i have been painting my nails weekly since middle school and toes once a month. I don't wear flip flops so don't need major slothing of my feet. Never worn my nails sans polish all these years, it's really not much effort. I only go to the salon for a gel for vacation. Whatever fancy mask the salon has you can buy somewhere online. I'm addicted to my weekly facial mask. No offense, Annabella, but I'm willing to bet that I have painted my nails and toes far more often than you have. As I said in my earlier post (did you read the other posts?) it's not that I *can't* paint my toes or nails, it's that it's nice to have someone else do it for me. The same thing with a facial. I have plenty of masks at my home, easily over 30 different types. Good, professional-strength brands, some costing as much as $70 apiece. I do masks/peels at home at least once a week, and sometimes 2-3 times a week. No matter how much time/energy/money I spend on my at-home beauty regime (and I spend a lot of all three of those things) it's not nearly as relaxing and rewarding as my facials. And I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to the one I have scheduled tomorrow. BTW: Do you ever eat out? Because you know you could buy all those ingredients in the grocery store and make your own food... Wow, did I miss something? This reply sounds tremendously condescending toward anyone who prefers to do at - home beauty stuff.

There are plenty of people in the US who can sing our national anthem correctly, without embellishments, "high" notes and all. They're just not famous. Many of them are under the age of twelve.Personally I blame cuts in music education for the fact that many Americans can't sing our national anthem. It's really not that hard, and the "high" notes aren't that high. But if no one asked you to sing it at the age of eight or so, before you started thinking that you couldn't possibly sing it, then your adult self is going to be unlikely to try it. I've heard the anthem sung beautifully and correctly by children, teens and adults at various sporting events. It's only when they bring in some celebrity to do it that it gets all messed up. /choirteacherrant Couldn't agree more, Merge. One of my most favorite performances of the Star Spangled Banner is by Billy Gilman. When he was 12 years old. While I've never heard of Billy Gilman until now, in this video I think he also tried 'making it his own' at several points. Not as bad as others have done, but still.

We have had this anti-virus software less than a month and I'm about to pull my hair out. The customer service is deplorable. Can anyone please tell me how to unblock sites from Parental Controls? I haven't specified any sites to block because I couldn't figure out how and now my kids are coming to me saying they are blocked from things. I didn't block anything to begin with! And for the life of me I can't figure out where to go in Bitdefender Central to unblock things. I just don't get how this program is set up and all their pop ups about Bit Wallet and Bit Ransom....oh my gosh, my patience . . . Thank you for any help you can provide. Anything will be more help than what Bitdefender offers which is days later and a copy/paste canned response that doesn't address the problem at all. Thank You for allowing my vent too. Erin

I am a Democrat but I am watching. Call me crazy but I really want the best candidate on both sides so that we have a shot at a good president, no matter who wins. The voice of reason. The woman on the left in the front row looks like Alice from The Brady Bunch. Carry on!
This seems like the best way, teachers and parents working together It seems like too often it's us against them from both sides
This is what the secretary included in her email. That she hopes she doesn't see a divide of us vs. Them. Up until the emails yesterday I had no idea teacher involvement was an issue. Now lack of our patent involvement.....that is a hill I'm willing to be wounded on.

For eight years I was involved in our high school's Music Boosters group, four of those years as either President or Vice President. We loved it when the music teachers attended our monthly evening meetings but certainly didn't get bent when they didn't. Usually they didn't attend because they were in the auditorium with the students practicing for a concert... or on a field trip with students to a competition... or visiting the grades schools to promote music... or on the football field practicing with the marching band...
We earned a lot of money and handed the teachers a lot of money to spend ON OUR STUDENTS! You know, our sons and daughter who were benefiting from the concerts, field trips, competitions, marching band.
Sorry OP but your pissy attitude is one of the reasons that after just a couple of meetings, I chose not to involve myself in our elementary school's PTO. 'Worked out best for me though because I discovered the Music Boosters! Again, this is not *my* pissy attitude. The treasurer and secretary, mostly the treasurer, have the attitude which you call pissy. I'm glad you were able to find a group you are happy to be a part of.

I think that the original post is meaning if the goal of the PTA is to help the teachers help the students (which is the common goal between both the parents and the teachers) that in her opinion it would be nice to see that the teachers wanted to see the PTA succeed. I can see how it may be frustrating to the original poster to feel as though she is doing all of this work to help the teachers help the students with not even as much as a verbal thank you for all the work you are putting in from the teachers. (I am not saying that the teachers need to send the PTA a thank you note for everything the PTA does, however, if someone came in and fed a group of people a verbal thank you would be nice and polite.) I *think* this is what my board treasurer and secretary are feeling but it was certainly not as kindly stated.

To answer the OP's question: there has always been a teacher rep at the meetings I've attended.
I've been around good and bad PTAs. Some had the crappy attitude in the OP. Most didn't.
Just to reiterate again, the 'crappy attitude' is not mine. Two members on the board expressed disappointment in teacher participation in group emails to our principal yesterday. I wasn't aware of the feeling until then.

