I've heard of cinnamon rolls and chili, but I have zero interest in trying it. Chili is one of my top five favorite foods, and only cornbread is acceptable to eat with it. Saltines can be used if there is absolutely no chance of obtaining cornbread.
I don't think I've heard of pb sandwiches and chili. That might work, but I prefer pb sandwiches with chicken noodle soup.

Sorry to disagree with some of you, but the last thing the party of diversity needs is an old white guy a the top of the ticket. If it were any other election with any other person in the incumbent's seat, I'd agree with you, but what is paramount is to do whatever it takes to beat Trump. And that is gonna take an old white guy, IMO.

Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio is reportedly considering a run and I would vote for him wholeheartedly. He would be a great candidate to run against Trump...he's got the credentials of working to represent the blue-collar "little people" and he is a deeply compassionate and intelligent guy with a lot of government experience. He's also a late-middle-aged white guy, and I think that's who it will take to beat Trump, unfortunately, wonderful as it would be to have a woman president or another person of color.
ETA: I also like Tim Kaine very much.

My parents are recently deceased. I am one of the youngest siblings, but shared my parents’ care for their last several years with my sister (so, several brothers either out of town or disinterested). And work we did, including going though/inventorying house contents. But when my oldest brother called and gave advice? Man, it was like the word.of.God. He didn’t misuse the power, and often gave advice at our prodding because we all understood the power of the Crown Prince, so we were all complicit, but I TOTALLY understand how birth order and gender can affect this whole dynamic. I would also suspect that your brother is being influenced by his wife. Nothing wrong with that, but it does rankle when the out-of-town, non-involved advice is based in the experiences of another family. The most important thing to do now is parse out when your dad truly wants, not what he may (or may not) have been convinced he wants. Good luck. Let us know. Oh, that Crown Prince thing made me laugh...it was JUST LIKE THAT in my mom's family. She and my aunt lived near my grandparents, did so much for them, but when they needed to convince Grandpa of anything, the phone call had to come from my oldest uncle, clear across the country. My uncle could do no wrong in Grandpa and Grandma's eyes. OP, I'll just echo that you need to talk to your dad with an open mind and really try to set aside your hurt feelings and find out the truth of what he wants and what your brother has suggested. Is it possible that your brother is aware of what a sacrifice you have made and is trying to help your dad find another way that works better? And maybe start thinking about other ways you can nurture your caretaking spirit in the coming years.

I read Transcription by Kate Atkinson. I was really not impressed. There were a few funny or droll lines, but overall it was a dull story.
And I read Sleep No More by P. D. James, a collection of six of her short stories. It was just okay, which is how I feel about every P. D. James book I've ever read. People rave about her, but I just don't see it. Anyway, I was in the mood for some British mystery stories, and it sort of fit the bill.
I am just skimming the Cole Porter bio I started last week because it's also dull. Not much reading joy this past week!

There are several things that rub me the wrong way about Rachel Hollis, but I'm willing to admit that most of them are my own personal peeves. What I find hard to excuse in her, however, is the way she's sold her soul to the MLM industry. Just in the past few months she's spoken at conferences for Rodan and Fields, Lularoe, and several others. Paparazzi convention is upcoming. Her spiel feeds right into the manipulation and mind control the CEOs of these direct sales companies exercise over their consultants/retailers.

My 14-year-old niece is interested in calligraphy and I thought I might get her some pens and paper for Christmas. I had a fountain pen set when I was her age, but I found it frustrating to use. Anybody know of any pens that would appeal to a teen? She loves pens in general, so any non-calligraphy suggestions are also appreciated.

My 14-year-old niece is interested in calligraphy and I thought I might get her some pens and paper. Are there any tools like that that have a high "teen-approved" factor? I remember having an actual fountain pen set with different barrels of ink when I was a kid...not sure if she'd like something that complex.

I read Island of the Mad by Laurie King. It's the latest (#15) in her Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series. They've been pretty meh for years, but I keep trying. This one was a solid three stars. Cole Porter was a character in the book, and I got interested in learning more about him, so I got a bio from the library and I'm just getting started on that.

