Love the Fifty Nifty states song! My sister's class sang that in elementary school and I would watch the VHS recording over and over so I could learn the song myself. I loved it when my oldest son sang it in elementary school (pretty sure I freaked him out because I knew it too). We live in Iowa, but are still connected to Nebraska because of family & football--DS even yelled out "Nebraska" at the end of the song instead of Iowa!

My go-to is Method Sweet Water. I don't like a lot of heavily scented products so this works great for me. I use the gel in the kitchen and the foam in the bathroom. I used to get the Pink Grapefruit gel for the kitchen (loved that!) but it's been discontinued.

Our district puts those in school lunches when classes need to-go lunches for something like a field trip or if school is suddenly cut short & they still need to provide a lunch. My boys like them, but I'm too cheap to buy them because we always have bread/PB/Jelly on hand. However, I would keep some on hand for my youngest's school lunch, but his private school doesn't allow nuts of any kind.

My son's trip to Germany/Austria/Switzerland in March (fingers crossed--even though it's not my trip I'm still excited for him to go on it).
My sister's wedding in Colorado in July.
Getting to enjoy holidays without the stress of delivering flowers for my neighbor.
Watching my son play a full season of high school baseball (not just 6 doubleheaders like this year...but he got to play so I can't complain...too much...)

Both boys are going back on their normal starting date--the Wednesday after the (scheduled) end of the Iowa State Fair (that was cancelled), August 26th this year. DS12 will start back in school from day 1. DS15 will be virtual 4 out of 5 days, but could realistically be virtual for all of the 5 days depending on how they divide up the classes. They normally do 7 classes, but are splitting the semester into 2 terms with 3-4 classes per term. With at least 5 of his 7 classes already being announced as 100% virtual he might not leave the house during one of the terms (we're not sure what one of his classes is because of scheduling issues, but is likely to be virtual too--the other class is band and we're really not sure how that will work since the high schools are doing one grade level per day...and band is all 4 grades together...) If he does get to go to school for a class he won't actually go until September 1st because his grade will go on Tuesdays. 0

I'm trying not to sign up for the travel class because the only trips I haven't scrapped are 2 DisneyWorld trips (in 1980 & 1989 with pictures I scanned from my parents) and several Washington DC pictures (8th grade trip and then lots of pictures from when DH lived there in 1997 & 1998). But I'm also needing to stay with my current everyday pictures instead of going back to old trips. However, I do like the idea of Laura's trip highlight album...

My mom remarried and moved into his house when I was a couple of months into my freshman year of college so I lost my house and my room. However, I had at least 6 different rooms over 3 different houses from the time I was born and moved into the dorms so it wasn't the worst thing. And honestly, I felt more at home in my Mom's house during my college years (and beyond) than my Dad's house...and I lived in that house from age 4-12.

My DS12 going back to school like normal--small private school and they are starting full time on their scheduled start date.
Maybe getting to do something resembling a vacation...
Being able to make plans/schedules without having to wait for official announcements--waiting to see if DS15's district will allow football or marching band, both of which take up the 3 weeks of August before school starts.
Seeing extended family...
Listening to Cubs baseball games and watching Husker football games...

We are usually with family in Nebraska around the 4th--we shoot off all kinds there because it's legal. This year we are staying home in Iowa. We can buy all of the fireworks we want anywhere in the state, but in our city it's illegal to use them. Of course that doesn't stop most people, especially as the years go by (they were legalized for selling only a couple of years ago, but a lot of metro cities promptly banned their use...but still have to allow them to be sold...) We probably won't shoot any off because our neighborhood has too many big trees to make them worthwhile (and because we're a stickler for the rules some days...and I can see our neighbor reporting us to the cops because she's mad at me!)

I had a (commercially) fresh salsa in a plastic container start to go bad one time--I think it started to ferment and the change in pressure popped the lid open a little and all I could smell every time I opened the fridge was a garlic smell.

My store added 4, maybe 6 in the last year, but there's still at least a dozen normal checkout lanes. I shop once a week and my cart is full, so no I don't want to scan & bag my own groceries. I have no problem helping to bag my groceries (because then I group things as I want them to be...and I know not to place the gallons of milk on top of the bag with the eggs or bread...). However, I have yet to see a set up that would work for the amount of groceries I have each week. I don't mind the self check outs if I only have a couple of items.

Vent #1--I'm headed to an orthodontics appointment with my 15yo in a few minutes because his 12 year molar never came in (it's there, but has barely broken through the gums). His teeth are straight and great otherwise, but now we might be looking at extensive dental work...although in my mind I can't see how it might be necessary...
Vent #2--We've been waiting for an appointment with a psychiatrist for our 12yo's ADHD issues (he didn't gain any weight between his physical and his 6 month weight check so his pediatrician won't up his meds, but he needs something different because he was getting worse about getting schoolwork done). The appointment was made in late February for 6/26 and we found out a week before the appointment that it would be virtual...how the heck can you evaluate someone over a freakin' cell phone... BUT wait, there's more! The Monday before the appointment I get a call that the provider won't be in the office on Friday and we need to reschedule...WTF??? Thankfully we only have to wait until the 10th, but seriously? really?
Vent #3--I've hit a Covid brick wall this week...done, sick of it, ready for normal life again...

