He was a horrible father and husband. He punched one of his sons teeth out, and shot at him later. He was physically abusive to Farrah.
He was charming though, most forgave him. Not a loss.

I am willing to bet the Twitter guy was told over and over, but still says he feels blindsided. He just didn't want to do the work. Maybe - or Maybe not... I hope the younger generation of men don't just assume that housework/children are just magically taken care of, but many many men are raised that way. It isn't even a thought to them to automatically do household chores. They never saw their dad do much (when not asked) and it just never crosses their mind. They they are blindsided when they get dumped because of it. "Jason needs to bring Jason's jeans" ... If you are a fan of the Kelce brothers and watch their New Heights podcast, you will get that. Jason didn't bring his jeans to a documentary preview, and ended up wearing shorts and flip flops. He thought his wife would do it for him. His brother Travis pointed out that Jason's wife had a lot on her hands with 3 kids to get ready etc., and told him "Jason needs to bring Jason's jeans" .. and he (Jason) had a visible revelation and agreed that he was responsible for himself and how much work his wife did with the kids. THAT is what reaches and teaches men. Seeing a big burley football player go .. "Oh, shit, what a turd I am" .... I really think the younger generations of men are realizing what needs to be done. My husband would never even think to do things around the house, if I didn't ask him. He will ask me if there is anything he can help with when we are having a party or gathering, but other than that - nothing processes. I have some knee issues, and it's hard for me to carry laundry up 3 flights of stairs, so I just leave a couple baskets at the bottom, and when he walks by them now - he grabs them and takes them up for me, no questions. But we have a different dynamic than many people do now. He does the absolute majority of the farm/ranch labor. I do the absolute majority of the household labor. I do not work outside the home/ranch. I do not get frustrated that he can walk around a mess, because I am not hauling manure or breaking water for cows when it is -14º. I don't pick up his "mess", in general. It is usually stacks of papers when he is ordering crop and livestock inputs. I just tell him, it needs to be gone before Christmas Eve. LOL But I taught all my kids, male and female, that the work load needs to be even. If both partners work outside the house, both partners work INSIDE the house. That is how they live their lives.

I didn't even know they still did tux and drapes. In fact, I never heard of it until I lived in Tennessee where they did it (in the 80s). When I moved to Missouri, no one even heard of tux/drapes. We just used our senior picture that the school set up.. Josten's or whoever. It wasn't a thing yet to do independent pictures. I was always kinda sad that I moved and didn't get to do the drape thing. Those pics always looked so grown up. lol I haven't seen those types of Senior pictures in years. Everyone does their own thing now. But I had mine taken in a drape. It was funny because one of my sisters is 18 years older than me, and I came along a lot later than everyone else - but all our Senior pictures match! We all used the exact same photographer and same drape, I'm sure! But the pictures on my Mom's wall of us all matched, even though the first was taken in 1965 and the last was 1983!

Santa always brought gifts late on Christmas Eve, so when they got up they were there.
We celebrate with our extended family here and open gifts on Christmas Eve, so there was a gap between opening presents and Santa's presents the next morning. I don't remember when I stopped Santa gifts, it just kind of tapered off.
I am not doing stockings this year. I will have some lottery tickets and that's it. No one wants more "Stuff", even though I have tried to get useful things like pens, Bombas socks and other consumables. But it's just too much anymore. I don't have the time or the will to go shop for it, it's getting to be SO expensive to get all that, and I was stuck with wrapping all that crap. They enjoyed it, but they all said it was ok to stop. "Less stress - more fun" is my motto this year.
My kids scatter on Christmas day now, to go to their spouse/significant others Christmas celebrations. So it's pretty quite, and I am good with that! Christmas Eve is our big day.

Back in the day, we basically only had a yearbook to "see" our classmates again, but now with social media that doesn't really matter anymore. This! I think what was important in the past has changed greatly with the advent of social media, and who knows what it will be 20 years down the road. Passing around yearbooks and having everyone write something in them was a really big part of senior year for me. (My yearbook, and the same for my kids) didn't even arrive until summer was nearly over and everyone had scattered. No one ever signed yearbooks. I actually had a 'memories' book, that was basically a scrapbook. I added photos and trinkets to it. That is what everyone signed. None of my kids did any of this. They text each other! LOL In our yearbooks, if your Senior portrait wasn't submitted, they just used your Junior year photo that the school photographer took. You could check and see if they do that - then at least she will be in there.

