I was named after both of my grandmothers. My parents couldn’t agree on a name, and so my dad sent flowers to my and and to me (in the nursery?), with a card that had my name on it. My middle name is Maxine. I know a couple of you have mentioned you got lucky not getting stuck with it. And my younger self would agree. When kids at school would find out my middle it, it was awful. BUT my entire family (on both sides) have always called me Max, Maxie or Maxine....... and my dad always said I was definitely his mother (Freida Maxine), who passed before I was born.
Both of my sons were adopted as pre-schoolers, so their first names Are their birth names. DS1’s middle name is after my ex and my uncle. DS2’s middle name is after a dear friend.

That’s what we use! In fact, paper goods are my specialty!!! We get the heavy duty ones. My mom and aunts decided after grandma died, that they wanted to be part of the gathering, rather than doing dishes afterward. Works out great!

We looked to see if it would be doable to do that, but logistics and work schedules don’t make it possible. Fortunately my brother works close to downtown where the stop is, so he’s taking a couple of hours off to go down and see it...... for me of course.

The 4014 Big Boy just pulled into our metro area about 7:30 tonight. It’s here over night. It will still be here part of the day tomorrow- can’t remember exact times. I wanted to go so bad, but I just had hip surgery and have a huge brace and crutches, which don’t make for navigating crowds. My brother, has oh so generously offered to go downtown and shoot pics tomorrow. He makes so many “sacrifices “ for me! Not!! Haha

My grandma use to lather the bottom of my feet with Vicks, put heavy socks on me and put my feet under blankets. It works and I still do it now. Somehow it works!

I’ve tried Dior and loved how it went on, but had an awful time with it smudging. My niece says Younique products (MLM) and I was in a pinch when out of town, so I used her’s. I ended up really liking it! I’m not much on purchasing from an MLM, but I make the exception with this. But would love to have options, so I’ll be following! Just don’t want any that smudge!

When I had my first pregnancy, about 8 wks along, I started bleeding. Went to my primary dr (1989), who told me to go home and if I was still bleeding on Monday, come back and he’d “clean me out”......... THAT got me into the OB the next day and I went on to carry for 3 more weeks before I miscarried. I never went back to him for so much as a sore throat. This summer I started having issues w/being peri- menopausal........ she immediately started ordering tests. A short time later, I was having a hysterectomy. It makes me so sad/mad that women’s healthcare is still not taken seriously by some doctors.

I just started Culturelle yesterday. I’m 4 wks post hysterectomy and still not having regular “movements”. I really need to do more research and compare it to Align.

I can’t imagine anyone eating more than 1 cupcake. And mini cheesecakes- maybe 2 per person? That’s simply based on a few events I’ve helped host. It’s always so hard to determine!!! Good luck!

You’ve got lots of good advise/perspectives. There’s not right or wrong way to grieve. It has been 13 months since I lost my dad. My heart shattered that day. It changed me- some for the good, some I’m not sure as I’m questioning lots in my life. I’ve done grief counseling, now I’m doing regular therapy. I also meet with 4 friends who lost a parent during the same year. Right now we are discussing if we are adapting or adjusting to life w/o our parents. Sending you good thoughts and healing prayers.

What a generous and humanistic act on your part. Hopefully you have some peace about something good coming out of something bad.

Does his department have a Peer Support team? If so, if there is someone he trusts on the team, encourage him to reach out. Please remember it isn’t just what he saw. It’s what he heard (her screams/moans), smelled (an awful smell) and taste. He may flinch at burnt meat, the smell of burnt meat, any movies w/someone burning or with fire. Be gentle with him, encourage him but don’t force him to talk. Be aware of what is going on around him- at home, to sort of protect him. As an LEO wife, and civilian peer support team member at my dept, thank you for being aware and caring about your DH. God Bless him.

I’ve had a hard time sleeping for several years thanks to Fibromyalgia, stress and poor sleep habits. This last year, my doctor convinced me to have a sleep study done. I can’t remember how many times I quit breathing in an hour but it was enough to scare the crap out of me, throw my vanity out the window and get a CPAP. It doesn’t help w/going to sleep or staying asleep, but when I DO sleep, it’s a much better quality of sleep. Might be something for others to consider looking into.
