I don’t know how labour intensive it would be, but what about removing the black glass and putting a cane insert in? I believe cane comes in rolls, and you could stain it to match the cabinets. While I definitely think this could be a very interesting look (good idea for sure) when you are traveling, stuff moves around inside the cabinets. I'd be afraid it's not strong enough to hold back the items inside and then would end up being punched out from the stuff inside. Ugh you’re right, I didn’t think of that. Can you tell I’m not a camper?

Twenty years ago, when I worked in finance, I had a client who was transitioning (male to female). We did a name change on all her records when her ID was updated. It was interesting…definitely not spoken about as openly as it is now. There was a trans woman who worked in a bookstore I shopped at. We had many discussions about which scented candles I should buy.
To my knowledge, that’s it.

We have tons of rabbits, skunks, coyotes, deer and porcupines. My friend had a moose peeking in her living room window this summer. I live in a city of about 1 million people but our street is on a ravine that heads down to the river so we have lots of wildlife.

I think the dryer is super hard on clothes. I hang most of our stuff to dry, and I feel like it lasts a lot longer and looks better too. I’ll throw stuff in the dryer for a minute or two to get the wrinkles out and then shake it out and hang it on a drying rack.
It’s a bit more work…especially with little toddler clothes. Thinking back to how much laundry there was when my daughter was little, I’d hang dry the cuter stuff and put the rest in the dryer. Turning clothes inside out helps as well, but also makes for more work.

When we vacationed at a villa in Italy a few years ago, the dryer took forever (2-3 hours) to dry a load of clothes. I remember it having a reservoir that would fill with water as your clothes dried and I’d have to empty the water a couple times as the load dried. It was weird, and a pain in the ass, but I remember being really happy to have laundry facilities!

Oh wanted to add that we also have stamped concrete. I love that but the builder did the color AFTER the stamping, and it is wearing off and a pain. If I did it again, I would have the color mixed in with the concrete and then stamped. I agree with this. Where I live, many people have stamped concrete driveways that have to have the colour reapplied every couple years. I’m sure harsh winters and shovelling snow don’t help. Our sidewalks are uncoloured stamped concrete and they’ve held up very well. We have an areas of stamped concrete and areas of pavers in our back yard. I prefer the look of pavers but they are more work in terms of weeding, etc.

Our public transit is not safe. In the 18 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never used it. For a smallish city of one million people, it seems we have a disproportionate amount of violence and drug use affecting our transit systems. You could not pay me to take a bus or a train in my city. And I’m thankful that my suburb has no bus service.

If you have Hulu, I accidentally (but happy I did) ran across a great show. "The Jewel Thief". Don't get thrown by the title. It's a true story of a guy that at a young age began his life of crime. It is told by him and the investigators who tried to catch him for a long time. This guy is way beyond smart and it is fascinating how he gets away with things. Think "Catch Me If You Can" but in real life. I highly recommend it. Although the guy is a lifelong criminal I found him fascinating. Imagine what good things he could have done with that brain of his! MOVIE INFO The firsthand account of Gerald Blanchard, one of the most creative, calculating and accomplished criminal masterminds in modern history. Just FYI, Catch Me If You Can is based on the true story of Frank Abagnale!

I have a friend whose family treats her like an ATM. She and her husband earn 7 figures annually and they pay for soooooo much for their extended families. There are cultural issues at play as well…they are expected to provide financial support. I can’t tell you how many kids they pay tuition for, how many people they pay rent for, how many designer bags and cars and laptops they dole out. It’s unreal, I really have a hard time wrapping my head around it. In addition, she’s a doctor, so they all come to her for medical advice and ethically she feels like she can’t say no.

If we don’t know, we ask if there are any things we need to exclude, either for dietary restrictions or just personal preference. We have “foodie” friends who like everything, and other friends who may not like certain items. I don’t present the menu in advance for anyone’s approval.

Ok I guess this thread applies to me 😬 I’m 52, almost 53. My period has been very irregular for about 1 1/2 years. It shows up every 2-3 months. Sometimes it’s a crime scene and extremely painful, other times it’s light and I hardly notice it. I’ve not had a single hot flash or night sweat. No sleep disturbances or brain fog. Not really any bitchier than usual 🤣. What I am really noticing is JOINT PAIN. Particularly knees, hips and elbows. I’m reasonably active and walk about 45 minutes a day with my dog. Is anyone else experiencing joint pain? I haven’t been to the doctor about it yet.

lucyg wishing nothing but the best for you! I just did my first FIT test, which is a screening tool for colon cancer which is an alternative to a colonoscopy for those deemed lower risk, without a family history of colon cancer. Mortifying, yes, but it beats the alternative.

I'm so surprised how many people said they sleep apart when one of them is sick. I've never even considered that! For me I want to be right next to the person in case they need anything (water, help to the bathroom, etc) and I want the same back if I'm sick. I just don't think I would sleep very well if I knew my husband was sick and I was in a different room, I would worry too much. Really? We sleep apart when we are sick because neither of us wants to infect the other! Plus, I don’t sleep well when I’m sick and if I toss and turn or I’m awake reading or watching something I don’t want to wake my husband. I definitely don’t need him holding my hair back if I’m puking either.

My back yard is super shady so I don’t have practical advice but I love the look of sun sails. If I had a pergola I’d probably grow climbing vines on it to make it seem more functional.

My go-to when I don’t want to drink is bitters and soda. It’s not sweet, next to no calories, it’s refreshing, and a no brainer to make.

We write cheques to move money from our holding company account to our personal accounts. It’s a quarterly transaction, too large for ATM withdrawal or etransfer and there’s not really an easier way to do it.

At the private school my daughter attended, it was totally frowned upon to pull your kids out of class for vacations. This was explicitly communicated to parents. They were generous with holiday time…we got a week in November and a ski break in February in addition to spring break and the usual long weekends.
Her school was so academically focused and the pace was fast, so missing class time could have a significant impact. Of course, there were always parents trying to convince everyone that a week in Disney world was educational 🤣

There’s a house down the street from me that has been featured in a design magazine that has a similar treatment in the (young) son’s bedroom. I think it’s kinda cool but I think it’s something you’d easily get tired of.