Iowa just announced yesterday that schools won't be required to make everyone wear masks and social distance, but then today there are people reporting that our district will require masks (but nothing official from the district). I wouldn't be surprised considering one of the district's requirements in allowing the high schools to play baseball & softball this summer is that that everyone must wear a mask unless actively playing on the field--so players in the dugouts, coaches, and yes the spectators too.
If I had to guess, based on what's going on right now, I'd say we'll at least start in person this year (might feel different in a couple of weeks...). Our district has done quite a few surveys so they are at least planning and preparing.
I haven't heard anything from my youngest son's private school. They didn't miss a beat with continuing lessons in March because 4 of the 9 grades already had Chromebooks. They can maybe spread everyone out if they change the art room to a classroom, but they might not have enough teachers (they keep 5/6th grades and 7/8th grades together for most of the classes because there's only 10-14 kids in a grade.)

Our 20th anniversary was spent in the same place as it was several years prior--at our Little League fields! DH was coaching one son and I was walking back and forth watching that game & our other son's game.
Our anniversary hasn't been a big deal since we had kids because one was born 5/12, ours is 5/16 and so when you throw Mother's Day in the mix it's a lot.
I don't expect much for our 25th either because we'll be a couple of weeks away from our oldest son's high school graduation...

If they had their own car and both had a license I would say drive because then they'd have their own car while visiting. The drive wouldn't be too bad between two people (we've done Iowa to DC several times), but for one driver it's a lot.
I would say find a nonstop flight to as close to you in MO as possible and take the new precautions (masks, wipe down everything, etc.)

Anyone else mildly annoyed by the fact that Simple Stories used a different number 2 for '12' in that Thickers set? My brain is confused. That is weird--and after seeing the "12" I think I don't like the other 2s. They look more like a weird J at times.

Some of it depends on the album, but for the most part my journaling comes from my point of view. If it's a layout for one of my boys (that will go in their individual album) I write to them "You had fund..." and often interject my feelings and opinions. For layouts that go in the family album I still write from my view, but write to anyone who might be reading "The boys had fun...we had fun...". My biggest struggle is when I'm journaling for something outside of the boys' individual albums because I go back and forth between saying John or Dad when writing about DH. Most of the time my journaling is past tense, but there are a few exceptions when the theme/story works better in the present tense.

I bought a pair of trail running shoes from LLBean a few years ago, but I can't remember what brand they are (and they are in my van). I love them for trail running and now for trail walking. I don't like wearing them on pavement so I don't wear them very often.

No official announcements from any of the local districts yet--several colleges and universities have announced they will start early, skip fall break and finish by Thanksgiving.
Our district sent out a survey asking about technology & internet access needs, and also attendance plans (want to go back or stay home, can do split days without issue, etc.). They then sent another link out for a technology survey that seemed to be from the state.

Eggs Butter Milk Chips Maple Syrup Mayo Coffee
They have really good prices on some of the veggies we like, but the quantities are almost too big some times.
Flour--I got a bag 25lb bag of bread flour for DH that cost barely twice as much as a 5lb bag at the grocery store.
Best deal ever is the scan & go in the app...no waiting in line to check out!

It was just released in the mini-catalog that goes along with Sale-a-bration. Products in that catalog are officially only available from January to end of May, but sometimes they carry items over to the new annual catalog in June. That bee set was one that my demonstrator was surprised to not being carried over (same with some of the manly sets in past years that are more versatile than ones they do carry over). Apparently they didn't expect it to be so popular--there was some matching paper that was a free gift that sold out early on, it was the only free gift that I was interested in. Since it didn't carry over I would guess some demonstrators might be looking to sell their set, but it still might be hard to find because so many people liked it.

Nope--I'm too cheap to pay the extra costs and usually what I want isn't too far away so it's just easier to go pick it up. If there was a very good reason why we couldn't drive to get food I might consider it.

Left front--probably because the counter on the right is very small and has some things on it so by using the left front I have more room for ingredients waiting to be added. Other reason is that it's bigger than the front right so I often use a skillet on the left and saucepan on the right if I'm making something with pasta.

I really miss the SC scrapbook kit--I liked the pattern paper (most of the time...) because it was so different from what every mainstream line offers. It got me to stretch myself out of my comfort zone. Every time a kit post like this pops up I look at the different offerings and decide that they are not worthwhile to me because there's so much pink/flowers/girlie stuff.
I've gotten a lot of the Not Just for Boys kits since they debuted last year. I wish they had more exclusives (especially paper) but it's not not having to search out boyish supplies. It's too bad they weren't around 10 years ago when my boys were 2 & 5 because some of the kits have been perfect for that age. However, I'm happy they are here now and will happily support a kit club that isn't predominately pink/flowers/girlie.

We have a wide range of mask use for our family of 4. We all have to have one for church when we are not seated in our seats.
DH has some that he keeps on hand for running errands and now for wearing while not in his office at work.
I have a couple in my purse for running errands & in a couple of weeks for wearing during DS15's baseball games (ugh).
DS15 has several because he has to wear one during baseball practice & will have to wear one when not actively playing in a game (ugh).
DS12 only has one mask because he rarely goes anywhere where he needs one. So far just church and a few medical appointments.
