I am through my daughter. We had the great fortune to attend the Eras Tour in LA (night 1) as the guest of my sister in law. We were on the floor in the 8th row! We are definitely in the Eras Tour film in the aerial shots. We had from December to August to learn every song from the concert. My daughter gave me a crash course in all things Taylor Swift. I knew her bigger songs but I really didn't know much about her personally.
Well, let me tell you, there are few people in this industry as smart, kind, creative and talented as Taylor Swift. Her lyrics are amazing and so insightful and fun. I am happy she is getting the accolades she deserves. We are also in favor of her relationship with Travis Kelce. Even my 80 year old mom is a fan now!
I love that Taylor is something my daughter and I can share and talk about and make tons of friendship bracelets while listening to her music. It has definitely bonded us.

Yes, that is the way we always do it. I never stay. I like to be out of their way.

I would love hotel recs for Victoria, BC. Myself and 2 friends plan to visit in late September. What about someplace that has a suite? We each like our own bed. Are there VRBOs?
What activities do you recommend?

I live in proximity to at least 4 Buc-ee's and we NEVER park at the pump and then go shopping. We have quickly used the bathroom and come back but if we are buying something inside, we park in the parking lot. The Parking lots are big enough that I have never seen them completely full.
My parents live about 15 minutes away from the new CO one and they went at 6am last week to see it. They love a good breakfast taco and Buc-ee's has plenty!

I am not sure if our totality is affected, but our weather (we are in Collin County, TX) is supposed to be cloudy and rainy. I am so disappointed! My sister is coming from CO and she is considering not coming now. It is so hard to predict if we will be able to see or not.

We were just in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area last week for spring break. The Great Smoky Mountains and Dollywood were bucket list destinations for me and I LOVED both! Dollywood was such a treat and we would definitely return if given the opportunity. The whole park is very well themed, clean and friendly. We spent the whole day there.
The main road through Pigeon Forge itself is totally skippable though. Think of the most tacky family activities, multiply by 100 and you get Pigeon Forge.
Gatlinburg was not much better. Streets were so congested with cars and pedestrians and the town is just a bunch of crazy family activities, t-shirt shops and themed restaurants.
However, the GSMNP was spectacular and not to be missed. We did a couple of very easy hikes and drove to Cades Cove. So beautiful!!

I despise politics and games posts. Dinner posts are never read by me either.
I will read cultural posts, organizing, travel, real estate and breaking news.

For the past several years, I have looked so tired in photos - like exhausted! I will turn 54 this year. I have always had deep set, hooded eye lids and they are just getting heavier. To make matters worse, one is hanging lower than the other and it is really bugging me. My dermatologist says that upper eyelid surgery is my only hope to solve the problem.
I am hoping at some point it will be a medical necessity if it interferes with my sight. Then insurance should cover most of the cost.
Have you had this surgery done? Were you happy with the results? Did insurance cover the cost? What was the recovery like? How did you pick a surgeon?

Catholics are by definition most certainly Christian. Now whether they all act like they are is an entirely separate discussion.
I am a faithful cradle Catholic who is attends Sunday Mass each week. Imagine my great surprise when we moved from Wisconsin to Arkansas and I met Christians who absolutely believed that Catholics are NOT Christians! I'm sorry, what? Where do you think Christianity came from? Catholic means "universal" - all Christian religions come from the one true church - Catholicism! So, I soon learned that me being a practicing Catholic meant that I need to be saved from my "crazy" ideas.
My good friend has a niece who attends a very small Bible college in Alabama and she is asking for money to go on a mission trip to Ireland to try and convert Catholics to Christianity. According to the email, only 4% of Ireland is Christian. Good luck with that sweet girl. Can you imagine how her efforts are going to be received?

We are in the DFW area so we will have total coverage area. My sister and her husband are coming from CO to see it. I have viewing glasses in my Amazon cart. I pray we have clear weather!
My son goes to college in Cincinnati and they will have very near total coverage too. I need to order him and his roommates glasses too.

I am a former teacher and have a masters in education. I am dipping my toe back into education after being out for the last 21 years - left to raise my family. I have decided to go back by way of substituting.
I feel VERY rusty and out of touch with all the changes in the past 2 decades - mainly technology in the classroom and student behavior.
I plan to stick with my neighborhood school for now and try to only accept assignments in grades 1-5 to start.
If you have recent sub experience, what does your "bag of tricks" include and what are your tips to start the day off right and keep the kids engaged? My region does offer substitute teaching classes which intend to take, but in the meantime I could use ALL the advice.
TIA!

In the early days of the pandemic lock-down, my family began to watch an episode of Brooklyn 99 each evening together. The laughter from that show got us through some pretty tough days. Captain Holt was such a great character on that show. Such a loss.

We are hosting 13 people for 6 days over Christmas and I am looking for a drink that I can make in a large batch so that I am not playing bartender all night. We tend to like drinks with a vodka or champagne base. I do love sangria - anyone have a holiday themed sangria? Or anything else I can make at the beginning of the day or evening?

I am extremely sentimental, so that would be hard for me. I know at our high school, reminders for high school senior portraits are numerous and very public. If your daughter chose to ignore the deadline, I guess it is not very important to her. I wouldn't bother with an ad at this point.

I love to make a peppermint ice cream dessert - Oreo crust in 9x13 pan, peppermint ice cream spread on top of Oreos, thin layer of chocolate syrup, freeze for a few hours, then top with Cool Whip and sprinkle crushed Oreos and/or crushed candy canes on top.

I know - horrible name, but from what I have seen on TikTok, it looks like a yummy snack to have on hand during the holidays. It involves several types of crackers, ranch seasoning and other spices and flavored popcorn oil mixed up and left to sit for a few days.
If you have made them, do you have a recipe to share? Also, I really don't want to make them in a garbage bag, do you have another container you use?
TIA!

We are having a holiday gift exchange and I need to bring a favorite item with a budget of $25. I am drawing a blank. If you have participated in something like this, what items have you given or received that were memorable and useful?

Our high school has a 4H type club and accepts pumpkins for their animals and last year, we gave to a local goat farmer who asked for donations. She gave us some soap made from goat milk in return.

I when I saw Bono in NYC last May, we scanned our tickets from our phone and then had to hand over phones, smart watches, Fitbits, etc and it was all put into a locked bag that we held. If we needed to use our phone, we had to take it out of the theater to a person who would unlock it for us and then re-lock when we went back in. That was the most strict enforcement I have experienced.

I truly don't know anyplace affordable in the Denver area, but my in-laws lived in Littleton for about 20 years and it was a nice area. My sister currently lives in Fort Collins and they are looking to move closer to Boulder. They can't find any place under $1 million to $1.5 million that doesn't need serious renovations.