I am getting some super bright solar lights for mine. The kind that you can aim - more of a spot light type. We live out in the country though - no street lights, so completley dark at night.

Lol no joke... we dont even have a mailbox... we have to go to the post office No mail delivery at all? Are you way out of town on a big piece of property or something? I have never thought about how places like that would get their mail. I grew up in a small town of under 1000 population. You went "uptown" to get your mail at the post office. Everyone in town had a combination mail box. I loved walking uptown to get the mail. I even have our old mailbox. When they changed out boxes to keyed ones, I got our old one! The only way you got mail delivered to your house, was if you happened to live on the street the mailman took, to go out of town to do the rural routes. I live on a rural route now and have mail delivered to my box at the end of my lane.

This mid-west girl is thinking a different pork tenderloin.. dang it.. Pork tenderloin sandwiches are hard to come by if you don't live near Iowa/Missouri/ish states... sorry to derail. My mind always wonders to the deep fried Iowa Pork Tenderloin sandwiches too. Yummy! LOL I am not a native, so the first time I saw one, I said, "Oh, schnitzel!" That, of course was met with stares. LOL And also, most of the time, the Iowa Pork Tenderloin sandwich is made pork loin, that has been tenderized, but usually not from the tenderloin. I am amazed at how many think the tenderloin and the loin are one and the same. Nope! The garlic encrusted one, in the sous vide, sounds divine! What a great idea to package them up that way and have them ready to go! I usually season my tenderloin well, then braid bacon around it and smoke it. Mmmm...mm.mm. That does not sound at all post gall bladder surgery friendly though. I wonder if just a simple light seasoning, then sous vide cooked would be the best option right away. Nice and lean meat, might be a little bland, but would still have some good flavor.

iowgirl Tell me more about the frozen peanut butter cookie pu The ones I am using right now are from a fundraiser. The company that makes them in an Iowa company, so I don't know how far they sell them - but they are THE BEST frozen cookie pucks. Wooden Spoon Cookie doughBut my local small town grocery store has bags of frozen cookie pucks in a lot of flavors. I think they are Rich's brand. They are pretty good ... factoring in how easy they are to make! LOL

Will you be going to all the parks? Or just certain ones? Soarin' is one of my favorites! You are in a 'hang glider'. It moves slightly, up and down - but no big drops or anything. The screen in front of you makes you feel like you are flying. Between the movement of the hang glider, winds, and scents - it really feels almost like you are soaring above the scenery. There are 3 big gliders, and you sit in your seat. You do buckle in, but the movements are gentle. It is an IMAX 180º screen. It is in Epcot Soarin' over California

I’ll second (or third?) the Ghirardelli brownie mix. Costco sells it in a 6 pack and they’re literally the best brownies ever, so why hassle with scratch? I think they work out best in a 7”x11” pan but that’s an odd size that not many people have. I always bake mine in cupcake size. I use the parchment tulip papers. I can still get 12 out of a box, but they are smaller, but that's usually OK. If I want a bigger/taller brownie, I cut it down to 9 or 10, but I have to watch the bake time. I love having brownies this way, and the tulip parchment papers peel easy and look nice. I just let totally cool, then store in a tupperware or a gallon zip bag. Once the brownies have been in the container for a short time, that parchement paper peels right off with very little residue left. So handy to serve that way too! I hear what you’re saying on the butter, but I use Costco butter all the time and haven’t had any issues with it at all, so maybe that’s regional? If you look on the inside wrapper it shows the plant number where it was manufactured down on one corner and people in some of my other baking groups noticed that a lot of different brands of butter all come from the same plant. That's an interesting thought! I know I like to stick with a certain dairy for my milk, sour cream, chip dip, etc. - but they don't make butter. AE Dairy, they have THE best chip dips! LOL And THE best chocolate milk in the land. I really wish they made butter.

