We were getting our house ready to sell when our 17 yr old dishwasher decided die. Not wanting to put a lot into it and the possibility of a buyer wanting to redo the kitchen anyways, we just went with the lower end Bosch from Lowe's. That dishwasher was AWESOME and I was kicking myself for not getting rid of the crappy GE much earlier so I could have enjoyed the Bosch for longer. I also replaced a GE with the lower end Bosch from Lowe's. It's been absolutely great so far. I have zero regrets about buying it.

As many times as she's worn a coat in warm weather, I've just always assumed she must be cold natured. With larger rooms like those, especially if it's drafty, the coat doesn't surprise me, but a cardigan would be a better choice unless she's actually heading outdoors before she goes back?
The red trees don't bother me, but wouldn't be my first choice either. Most Christmas decorations are pretty to me when they're lit. Slap some twinkling lights on an outhouse and it still looks cute. Lol

I hear ya! Send them a check next time. You'll know they got it when it clears your bank account. Better yet, send them a card and spend the money on yourself. Then you'll know it was enjoyed and appreciated.

We're saying NO to the outdoor lighting that normally takes two days, as well as most of the inside decorations. I pulled a few of my favorite larger pieces out of storage and kept it really simple. This might not be the only year it happens, either!
I'm totally doing my baking. It relaxes me.

Thanks, Leeny. That thing had me not wanting to get our Elf out of the box this year!

We have had two Yule log channels on Dish Satellite for at least a week now! Am I completely nuts, or does the Elf on the shelf move every now and then?

Mine won't eat his french fries without ketchup. He also prefers a dab of Heinz 57 on his ribeye. A1 just isn't his thing I guess.

Oh yes. Angela Walters is the reason I finally started quilting. "A finished quilt is better than a perfect quilt top." Words to live by. Plus, she's got wine and chocolate.

In my husband's family, a Bohemian version of German potato salad must be served at all holidays. I've never had a version like it, but it has bacon and corn syrup in it and must be served warm. It might not sound appealing, but people love it, even people who have never before tried it. Because we host a large multi-family group of "mixed eaters" for the holidays, I'm in charge of vegetarian dishes and my stepdaughters make the potato salad and meaty things. I made sure to ask my mother in law for the recipe though, because it is so important to their family. Are you willing to share the recipe for the potato salad? It sounds amazing. We only do traditional Thanksgiving every other year. The years in between are Steaksgiving years. This year, it's steak, seafood scalloped potatoes, green salad, rolls, sugar cream pie, and a pecan cake roll. Next year, it's cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, 7 layer salad, cranberry sauce, pecan pie, ham or fried turkey, rolls.

Yeah, I'm not going to get too attached to you then. In a couple of years, you'll have moved on from this board, and it'll just be us "bottom feeders" left.

Like you, I feel better when I'm around 1. At 2 or over, my weight balloons and I'm exhausted. Fortunately, my doctor listens and doses me appropriately. I would be very apprehensive about a doctor that treated me the way yours treated you. Definitely find a new doctor.

I just had no idea....this was a complete surprise out of left field when I found this out. Now I have more of an understanding as to why they totally ignored my attempt to reach out to them when we first separated. I thought they were just so upset because I kicked their brother to the curb.
I was trying to get them to be involved in their brothers choices before he made too many bad decisions. Too late for that now though, since they totally blew me off when all of this started. He has been signing up on numerous "adult dating" websites...using his real and complete name!...paying $70.00 a day to access the replies he gets from bogus "sexy ladies that are interested" in him. Having hookers and strippers come to visit him. Becoming increasingly involved with one stripper in particular..an illegal immigrant with two school age children..who always needs money for phones, groceries, a new car, a new apartment and furniture, laptops for the kids, printers, her car gets towed (after getting stopped by cops and having no valid license)and she has to pay to get it out of impound, you name it. He is 63 yo, overweight, confined to riding a scooter and wheelchair with ED. Does he seriously think a 20 something stripper is committed to him? He is already over 8,000.00 in debt and he's only been out of the house since mid August. He went through $10,000 in a month and had to borrow from me until he got another equity payment from me in September. He doesn't know how to pay his credit card online, so had me do it and I can see its maxed out at nearly 9,000.00 already. He can't pay it off, and he is funneling so much money to his stripper that he cannot commit to paying his share of our daughter's college tuition and living expenses. I tried reaching out to each of them so I could warn them where he was heading...but they would not even talk to me. Oh well...they will have to be the ones he goes begging from when he is broke. I'll just be sitting back going "told ya!" And all because we opted out of the Christmas gift exchange! Hahahaha! Sorry....had the urge to vent a little...lol No longer your monkeys, OR your circus. The best thing about having an ex-husband is that they aren't there with shit like this anymore. You are missing out on the good part of divorce by continuing to be concerned with his baggage.

Oh, and we just bought a new washing machine as well, and it has a steam function. You can put things like lined jackets and tailored pants in there to freshen them up, and they don't need to be ironed. That sounds pretty fancy! I hate spending the money on new household appliances but then I love to use the new functions when I do get them. I toss in a clean, very damp bath cloth in my inexpensive clothes dryer and put it on the touch-up cycle. Works very well and only takes a few minutes. I also do this if I miss taking clothes out of the dryer before they wrinkle.

My ex-husband used to call me fat ass at least once a week. It's one of the many reasons that he's my EX-husband. I was nowhere near overweight at that time, but it did such a number on my self-esteem that I developed severe anxiety and wouldn't even wear shorts, sleeveless tops, or a swimsuit for about 20 years.
My current husband is awesome, loving, and supportive. He calls me pretty every time I dress up and we go out. Heck, he does it sometimes on days when we are outside sweating and working in the yard. He honestly doesn't care what I weigh. It's made a huge difference in how I feel about myself.
Whether you are up or down 50 pounds, you gotta rock what you got. Wearing clothes that make you feel pretty, having a haircut you love, taking time with your makeup, or even a pretty pair of shoes can absolutely make a big difference in how you carry yourself, and it really shows. Love YOU. Love the you that you are today. Don't wait to do great things for the you that you hope to be tomorrow. She's the same woman.
I am guessing that Dr. Laura gives advice to Gwyneth Paltrow. It would explain so much...

It amazes me daily just how much utter horseshit one can get away with just because they have money. If she were poor, somebody would have had her committed already.

Cutting ties (not subjecting your family to him) NEEDS to be an option for the health of your family. At least until they get him the help he needs. Exactly. OP, can you name one other person you would stand by and allow to repeatedly kick your children in the crotch? Bully them and call them names? And then go out and buy a gift for? No doubt your nephew needs help. But showing your own children that someone should get a pass on that behavior towards them just because they are family certainly doesn't set a good example for them in the future. Your nephew's behavior is nothing short of abusive towards your sons. If you don't expect a stranger to get away with it, why would you let family?

Hell yes, it would. If money or lack of it didn't affect happiness, you would see rich people giving all of theirs away. Never have I seen someone volunteer to be without money if they had it. Will it fix all problems? Nope. But it certainly has the power to make a lot of them easier to live with.

Nope, never used one either. I don't know why cake needs a hole in the middle. So that when you drizzle it with a glaze, it can pool in the center, form a slight crust, and provide general yumminess on three of the four sides of the cake. Yes, I have a couple of them, including the mini ones.
