When I first started practicing law over 30 years ago, I represented a bank in a home foreclosure. The man who owned the home had died. His body was found in the home. It was so badly decayed, the authorities could not determine a cause of death. They suspected that a vagrant who was found living in the house with the dead body, had killed the homeowner. However, since the body was so badly decomposed that even a cause of death could not be established, it was impossible to prove the vagrant murdered the homeowner. The vagrant was charged with the lesser charge of improper disposal of a dead body.

Not only did she waste law enforcement resources and take money from the victimâs compensation fund, but she also falsely claimed two Hispanic women abducted her. It seems like the white women who make up these crimes always dream up perpetrators who are non-white. (Susan Smith, who drowned her own children and Jennifer Wilbanks, the runaway bride come to mind).

I know it has its place, but be very careful when using anti-anxiety medications for the first time when flying. When my daughter was getting her master's degree in data science, she interned in the safety department of a major airline. She said the majority of the passenger incidents involved anti-anxiety medications. In many cases the subject reported using the anti-anxiety medication for the first time and mixing it w/ alcohol.

My 52 year old sister died on Tuesday from Stage IV colon cancer. She turned 50 in December 2019 and had a colonoscopy scheduled for April 2020. It was cancelled due to the pandemic. She never followed up (we have no family history). And now she's gone. It was 26 days from diagnosis to death. Please don't put the colonoscopy off. I'm so sorry about your sister.

I had one about six months ago.
My had husband a routine colonoscopy which, to everyoneâs surprise, detected cancer. (He was fairly young and had no symptoms). He ended up having part of his colon removed. He didnât have to have chemo or radiation. He has had no problems since this all happened about ten yearsâ ago. He can eat or drink anything he wants and has an active lifestyle.
It is so fortunate that he had that routine colonoscopy.

I remember it being really entertaining to play w/ the button which adjusted the color. You could turn it all the way one way and everything had a yellow cast. If you turned it in the opposite direction, everything looked purple.

If you love stained glass, make an appointment to tour Pawhuskaâs Catholic Church. The windows were made in Germany over 100 yearsâ ago. Some of the windows depict members of the Osage tribe interacting with missionaries. The church had to get special permission from the Vatican to include the windows w/ members of the Osage tribes, since stained glass windows in Catholic Churches are supposed to depict scenes from the Bible or the lives of Saints.

Iâve been reading a lot of classics lately. I just finished Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh. I loved the book. It was way ahead of itâs time. To my modern mind, there was no doubt that the main character was having a homosexual affair at the beginning of the book. After I finished the book, I read a little about it and was surprised to learn that when it was released in 1945, it was a matter of much debate whether the relationship at the beginning of the book was sexual or strictly platonic.
This week Iâm back to contemporary novels. Iâm reading Free Love by Tessa Hadley. Itâs set in London in the 1960s. The main character, a 40-year-old housewife and mother of two leaves her husband and family and begins an affair w/ her friendâs twenty something son. Itâs one of those books where you donât like any of the characters, but itâs well written, so Iâll stick it out.

Naturally, the coverage is focusing on the impact of Putinâs actions on Ukrainian citizens, and not European citizens in general, but any American who has paid attention to the news at all in the last week understands how Putinâs actions in Ukraine could have far reaching consequences in Europe and elsewhere in the world. I was talking about the board. I don't watch US news (obviously since I don't live in America ). I see. I almost never post on or read the political threads, so I did jump to the conclusion that you were talking about non-Europeans in general. I just wanted to assure you (for what my opinion is worth) that people in general are deeply concerned about what is happening in Ukraine and how that will effect the lives of ordinary Ukrainians and all Europeans. Honestly, it makes me sad to think that Ukrainians or other Europeans might be thinking that the rest of the world doesnât care or think about them. I know that is probably the least of their concern right now, but it still makes me sad. I just wish I had the power to do something more than care right now.

Thanks for the thread and the worry expressed for the minorty EuroPeas. I feel like the discussion has mostly been "Putin this, Putin that, our forces" and fuck the civilians, what civilians? so far. It's kind of easy to remain detached when you don't live on a continent that has been the theatre of the bulk of wars. We're just depressing entertainment far, far away. I certainly canât speak for all Americans, but Iâve been glued to the news for the last 24 hours and I would say at least 50% of the coverage has focused on ordinary Ukrainians. I find it very depressing and not at all entertaining. I think the coverage has been respectful and the Ukrainians who have been interviewed seem anxious to share their stories with the world. Iâm in awe of how composed most of them are. If nothing else, Americans have seen so many maps on the news recently that even those of us who arenât very good at geography understand exactly where Ukraine is located and why that area is so strategically important.