So many things are doing this!
I noticed the Betty Crocker brownie mix shrunk down years ago. I switched to Ghirardelli. Not that it is a bigger size, but they are so much better.
I make Caramel corn with Puff Corn - love the Chester's Puff Corn. It used to be $2/bag. Then I noticed the size got smaller, and messed up my ratio of popcorn, since i was just dumping in a bag, not measuring the amount. Now the price is $2.69 and still smaller. Geeze.
Also - if you use butter in baking and things are not turning out right - they are adding more water to the butter sticks. Costco and other store brands are the worst. So far, for me, LandOLakes is still working and others say KerryGold is good. You pay for it though!
Crisco changed a while back. I think it was to do with saturated fats, etc. But it is more watery or something. It doesn't work in recipes like it used to.

ECONOMY turn around (10-14 days) is in the range of $700-$3900 with MOST jobs falling in the TOP half of that price range. They will call me with a firm price once they get the drive. What in the ever-loving-hell! I swear Apple thinks they are gold. No way should it cost that much! I would try an independent tech to see what they can recover. If your hard drive isn't toast, it shouldn't be that difficult! If it is toast - well.. it's toast. I have removed hard drives from my PC's and recovering data was pretty simple. Your advice to backup is spot on though! It's something I try to keep done, but it is easy to slip on it. Thanks for the reminder!

A big tote works good for mixing big batches. I don't make a super huge batch, because I am not packing it up for gifts. I mostly make caramel corn, using Puff Corn (SO GOOD). Good butter matters in this. Don't use Costco or other store brands. Too much water in them. I use LandOLakes, but i know a lot of people swear by KerryGold. Puff Corn Caramel Corn. I also have a mix that is white chocolate drizzled over a pretzel/cereal mix. You add M&M's and make some super cute Santa hats by dipping Bugles into red melting wafers. I use a dehydrated marshmallow for the white pom top on the hat. Much cuter than a mini regular marshmallow. I use Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers for the white chocolate. They taste great. Sometimes you can find the dehydrated mini marshmallows in the Hot Chocolate area of stores this time of year. I just order mine from Amazon. I reseal them with a food saver to keep them longer. Santa Hat party mix.

FWIW - you can do the "frame TV" on a regular flatscreen too, for a lot less $$. 55" LG is $350. 55" Samsung Frame is $1100.00 You can either just put your pictures on a USB stick and plug that into your TV if you want your own personal photos. Some TV's have a frame mode that you can upload a photo or photos and have them be your screensaver. I also like just going to YouTube and picking some art to play/display. Right now I am doing Christmas stuff. There are just tons of selections. Some have music, some don't I have You Tube premium, so not adds, but if you use free youtube, you might have an add play every so often. But some really pretty stuff! Here is what I am playing on my LG big flat screen now: YouTube Christmas Art for TV's.

There are some great deals now, but I don't want a fridge that only lasts 5-10 years. Good luck with that! LOL Because of all the tech and how they are made and being energy efficient, fridges do not last long. This seems wrong to me. Wouldn't it be more efficient, in the long run, if we were not replacing them every 5 to 10 years and filling our landfills and using up more stuff to make them? I've been wanting pellet ice, but don't really want to deal with machine for that. I love my nugget ice maker. I keep mine in the basement and transfer the ice to the deep freeze as it makes it. That is not without some work though! The ice is really wet as it accumulates in the machine, so I use a heavy duty salad spinner to remove as much water as I can, then I bag it and deep freeze it. I got one of my kids a smaller version nugget ice maker and she keeps it on her kitchen counter and just bags the extra ice sometimes and puts it in the refrigerator freezer - since that doesn't freeze as hard, she says you can easily 'bang' the bag on the counter to break it up more. I absolutely love my nugget ice maker! It does require some maitenance. I am a bit of a clean freak, so I sanitize mine often with a bleach solution and also de-scale. I wasn't de-scaling and that came back to bite me, but i got it going again.

Oddly enough though, he never plays with other dogs and has never been to a dog park. We have about an acre, all fenced and no dogs come in so I am very confident that he has not caught whatever he has from another dog. I was blown away after I learned how many diseases birds can spread with their droppings.

Pre-cooked is OK. Good quality shrimp cooked correctly at home FANTASTIC! I understand the time constraints. Sometimes it is so much easier to just buy them done If you have access to a fish market, I could only imagine they would be top notch. I only have Walmart and a Grocery chain, and their shrimp are limp and rubbery, especially the ones that come arranged as a Shrimp Cocktail platter. Oh... avoid those at all cost! Blech. The come frozen, and if they have them out - they have been defrosted and have been frozen at one time... I think that contributes to their condition. The pre-cooked ones in the seafood counter on ice are quite a bit better than the pre-made cocktail platter.

