I used to mainly do 8.5 x 11 layouts so the robo was fine but for travel and Christmas albums I do 12 x 12. I have the original c100 robo (blue lid) and although I can adjust the blade using different colored caps it never did a good job with thick card stock even using multiple passes. I would like to cut some heavier materials but I don't know if that is possible with the cameo.

I'm getting back into scrapping after a few year break (life got in the way) and I want to dust off the ol' craft robo. Finding that I now have to use the silhouette studio software I have started watching tutorials and commented to my DH that I really like how much easier it is to understand that the old version. To my surprise DH said if I wanted to get the silhouette then do so! I was having a hard time justifying a new machine since I hadn't used the robo much because of the learning curve. So convince me why I should/should not upgrade, what can the silhouette do that the robo couldn't? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have been away from scrapping for a while and was just working on a craft project in which I wanted to use some Heidi Swapp ghost snowflakes. I realized I don't have many left and wondered if it's possible to make my own using my craft robo (after I dust the cobwebs off it). Has anyone tried making their own ghost letters/shapes? How did you do it and what material did you use?

I have been trying to find out if Blue Bonnet Margarine Lactose Free sticks have been discontinued or if our store just stopped carrying them. These are great because I can actually bake for my lactose-free family members using all my original recipes. I cook with it when ever they are home too. I am praying another store chain will start carrying this product. I've emailed both the grocery store and the manufacturer itself and now crossing my fingers waiting for a response. So what product do you miss that you can't find anymore?
I miss the Dawn Power Dissolver spray for the baked on gunk on my dishes, i bought some through Amazon but haven't seen it in stores anymore. I also miss Grape Swedish Fish which I know they stopped making.

My kids have come home with many stories about things the teachers have said but the worst was when a substitute teacher lost it with the 4th grade class and THREW her shoe at a student! Needless to say said substitute was no longer welcome in the school district!

I worked with a pretty young lady named Vixen! She got so many jokes and odd looks from people that I bet she asked herself often "what were my parents thinking"!

Thanks for all the interest in DD photo, I knew as Peas you would be interested in some great photography.
DD is a theater major and has never modeled before. She was asked by a friend if she wanted to take part in the shoot. The photographer uses students from the university as models. which they do for free. In turn he gives them the proofs to use for their professional websites. If one of his photos is selected for a book cover he then sends the student a mock up of the cover to also use on their websites. Many of her friends have also had pics that were made into covers but some get so edited that it may be hard to tell who the model is.
Stephen usually starts with a concept before the shoot. DD first shoot was for her and her friend to portray sisters/friends/lovers. Her second shoot (no pics have been posted from this shoot yet) was in an old barn and in the woods, concept was fear, escape, alien abduction...no beauty shots, he wanted tension. He does use smoke bombs/smoke machines and he provides the costumes. You can see more of his work on his facebook page.
I do plan to purchase at least one copy of the book. Thankfully it is in English! It would be great if we could get the author to sign the book.

I'm gathering all her proofs that he sent her and want to make a layout for her album with her relating all the funny stories about what actually happened during the photo shoots. She loves posing for Stephen, they have so much fun. Please check out his site, he takes beautiful photos.

Let's start off by making it perfectly clear...I am NOT a painter. I am both brush and roller challenged. My DH usually assigns me the taping and painting the inside of closets. This time he doesn't have time to help paint DD room that has to be finished in 1 week so it falls on me. I have to paint over bright green and blue semi gloss walls. DD chose a brown color. I know I need a really good primer that will stick, but I haven't a clue what brand of paint to buy. I was reading reviews online but they were not much help. DH only advice was do not buy Sherwin Williams because he disliked working with that paint. Please tell me which paint brands you liked/disliked and why and if you used 1 or 2 coats. Oh, I'm planning to use eggshell finish. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I do not get out in the sun much and I don't always eat a well balanced diet so I take a gummy multi vitamin (the only ones that don't give me stomach cramps), Vit D and probiotics and I have seen an overall improvement in my health especially since taking the Vit D. Despite taking these vitamins I still picked up every cold/illness going around which is bad since I work in a school. I added Olive Leaf Extract to my list and I haven't gotten sick once this year. I know it's not a vitamin but it really works. I have in the past tried a combination of C, E, calcium and reservatrol that did wonders for easing the pain and appearance of my varicose veins. Since then I am convinced of the benefits of vitamins. I think everyone is different so you can't compare one person to another, some are blessed with a great natural immune system or are better able to absorb and use nutrients than another person. What doesn't work for one person may work great for another.