That is a ton of crap that you're both dealing with. Whining is warranted! I hope it helps to vent here, everyone cares about you. I'm really sorry that you're having to put your recovery on hold for your husband's treatment. I always pray for you both when you update, though I don't always comment. Big hugs to you.

Well, in light of this, should I come on here and act like an ass, please assume that my account has been hacked by French teenagers. We will, of course, have to contact the Altoona police to verify that story...be forewarned.

I cant believe you asked this jeremysgirl because I was just thinking last night I needed to come here and ask. I'm in the beginning stages of thinking about a kitchen remodel, and I was wondering if I should have the disposal reinstalled when we put in a new sink. I don't seem to use it as often as I used to, and it gets mildewy and stinky way too often, even when I run cleaner or lemons through it. Unfortunately, this thread doesn't seem to be decisive. I think the main thing that would be a pain about NOT having one would be when I need to throw away a large quantity of something liquidy, as when I had to toss out a batch of lentil soup that got left on the counter for hours. I don't really want to put that in the garbage can, and it was so simple to just run it all down the disposal. But those problems don't arise too often, I guess.

We don't have one. We keep the doors and downstairs windows locked and I feel quite safe with that level of security. (We don't own guns, either.)

My husband and I lived just a few blocks from that synagogue when we lived in Squirrel Hill as newlyweds. It's such a vibrant neighborhood. I feel heartbroken.

I don't have a lot of corn popping experience, but I was looking at a silicone bowl for microwave popping on Amazon a few weeks ago, and once I had put that in my cart, I started looking for popcorn to pop, and the reviews on the different brands available were certainly interesting. It does seem that different varieties pop differently, and not all popcorn is the same. I imagine freshness also makes a difference. I wonder if the stuff you're using is stale? (NVM, I saw you bought new kernels the second time.)
I ended up buying a bag of Dutchman's white popcorn and it popped nicely in the silicone popping bowl.
This is certainly the most times I've ever typed the word "pop" in one post. Lol.

I read Almost Everything: Notes on Hope by Anne Lamott. It was short and somewhat regurgitated from previous books, but she has such compassion and humor that I did indeed find some hope in her writing.

My parents read to me a ton until I was about four years old and learned to read to myself. I don't remember them reading to me after that but I'm sure they--and I--read to my younger siblings, too.
My third grade teacher read to the class a lot. She read us The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and I just loved it.
I adored reading to my nieces and nephews when they were little. My youngest niece, Marissa, would sit still for incredibly long periods of time when she was just two, and pay total attention to what you were reading to her. At thirteen, she's still a voracious reader.

After years of hearing raves here about those Kohl's throws, I got two of them last fall and we used the crap out of them all winter. They're super thick and soft. I was very impressed!

Someone mentioned above that his brother told him not to come to Switzerland?? I missed that update, that is awful.
Nevertheless, it's time for him to go, and Switzerland it is, right? Would there be any way to pay for one of his friends to fly there with him? (With his money, of course.)
I'm so sorry this is dragging on. I think it will help to set a non-negotiable leave-by date and focus everything you ave on getting him out the door and on a plane by then. Make sure he knows this WILL happen. Stand over him while he sets up his AirBnB, his plane tickets, whatever else he needs.
That's all I got. I'm sure it's more complicated than what we can understand, but you must get your own life back, whatever it takes. He may cry and get angry, but that's on him, not on you.

Don't forget about Burning Feather's famous Italian Beef! This is the recipe I have, not sure if it's hers or something similar. It's...amazing.
1 envelope dry onion soup mix 1 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. red pepper flakes 1 tsp. basil 1 tsp. dried parsley 1 large garlic clove, minced 3/4 cup water 3 pound rump or chuck roast
Combine spices and water and pour over roast in crockpot. Cook on high all day or until meat is tender. Shred meat and let simmer for another 10-15 minutes and serve on soft Italian rolls with steak sauce, horseradish sauce, hot peppers and/or giardinera.