It does. It depends on the variety, on how fast or how bad it will be. And it can also depend on how hydrated the evergreen was. If it has been particularly dry in your area, it can have an effect on it. If you want to make an arrangement, you can buy a block of floral foam and soak it. Put it in a container that does not leak and do your arrangement into the floral foam. Then put that into a decorative container if needed. If you are doing a wreath or garland, I would soak the cut greens very well in a large tub for a day or so, then shake out and let dry a little before crafting into the garland or wreath.

I believe it's a good idea to be prepared yourself, and to not expect help, or at least not help right away, in the event of a disaster.
I recently bought a small supply of dried meals. Not super prepper crazy, but enough to go for over a week and it has a long shelf life. I do have canned and dried foods normally as a part of my pantry. Since I don't live in a town, I normally keep groceries to last no less than a week. I could easily go for many weeks without shopping for anything other than fresh milk and fresh veggies, but the meal plan might be a bit weird. LOL. I do keep a little bit of powdered milk on hand.
We usually have at least 300 gallons of gasohol in a barrel at our house, and usually 500 gallons of road diesel. Probably closer to 500 gallons of both gasohol and red diesel on the farm.
We have a solar panel setup that we can use to pump water if needed. We use that in pastures that do not have any electricity available. It is portable and we move to to wherever we have cows pastured, so we could always pump water, even in the event that tractors could not start.
We have 4 PTO generators that can run our farm and houses. These are BIG generators that are hooked to the PTO shaft of a tractor. All our sites are generator ready - just pull the switch so there is no backfeed and plug in the generator at the pole. We also have a couple smaller sized Honda gas generators that we use if the weather doesn't allow our solar setup to charge.
I have basic first aid, although I would like to beef that up a little better if I can.
We could survive a very long time, if something really terrible ever happened, by hunting, trapping, fishing and foraging, if needed. I am not super prepper crazy. We don't have a bunker. But if it came down to that - we could survive and defend.

snyder … I used to have a terrible time with hard-boiled eggs, too. My son bought me something like this: boiled egg cookerand it really makes the whole process easy. And most of the time, the shell slips right off. Interesting. Basically a steamer. Maybe I should have put my eggs in the Rice Cooker/Steamer. lol
I'll have to think about this. Cabinets are full of stuff I don't use all that often, but sure are handy when you need them.
I used to steam them in my Ninja multi-pot before I got the egg cooker, and that worked well, too. I know what you mean about too many small appliances, but this one IS small, and I wouldn’t want to give it up. This thing gets used a lot. My boys like hard boiled eggs. I was coming in to recommend this same egg steamer! I didn't have many issues with making hard boiled eggs in a pan of boiling water, and scoffed at all the "tricks" and devices to make hard boiled eggs - until I got this tiny little egg steamer. IT IS THE BEST!
I can't recommend it enough, and it is small. It comes with a little plastic cup to measure the water you need. I think it does up to 7 eggs at a time. Put the eggs in the rack, add the correct measurement of water, twist the lid and and plug in/turn on. As soon as the water has evaporated, it starts playing a chime. I take the eggs out by grabbing the rack they are in and plunging them in an ice/water bath in a large bowl. Chill a bit in there and the shells slip right off. I make a lot more hard boiled eggs now, because it is so simple and easy and they turn out perfect every time. If you follow the correct measurement of water and plunge them in ice bath right as they are done - you never get the grey coating on the yolks either. 10/10 - it is worth the small price and the small space it takes up!

Over 30 years ago I ordered Hunter Douglas blinds from an ad in Country Living... that was BI - Before Internet. LOL I looked at blinds at a furniture store and priced them. Then I priced them at the place from the ad. It's been so many years, but it seems like it was something like Discount Blinds. The price was SO much less, and I had about 20 custom size blinds needed.
They are still going strong!
My two girls have recently ordered blinds online and have great luck with them. My oldest ordered some for her kitchen and ended up hating the color. They told her to keep them and sent her a new color (she could only do this once). They are very high quality shades that they have now.