I have never heard of sending a thank you note to people who simply attend a funeral.
I think enclosing a picture of the flowers received is a nice touch if the sender is from out of town. If the sender is from the area, and had a chance to see the flowers, I wouldnât bother sending a picture.

My husband got a cancer diagnosis when he went in for a routine colonoscopy. The doctor pulled us into a little office and gave us the news immediately after the colonoscopy. He was very kind, but direct.
Having the news delivered in person didnât soften the blow at all. Itâs cancer, after all.
If I were your friend, I would definitely want to hear the news by the fastest means possible, so I could process things and think about what questions I needed to ask at the appointment on Monday.

I think Billie Jean King has done more to advance womenâs sports than anyone. During the 60s-70s she was at the top of her game and also fighting for the passage of Title 9.

I think it all depends on the circumstances.
If we were planning a big family dinner to celebrate a 50th anniversary and there was a young couple who I knew wanted to go and couldnât afford it, Iâd happily offer to pay their share.
However, if the entire family was vacationing at Disney, for example, and one family member tried to organize a group meal, at one of the more expensive restaurants and one couple opted out, I wouldnât bug them about it. I think a lot of times when people say âI canât afford somethingâ they really mean âthat is not how I want to spend my money.â I donât think people should be pressured to spend money on activities they donât really want to just because someone in the group wants them to.
ETA: I just read your post w/ the additional info. I think the photography session sounds like it will be a disaster. I would cancel it.

The pictures where the toilet lid is up make me a little crazy. I always think "was the photographer too lazy to go over and close it, or does the photographer pay so little attention to detail it wasn't noticed or does the photographer just not care?"

As Iâve mentioned before , Zac Taylorâs mom is my sorority sister, so Iâm cheering for the Bengals! There was a wonderful article in New York Post about Zacâs younger sister Kathryn, who has Downs and has won many medals for swimming in the Special Olympics. I texted their mom and said âPoor Zac, he coaches a team in the Super Bowl and he still gets upstaged by his younger sister!â Zac Taylor and his sister

I wouldn't let a total stranger babysit my kids.
I also wouldn't let my teenage son or daughter go babysit at a perfect stranger's house.
It's not safe for either party.

My NPR station has fund drives but I don't think I've ever heard a radiothon. Same here. I usually listen to something else during the week they are having the fund drive. I get that they have to raise money, but I get really tired of hearing âBob V. just gave $25 and challenges everyone who likes to bowl to do the same.â

Our afternoon news show has some lady who comes on w/ the all the news personalities and cooks very elementary recipes which they all the personalities ooh and aah over. She does things like "elevating" a boxed macaroni and cheese recipe by adding a cut up tomato.
I love to watch professional chefs cook and I think amateur cooks can learn so much from them, but now every celebrity who has mastered the art of boiling water thinks they need to have a cooking show. I don't think that Julia Child would ever make it on tv these days.

I'm not sure how you want to go up Pike's Peak, but last April the train wasn't running because they were replacing all the track and equipment for the first time in over 100 years. (My nephew oversaw the program and I am very proud of him). The train is up and running again and it runs all year.

I'm not watching the Olympics this time, mostly because it is being held in China.
Today I happened to be in a public building and I watched a tiny bit of a ski jumping event on the television in the lobby. The arena was built in the middle of what looked to be a big industrial park. Most of the ground surrounding the ski jumping venue was covered by concrete and there was not a snowflake in sight.
I know there was a lot of buzz about how they were using all manmade snow for this Olympics. I also know they have used manmade snow in past Olympics. However, it seems like in all the past Olympics the event venues at least looked like places where snow might fall and people might go skiing. I thought the ski jump venue in the middle of the concrete jungle looked like a scene out of dystopian novel.

I will never watch that show again. I couldnât get past Monica receiving a letter from Jerry and saying something like âwell he said he wanted to be a motivational speaker when he got out of prison and other people have done that, so . . . .â
I wonder what Monicaâs reaction would have been if her precious children had been abused and she found out their abuser wanted to be a motivational speaker?
I know she was close to Jerry and I could have understood if she had refused to talk about him at all. However, she not only chose to talk about him but she also chose to share w/ the world his dream of becoming a motivational speaker. I donât remember her ever expressing any concern for his victims or condemning his actions. I donât understand that at all. Maybe it was selective editing, but it made me never want to watch the show again.