Updated for clarification: I see several responses from posters who think the scenario I describe is how I personally feel. It is not. The treasurer and secretary on the board are the ones expressing to our principal dissatisfaction with teacher involvement.
Thank you for your input. I had a feeling our school and the teachers' role in the PTO was no different than others' and I was correct. Our first public meeting of the year is tonight and I hope the 2 board members in question have a team player attitude.
I am the PTO president for our elementary school. I have a board who is getting very disgruntled at the lack of enthusiasm and meeting attendance from our teachers.
It is rare to see a teacher at our monthly PTO meetings and last week the PTO sponsored a back to school grade level breakfast for parents and teachers. No one on the board was able to share a first hand account of a teacher who thanked, acknowledged, or encouraged PTO participation and what PTO does for the school.
My board feels there is a direct connection to their lack of involvement and parent participation as well.
Last year we moved our fundraiser to doing it in house and were able to double our profits. It seems the teachers have no problem receiving the funds from our work but do little to nothing to be the TEACHER part of the PTO.
Are we the only school with this problem? Do you have any suggestions on how to increase teacher involvement?
Thanks for your input.

What is the difference between a "promise" ring and an engagement ring anyhow? In my mind the difference is age (young vs. Older) and financial status at the time of the ring's purchase (broke vs. Doing alright). LOL

This is a spin off from my thread on what type of diet your body likes.
I am very intrigued with the 21 day fix plan after some said they liked it. Is looking at reviews on Amazon and it seems like people are having trouble with the dvds skipping or being blank or not loading.
Where did you order from and did the dvds cause you trouble?
Thanks!

My body likes the less food diet lol! In all seriousness though, I didn't make any effort to eat less carbs or less protein or anything like that. I just cut portions WAY down and made healthy food choices rather than high sugar/junk foot d choices. Ha ha And how did you go about doing that? Did you start measuring or weighing food?

I need to lose some weight and have been doing lots of research the last several months on the various diets out there (regimented and lots of just philosophies) including clean(er) eating, the new Atkins, 17 day diet, dash diet, paleo, and ones that are whole grain with little meat and lots of veggies, just to name a few.
What diet (not necessarily to lose weight either) does your mind and body feel best on? What do feel is also easiest to maintain while feeding a family? I do already cook gluten free because of DD's celiac disease but i don't currently avoid gluten entirely myself.
Right now I have checked out from the library 17 Day Diet, Smitten Kitchen, Eat What You Love Everyday (recipes low in sugar, fat, calories), 100 Days of Real Food, and The Mayo Clinic Diet.
Basically I'd just love to start a conversation here about eating habits and works for you, your family, your body, and if weight loss comes with it that's a big bonus.

I'm so conflicted....part of me feels (biblically) that marriage should be between a man and woman but I also believe that (legally) everyone should have the right to wed (I know I contradict my own self).
I kind of feel the same way, like, can't everyone win? This very much feeds my people pleasing nature.

The church is a Christian Alliance church that we basically fell upon due to an invite from friends and, being a small town, many other friends of ours attended the as well. So really we arrived and stayed for social reasons. I was feeling guilty not raising or DDs with religion and the invite presented itself. I grew up in a Brethren church, which, ironically, is ok with gay marriage though way more traditional in its presentation than our current church which is very contemporary.
Thank you so all for sharing your experiences and thoughts with me. I am in the midst of carefully considering them all.

We left our church of 25 years three years ago for a variety of reasons, this being one of them. Many of the members are my "friends" on Facebook and between this issue and the Confederate flag one, I am reminded why I left that congregation. It really makes me sad because otherwise I love these people. I know I need to unfriend them on Facebook because it only serves to irritate and sadden me to witness their complete unChristian attitudes. We tried a different church but have ultimately given up on it too. I am currently completely disenchanted with 'organized' religion and really don't think I can ever go back to attending church. I think i am on my own journey, several months along, of figuring out how i feel about organized religion as a whole. The. SCOTUS ruling just blew it up in my face. I grew attending church but only 4 years ago, after a 15 year hiatus, did DH and i start attending together here in our new to us small town. At the time our DDs were 3 and 6. Now they are nearly 7 and 10. I am becoming increasingly unsure if I want to continue on with organized religion. But a lot of our friends attend our church, though it's far from being our main social life. I am just really struggling overall where i am supposed to guide our family and even, 'what do i believe'? Ftr, DH couldn't care less if we attend church or not. He has always been skeptical of organized religion but attends for the girls and me. Like someone mentioned above, the scotus ruling has further caused me to question what i may be exposing my kids to even though my intentions are good. My church is definately not preaching hate but the denomination as a whole and the pastor of my church clearly fall onn the side of the 'Bible says homosexuality is a sin.' The pastor quoted billy graham in Sunday's sermon saying that it is the spirits job to convict, God's job to judge and our job to love. But interwoven in the message was that homosexuality is a sin. And if we leave, then what? What does it look like to teach your kids about God and provide them that when you're not particularly religious yourself?

Has reaffirmed they are anti-gay marriage? Would you keep attending that same church?
I'm struggling with this issue and Facebook isn't helping. Several church members who I am friends with have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the ruling and how it goes against the teachings of the Bible. For me it complicates things by now being able to put a name and face on the situation.
I can elaborate more but that's the beginning of what I'm feeling.
Thanks for any helpful input you can provide me with.

I'm not totally sure of the details but can find out if need... a teacher friend of mine just had surgery because her migraines got so bad. She would have spells of slurred speech and one side of her face would droop. Once at school just a couple months ago she dropped her class off at music and then couldn't remember where she left them a half hour later. It was very scary and it wasn't long after that that a surgery was scheduled because this went way beyond, yet was still related, her migraines. She spent several days in the hospital after surgery and is now recovering at home.

I started by sorting them by shape but the number of categories is getting so big as i take apart more sets. I'm having trouble picturing the unit they will all be stored in.
Color is starting to seem simpler.
