I've been home since Thanksgiving, as I became bedridden then. We've been SIP for so long that I'm no longer bedridden, given myself a bang CUT, not a trim, they were down to my top lip; given my dh 2 haircuts, and started on projects that were in the "it'll get done on the 12th of never" pile. I've crocheted an afghan (my first) and starting on a second. I think I have watched every nature show ever filmed and many movie series. We started the James Bond series, but couldn't get through the early ones, the acting was so bad, lol. I discovered there is a 5th Jurassic Park movie I've never seen or knew existed, so we'll watch that tomorrow.

We had to pay last year so didn't have direct deposit info for refund, but they had it because they withdrew from the bank. I went on to IRS.gov, clicked on get my payment, filled out the info and added my direct deposit info, and we had a deposit in 3 days.

I make walnut and coffee cake. joelise do you have a tried and tested recipe that you’d be willing to share please? All the coffee cake recipes I’ve tried aren’t very ‘coffee tasting’ They're not supposed to taste like coffee. They are called that because they go well with coffee.

We use the Costco Kirkland brand, it works for our budget and it's not that single ply crap. My dad buys that stuff. I don't see how it really saves any money, you have to use twice as much to do the job properly!

My dh is a teacher and he is doing more work now than when he was in the classroom. He is sometimes still on the computer until well after dinner doing lesson plans, answering emails, etc. He still did lesson plans and all before, but he has a very active classroom teaching Spanish with competitions, games and other physical class participation. He now has to switch to total lecture type teaching and has to plan differently. He also has office hours every day where he has to be at his computer between certain hours in case any student needs extra help. It is most definitely NOT an extra 6 weeks of vacation. Half the parents don't even make sure their kids are in class every day. THEY are the ones treating it like vacation. Their kid doesn't show up to class, so they come crying to him the day before the test and he has to teach the whole thing over again. He doesn't even mind though, I get more miffed about it than he does haha! He definitely does prefer teaching in a classroom though. Can he do this? My ds teachers are recording their class sessions and emails it to the students. Whoever doesn’t attend needs to watch. And everybody needs to take and submit notes. This is 9th grade. Yes, he does record the lessons, too. They only started doing it recently though. They just got thrown into this and were expected to pick it all up on Monday after quarantine on Friday. Half the problem was the school didn't take the time to educate the students about zoom, so they were thrown into it not knowiing how, too.

F*$k them and f$*k that. I am working my ass off. I have had to change lessons on the fly, I have to record lessons for kids that can't make the zoom. Reading a chapter takes me 20 minutes and then half the time there is some damn technology issue and I have to do it again. I had to learn multiple new platforms and utilize them. I spend hours every day responding to emails. I am in more meetings than I can count. I check emails and answer questions all hours. The line between work and home is very blurry right now. Last night, I was on the phone with a parent at 8 pm. As a sped teacher I am in over my head with all the paperwork. In fact, I am taking a break from it right now. I was on a zoom class with students from 12:15 to 1:45. They showed up early (it was scheduled at 1) and so I started early and just talked to them and checked in with with for 1.5 hours. I've done multiple zoom meetings for hours a day helping my students. And all that is from a high school teacher who had great students and good report with them, set routines, and self-sufficient students. I imagine it is worse at the lower grade levels when they can't just pop on a zoom or do the things that we did in class routinely. AND MY YOUNGEST CHILD IS 15!!!! I can't imagine if my children weren't self-sufficient. As it is, they do need my help from time to time (and the other is 18). These poor teachers juggling parent, teacher, staff member, wife... holy crap! So anybody that wants to call me or 90% of the teaching force lazy can shove it right up their ass and f*^k off. 100% agree. My dh is experiencing all of this. My dd is a hs English teacher. She has 120 students. She said on average 4 kids a day log in. They don’t care if it’s mandatory. Some kids have never logged in or done a single assignment. They and their parents are not responding to emails or phone calls. They act as if it’s optional. She did say their office hours were assigned by the school. Some days hers start at 9 and some days 11. The same kids get on no matter what time they are. She’s been filming TikTok’s for them in her apartment courtyard. Apparently it’s amusement for her neighbors. Not sure her students are amused. And this.

A few parents have been chatting and its come out that there are some that think if teachers aren't live streaming 6 hours a day, they are lazy. After all, they'd be teaching 6 hours so why not broadcast 6 hours? I've actually been asked to make videos of very basic stuff (already mastered and automatic) to "earn my pay" (think busy work). We are expected to honor the cap of 2:40 of engagement a day , which includes online instructions
Non educator friends see their "lazy" view point.
I'm busier now than ever between planning, recording, correcting, commenting, emailing, tutoring , researching, packing my room, working on final report cards, etc.
The decision to stay home is out of our control. I meet with kids on Zoom, call parents, etc and really over being seen as "lazy" or getting 6 weeks of extra summer. Seriously.

I made chicken and dressing with a side of broccoli last night, we will probably have leftovers tonight with some sugar snap peas if they are still good. I forgot I had them! I love cookbooks! lucyg I had the same reaction to ATK recipes being online. I even emailed them, they said only the current year were free. I ended up getting one of their cookbooks too, that alone should let me have everything online, it was expensive! When we downsized to our condo, I had to get rid of a lot of cookbooks. A lot of books in general had to go. We probably got rid of 1000 books. That was hard!