For us that decision was made for me, we had been married for 3 years when I found out I was pregnant. I was on the pill at the time and 32. 13 months later the same thing happened with DD2! God must have known what he was doing because if it was up to me I would have stopped after DD1, she was a difficult child and I definitely needed the maturity of being older to deal with her, I couldn't have handled it in my 20's. So for us waiting until our thirties and having them close together was perfect. I have two lovely girls who are starting their careers and I am not longing for grandbabies for another 10 years.

Remember that the buses only run from resort to park, never resort to resort. If you aren't in a hurry you just pick the bus to the park closest to the hotel you want to go, then hop off and right on the bus to the hotel of your choice. Last trip we didn't bother with a car and it was great, we weren't planning on going off property that trip.

Last trip we went to Sanaa at Kidani Village the week before Christmas, very easy to get early seating midweek the day of. It was great, we got to wander out on the porches to watch all the animals for probably an hour before dinner, 'sthen were seated right at the windows for dinner. The food was not as adventuresome as Boma was so everyone liked it. Must get the bread sampler it's so much fun. The whole night was so relaxing and the staff was so friendly and answered a million questions from the kids. I think we saw way more animals than on the safari ride at AK, we sure took a ton of pictures.
We love touring the various hotels and used WDW transportation to do it. Boardwalk is also nice and DTD. When the kids were little we did Ohanas. Sitting on the beach for the Electrical Water Parade is one of their fondest memories.

This may sound silly but when I get those foot or leg cramps that send me flying out of bed at night I pinch the skin on my upper lip just below my nose and amazingly the cramp disappears! But seriously I agree with with going to the dr before you fly home it may be more than a leg cramp. For me I needed vitamin E to end the leg cramp cycle.

Love this game, it's become a must at family gatherings. It also has made getting to know grown kids significant others a lot easier/more fun. My DDs decided to add a twist to the game and turned it into charades! Now THAT is hysterical.

OMG you sound just like me! My slump started when my parents passed (both in a 2 year span). It's been three years and I am finally getting motivated to start scrapping again. I haven't picked up a book in the last 6 months. If my family doesn't push me to go places I don't go, and forget about wanting to take pictures. I just feel so tired, uninterested and overwhelmed all the time.
I do suffer from hypothyroidism and SAD but this has been worse than anything I would normally experience. My turnaround has been when I started increasing my vitamin D intake. I'm noticing I no longer feel as tired, achy and unfocused. This past week I have had much more motivation and energy too. I actually have been sorting through my scrapping supplies and photo albums, getting excited about working on a project! You may want to ask your doctor to do some tests? It would be nice to rule vitamin D, iron and thyroid out as possible causes. A good dose of Spring wouldn't hurt either.

I realized that I will try most foods once but goeduck doesn't sound very appetizing. I have finally tasted a cheese grits that I could eat and that was in Maryland.
I grew up on PA Dutch food and love shoofly pie and the likes but I draw the line at souse (pickled pigs feet in gelatin which is topped with a bit of vinegar). I love scrapple fried crispy served with maple syrup although everyone I know eats it with ketchup. My DH is polish so I have eaten piles of stuffed cabbages and peirogies but I can't stomach fried cabbage with noodles. The smell just turns me off. I have noticed that at his family parties (DH is from the coal region) no one will eat a jello type salad.
As previous posters mentioned Flitch sounds very much like potatoe candy. My mom made this for Christmas, the dough is made of powdered sugar and potatoes then spread with peanutbutter and rolled up like a pinwheel and sliced thin. I used to love it but now find it very sweet.

Our sleeper sofa mattress has finally worn out but I haven't a clue on what kind of replacement to get or where to buy one, can anyone help me out? Tell me about mattresses you have slept on and liked or disliked. Ours is a coil type that until recently our guests have liked. I have only ever slept on futons. I don't care for memory foam but since I won't be sleeping on it, I want to get something my guests will find comfortable. Can these mattresses be bought in a mattress store or furniture store or only on line?