My mentally ill kid calling me with terrible depression, but refusing to get professional help. Omg, I have the same situation. There is only so much I can do. I have the eyelid twitching thing too. No caffeine here though, so it must be stress. I can't imagine doing this with all my kids at home. Luckily they are all grown and moved out.

I love it when the house smells like bread! I have mostly made my mom's white bread recipe. It has eggs and butter in it and it is to die for! I'll find the recipe in the morning. Please do share your recipe. I too the smell of baking bread. It's one of my favorite things about making it. LOL Mom's White Bread I make four loaves at a time, but you might not want that much, so I'll give ingredients for 1 loaf. 1 3/4 cups warm water 1 pkt yeast 2 T sugar 1/4 c. dry milk powder 1 large egg, room temperature 3 T butter, room temperature 1 1/4 tsp salt 4-5 cups flour or more, depending on humidity Dissolve yeast in water with sugar. Let sit until bubbly or foamy. If you are using instant yeast, you don't need to do this, just add the yeast with the flour. Add milk powder, eggs, butter and salt and 2-3 cups of flour to the yeast and water in a stand mixer (or mix by hand). Stir until well combined. Add another cup of flour and knead using dough hook. Continue adding flour in small amounts until the dough comes away from the sides of the bowl. Let this knead for about 5 minutes. If doing by hand you'll need to knead for 8-10 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic. Prepare a bowl with some oil, and shape your dough into a ball. Put it in the bowl and push it around to coat the sides of the bowl, then flip it over. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until double. Punch down the dough gently and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan and cover with plastic wrap. I spray the top of the dough with Pam so the plastic won't stick. Let rise until it puffs above the rim of the baking pan and is generally double in size. Preheat your oven to 400F while it's rising. Remove the plastic wrap and place in the oven on one of the lower racks for 30-35 minutes. An instant read thermometer should read 195F when done. Enjoy! Edited to add the dry milk powder I forgot to put in the ingredients!

We'll be having the fajitas we didn't have last night, and some sugared strawberries and cream for dessert. Man, I have lost so much stamina since being bedridden for 2 1/2 months! It's good to be walking around again, but geez I get tired so quick now! I don't see many complicated meals in our future...pphhfftt! Like I ever make anything complicated...

I love cranberry/orange together. I used to make a quick bread, but I've never made a yeast bread with those flavors. Those rolls look fantastic. I'm just bummed now that I will have to wait until fall to make them. LOL I always wish you could buy cranberries all year round, and I use them as much as I can when they are available.
Buy extra bags of cranberries in the fall and freeze them. You don't have to do anything to them, just toss them in the freezer as is. It's always nice to have them when you get the craving!

My food isn't really failing, but everyone is tired of what I am cooking (Hey, I am tired of cooking) and so are complaining that they don't like this or that. I am about to go on strike and sneak out of the house and get some food and eat it in the car by myself. I would TOTALLY do that.

Well, I haven't decided yet. I have 3 roasted beets, a chunk of leftover roast beef, 1/2 a cooked potato and a cooked carrot for leftovers. I thought about a hash of sorts, but that's not really floating my boat. I thought I had some goat cheese, but I'll have to search for it. Maybe a salad with beets and goat cheese...my dh doesn't like beets though. We may just end up doing take out, we haven't done that in weeks. My doctor says I can start walking again, short distances!! That will mean more time in the kitchen, which at this point, is a good thing! scrapmaven What's in your ham casserole?

I'm so sorry you are in this situation. As others have said, I would take her home with you through at least the end of the pandemic. I doubt she will be able to live alone again. I don't think they will do knee replacements on someone your mother's age, so she will need a lot of help. I would do my level best to stay away from Dave. His anger over the power of attorney is telling and frankly, a bit scary. Hugs to you.

My daughter, who runs an Amazon store for her company's business is expected to come in, even after she requested to work from home. There are only 5 people in her office, and they could all work from home, but the boss says no. It's like he's afraid they won't work or something if he lets them work from home. Dd is pretty miffed about it, but on the bright side, it's easy for them to social distance.

Food companies are constantly doing this, like we are not gonna notice. I opened a pop-tart today to find it reduced in size. Again. It makes me mad, because usually the price has increased, too.

We will have sauteed beets with butter, steamed broccoli, leftover roast beef with gravy. Leftover Reese's eggs for dessert! My dh has been cleaning the patio and garage for two days and now has a sore throat and lost his voice partially. It's hard to not think immediately that it's covid-19. More likely he's stirred up a lot of dust and has an allergy. The only time he's left the house is to get curbside groceries. He's very tired today and said"I hope I'm not getting sick." I think allergies can make you tired too. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

I'm going to put a beef roast in the crockpot. We will also have au gratin potatoes and I was going to have asparagus, but they were out on my curbside pickup. I'll probably just do peas with onions and bacon instead. Glazed carrots and I will be making a blueberry cheesecake as well. I have some rolls in the freezer, so I will thaw those and warm them up for dinner.
